Hopesfall is the best band ever? awesome end to end...legendary besides hopesfall, may be the best band ever There exists a gang of unknowing fans who seem to magnetically draw towards a specific group of songs on the album. That, in itself, is the geniosity behind the lyricist. In this album he found out how to get more personal, and apparently how to get kids who wanted to slit their wrists to not slit their wrists by listening to music that would make a normal person want to slit their wrists if they couldn't see through the facade. Oh...and another thing, Brand New kicks Taking Back Sunday's ass. All of you are too focused on all the scene politics. It's not about who listens to the music, or if the band smokes pot, or what genre they fall under, or how they dress, or how good they are compared to a similar band. It's about how it SOUNDS and the LYRICS and it makes YOU FEEL. When I first bought Deja Entendu, I was a little apprehensive because all of the songs were a little slow for my liking. But after I read their (amazing) lyrics they became my favorite. I will admit though, that Your Favorite Weapon is a little too pop-ish. Deja Entendu though, defines my life. I don't care about shallow things like if frat boys listen to them or not. I care about the lyrics and they've helped me get through a lot of things. In my eyes Deja Entendu is some of the best music churned out since...well, the beginning of time. You might disagree but that's because you're too worried about looking cool or you're too lazy to learn the lyrics. That's my opinion and that's what these reviews are: opinions. great album, perfect review One of my favorite albums of all time. I wonder how all these comments turn into arguments. Is it just 'cause people can't accept different people or different peoples opinions? Everyone needs to get the fuck over themselves. Latra. i do agree with your opinion of this album being amazing. but you suck at reveiwing, so stop. i am listening to it right now 'the quiet things that no 1 ever know' ^^ "too much pussy emo. listen to old underoath" i prefer this too YFW by so much. This is better by leaps and bounds. Also, what the hell does "too much pussy emo" mean.....grow the fuck up, if you dont like the album either dont comment, or say "i dont like this" and myabe give a reason why, other then your severe hate for "pussy emo" probably because your covering for sever homosexuality... too much pussy emo. listen to old underoath Cool review, but I prefer "Your Favorite Weapon". I dont know how someone couldn't like this album. Although not anything like "Your Favorite Weapon", these guys defenately deserve some props for "Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades". Anyone who can pull off have a song devoted to not haveing sex, with a "Thrice" influenced chorus, (meaning they're better than any other band) has some talent beyond comprehension. I hope that "Brand New" continues in the direction that they are headed with "Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades", whch is right to the top. how do you dumbasses manage to breathe? this album sucks such incredible cock that the whores around the world have none left to support their shitty lives on. oh and to the guy who ripped on the person who put *Delta Sigma Chi" in thier post...thats a sorority, good work yelling at a girl. You know the people who are saying 'since frat boys listen to BN then they suck' obviously a) are in high/middle school b) are more prejudiced then the frat boiy stereotype thier lashing out against c) dont know shit about fraternities. I am a brother in Delta Tau Delta, you know how much of my tuition my daddy pays, zero. I worked my ass off in high school and got myself a scholarship, that coupled with grants and loans that I will be paying off for the next ten years I am putting myself through college. Yes I am in a frat, no the stereotypes are not true at all. We arent these bug dumb jock retards that do nothing but drink and fight. They do not inject us with alcohol while we sleep, we do not drink every waking moment. Hell, one of the brothers here is straightedge (which i think is silly but thats a whole different argument) . We do not fight, we do not pick on people different than us, we are not stupid. When you get to college (if you decide to go) you will get to choose whether or not to go Greek. I made my choice and i stand by it, there is a great sense of brothership throughout the frat and we are leaders in our community, we volunteer and do charitable work, we also have the most kick ass parties on campus (but thats not the point). Anyway, in short, if you got your info on frats from 'Revenge Of The Nerds' then your grossly misinformed Unless you have been living under a rock for the past year and a half, you would have realised that this album is ace! No longer just a collection of upbeat songs pumped with steroids, Brand New are kicking arse with their pensive approach to music. Mmmmm I really liked that review. Saddle creek references made me chuckle... For those who didn't understand the nature of the post, did you miss that he gave the album 4 and a half stars? Love this album ok, i know this is old now, but i was just curious as to what was said when it came out. i find it hilarious how people take shit so personally.if you dont like it, then just say you dont like it. its just a band.its only music. broaden your horizons. maybe its not hardcore, or true punk, whatever. learn to appreciate a different genre. so its not original because it sounds like this or this. what is original then? what band hasnt been inspired by other artists?nothing is " new". everything is a variation of something else. that being said, i think this album is fucking amazing, lyrically and musically. i dont care what category it fits into. its the type of album that you can listen to start to finish, and constantly pick up new phrases and meanings. so what if frat boys and abercrombie girls like it, thank god something can draw attention away from their usual top 40 lives. theres hope for the future! awesome. best line ever: so don't apologize i hope you choke and die... awesome. best line ever: so don't apologize i hope you choke and die... anyone notice that the line "never to see any other way" that is repeated at the end of "a day in the life" by the beatles is said/sung by jesse on the end of "play crack the sky"? just thought that was cool. brand new... thats some good stuff... Bought this cd and never regretted it. thats all I amm gunna say "i just got the album... it's great... much better than the poppier Your Favorite Weapon even though that was really good too... and is it true that the band smokes pot? if it is i have much more respect for them" its sad that someone has to affiliate a style of music with no drug references to drugs. great review... i love pot too so looks like me and brand new have something in common in that case kneel down :) this band fucking blows. the lyrics blow. the singing is horrible. i'd perfer getting my ears fucked than to listen to this.. People who spell it "indy" instead of indie aren't in fraternities, because they don't go to college to the kid two three reviews down.......ahhhhh...shaaadddaaappp.! whats up w/ frat boy hating? jesus, sorry i joined a frat because i realize that 20 guys living in a house together playing music and listening to all varieties of music and getting fucked up is fun. guess i can't listen to indy anymore, only pretentious fucks are allowed, how can someone in a frat be open minded . fuck you. Following Review Was Written By: LBH just in case you'd like to comment. First of all lets not forget that emo is short for emotional, as in emotional music. As I see it any band that has any musical integrity at all should write from the heart with "emotion". If an artist isnt writing with emotion you are probably listening to a spewing of words they had spoonfed to them by their label. Hopefully any of you people who dont like Brand New are actually listening to music that still has emotion in it. If not I feel sorry for you. I dont think emo-punk is the most adequate title for bands like brand new but ill gladly take it for the sole reason that it points out i listen to heartfelt music. This band rules, fuck all of you that say they dont, if u dont like them then why the fuck do u look at the review of their album u dumbfucks, dumbass people looking at reviews of bands that they hate or cant stand get a fucking life bitches This by far is the best album of 2003, in fact this is the best album i have ever listened to, brand new did fade away from there emo roots, they are still emo but they are emo in a way no other band is like they do not talk about a speical girl that left them, they talk about how it feels and they write about things eveyrone can relate too, brand new is by far the most genius band, if you dont belive look at the lyrics to the album if you find anything better please tell me becuz there is nothing better I think this cd is incredible. I love it. I also love bright eyes and I do not see much of a similiarity other then the semi-whininess. But either way I like the way this review was written. She left me - To the reviewer, the label did indeed expect them to release their second CD on Triple Crown, as they were signed to a two album contract with them, as all Triple Crown bands are. The Bright Eyes/pot thing, I don't know where you get your information. All I know is that this is one of my favorite CDs of 2003, and will be a very important album in the lives of these four talented individuals. ya, this is the rest of the score I know its not the end of the year yet... but this IS the best record of 2003, and nothing, nothing will come close, i dont care if kurt cobain rises from the dead himself no one will put out a better record. dont refer to singers by their first name unless you know them. and tbs will blow brand new out of the water any day Just caught them live at warped, and jesse only had an acoustic, which kinda disappointed me, cause they were a rockin' band before (twice as good as tbs). yea i picked up on the coldplay mini-ripoff, but does anybody else think that the breakdown to the final song sounds like r.e.m.? I love this album. After the first spin, I was shocked at how new it sounded, and how different it was, but I was not dissapointed by any means. After listening to it further, I've grown to appreciate and admire it. I truly feel that this album represents a positive new branch in music today, it is original, fresh and amazing, but I will leave this branch nameless, in hopes I won't pin it to any preexisting genre or scheme. This album is aestheticly orgasmic, beautifully written and better than their first by a light year. It is exceptional and chill, I recommend it and stand behind it. Well done Brand New, I hope others can appreciate its complexity as well. Thats just my opinion. oh shut up you big fat fucking baby, here: the album's peachy, and there's the fucking reviewer who's stoned that left a decent review. ya happy now puss? this isn't a chat room. stop flirting or arguing with people who wrote something 17 posts down. this is a place for people to write what they thought about the CD. not what they think about other bands, not whether they agree with someone's opinions....just this CD. I came here to see whether I should buy this or not and i'm already discouraged by the 60% of comments that have nothing to do with the cd whatever, want real music? listen to liz phair's old shit. that'll set you free. It's funny how some people are just so full of hate. Your life must really suck... Constantly whinning how this band sucks, not punk enough, "clones", and all that crap. What makes you better than anyone else? You need to just shut up, and take care YOUR shit. If people like stuff and you dont, it's about taste. What makes your taste in music better than another person. yeah nothing. I hope TBS doesnt switch styles. This CD was really good though. so brand new couldn't take being called second string TBS wannabees huh? this cd is good, but i think you guys agree with whatever is being hyped up at the moment. this is definitly a good CD, but I think it's getting a little of the "Radiohead" hype. People are claiming this as a soundtrack of a new generation, the best CD in the last decade. Come on now, it is without a doubt a great CD, much more mature than their last, but i think everyone is getting a little too crazy of this. Maybe since TBS are back everyone will calm down and come back down to earth haha thanks for the heads up. holy shit, do you like pgmg? that was sarcasm dipshit. I would never want to inflict that kind of pain on someone. pennywise?? oh god, what a fucking poser. Truth hurts doesnt it. Assclown? Seriously that is the best you can come up with? Obviously that education mommy and daddys paying for isnt working so well. Fucking clone. "Stick my finger up my ass and twist?" This is what you come up with? This is your level of creativity? This is why you people cant think for yourselves. Go listen to pennywise. twat Good fucking god. That is exactly why I won't even give this shit the time of day. Anything that a fucking frat boy listens to has to be shit. They are jock clones. They all share the same brain. They are controlled by what mtv tells them to buy. They will go to best buy, check out the "new artist" rack and then go to Abercrombie and Fitch and buy vintage cargo shorts to go along with their white arnets and pucca shell necklace. Tell them to stop moving out to California from the Midwest. We don’t like you. You’re fucking things up. Fuck them, and fuck this. 1) this cd is good This cd is actually pretty good, After a not so good your favorite weapon...too poppy. They kick ass live. VIN THE BASSIST IS THE FUCKING MAN Good fucking god. This cd is the best ever. I hate bands like this..they release their first pop punk/emo/ CD, and BOOM next CD they "experiment". You've been around for what 3 years? What cred do you have? I remeber seeing them live last year, and they were wearing macbeth and looked like "skaters", Now they look like friggin old ass golfers..LAME the amount of passion and genius put into this album is unbelievable this makes me believe that are still bands out there that actually want there music top mean something to them even if this album has progressed lyrically, i'm still uncertain if i can take brand new seriously. i just got the album... it's great... much better than the poppier Your Favorite Weapon even though that was really good too... and is it true that the band smokes pot? if it is i have much more respect for them note to reviewer: what a fucking stoner, stay off the crack... i am impressed. mad proppage to the guys for writing such great songs. this album is worth every penny. Haha. That guy likes Saddle Creek. This scores for you jackoff. Have any of you guys ever had that feeling of wanting to bone a guy? No?...throw this cd on you'll know what Im talking about. i downloaded the mp3s, and this shit has nothing on mr. oberst or any other saddle creek band for that matter. nice attempt, but they fall short on creating something that sounds new or interesting (like so many other pop punk bands) the album is amazing. i loved the first one, but this writer was right, it sounded like many other bands. deja entendu is different from the bands brand new has been compared to. this is way over my expectations. sorry bro, i'm a member of kappa delta rho and i love the new brand new. most of my brothers like it too. there's a pretty good article about this on MTV.com this review is awesome. very well put. put what i was thinking into words. "Everyone keeps saying: "This album is full of Bright Eyes, REM, Coldplay, Eagles..." Why, then, is everyone still calling it original? It really is an awesome album though." this cd is good but it's no bright eyes...the review is also pretty good but scott himself SUCKS Punknews.org has 10 times more cred. than ap.net will ever have. Thats because this site doesn't shill to generic ass emo and the drive thru brand pop punk. Everyone keeps saying: "This album is full of Bright Eyes, REM, Coldplay, Eagles..." Why, then, is everyone still calling it original? It really is an awesome album though. "Doesn't anyone hear the Eagles' Hotel California solo ripoff in Good To Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have To Do Is Die? " several songs on here have parts u think u may have heard on the last album. i think jesse does sound like michael stipe sometimes now also. but if u think u hear parts in some of the songs, go listen to the new alk3. i swear every other song has that 'private eye riff'. but then again, matt skiba doenst know what a c chord is. just check the last alt press interview with him. i'm nto being mean, he really doesnt know hwo to play guitar technically. pretty punk oi oi oi. wow. this album is very good. its also very very different from their debut. like comparing saves the day 'through being cool' to 'stay who u are' but maybe even more of a change. i must say i like the first album better, cuz it was the best in its feild. i find myself hard pressed to think of better pop punk albums than that one. it was like midtown with really good lyrics and better overlapping harmonies.tracks 4 and 5 are amazing. 2 and 3 are also very good, and the closer is rediculous. unfortunately, they are no longer the masters of their genre. pop punk yes. whatever u want to call this, i must say no. its hard for me to put into words what i mean. hopefully u get it. Brand New is fucking Terrible....There singer is the worst thing I have ever heard.....I dunno what the hype is about these guys....but you people will soon come to your senses that Brand New is shitty and it will hit you like a fucking brick in the head Doesn't anyone hear the Eagles' Hotel California solo ripoff in Good To Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have To Do Is Die? The Sug Rios and Cold Play influences can be seen for sure! Good album! www.mycgiserver.com/~sloppybob/tatecore.jpg just curious here... how much is a fuckload after being converted to the metric system? i dont care how cool Absolute punk is. i thought this review was fucking good. yeah soco does kinda sound like 8. that's the one with the chorus 'i will lie awake, and something something the fake for every sec could get or something or other' yea that was specific. nah it kinda sounds like it, if you think about it you can sort of expect the band in the middle of the verse to break into "just jealous cuz we're young and in love!" Decent stuff, but a bit I'd like to point out: It's good because my ears enjoy it. I thought one of the songs towards the end really sounds like REM, oddly enough. This really isn't a highly original CD, but it's just cool because there is so much variety and they show off so many different sounds. They are a very talented band. The only thing I get sick of is the formulaic songs... verse, chorus, verse, chorus, conclusion of some kind. There's about 7 songs that follow that scheme and it does get a little repetitive. Reminds me of Weezer... only without the guitar solo towards the end. i havent read a lot of the comments but does anyone else think that song 8 "me vs elvis vs madonna sound just like soco ? Absolute punk sucks...hardly...they are better than this stupid site...oh by the way, this review is fucking stupid it finally dawned on me today how amazing this album is. second-best of the year so far, just stunning. only took me 12 listens or so. Great review Scott. I agree about the one song sounding like Coldplay. I use AP.net for everything besides the reviews, which i come here for, because there are 400 times more reviews here. But Tate's news is mostly pop-punk shit, thank god he has other staffers that report about good stuff. I don't even pay attention to his featured band. Except when it was Alk3, and now Brand New. They sucked with him too, why don't they just break up? "they are back on warped tour, and bigger, wiser, and stronger than ever...according to them...minus the guitarist" Hey I made the comment about AP.net and the spectrum. I didn't say they cover the whole spectrum, but I am guessing they have some new people reporting news there because I am seeing some stuff regarding hardcore between all the pop-punk news. I come here for the news almost all the time, but I don't think AP.net is TOTAL shit. Plus this site has like 500x more reviews than AP.net. Word. "Haha, Taking Back Sunday won't be taking any notes as they have broken up..." Weh... Weh..... Weh To be honest, the first time I saw AP.net, I thought it was some corporate run website. It was featuring Something Corporate as its band of the month, so I didn't think it was a legitimate website. I don't think I've been back since. deja entendu means already heard as opposed to deja vu which means already seen you stupid fuck Ap.net is fucking stupid. Yellowcard sucks the shit out of my asshole. Oh wow, let's be different and cool, lets have a violin in our pop punk band. What a cheap way to make your band "unique" without actually being any good. ap.net is pretty lame. They only really cover pop-punk, emo and screamo. It is a site for the "trendies" and those into the latest crazes. punknews.org is a heaps better all round site. Also the review section in ap.net is totally crap, they only have 100 or so posts. ap.net is a nice parallel to the music it promotes: it looks pretty, but damn, that's about all there is to it. Please, dont make Kevin Smith movie references if you dont even know what movie its from. Clerks, not Mallrats. "Jason Tate- 909-307-7523" I think a online punk war has officially begun. Which is pretty funny if you think about it, a bunch of sickly pale skinny kids fighting along side disgusting fatasses. The whole incident would probably resort to us discussing whether or not the independant contractors who created the Deathstar deserved to die too(credit: mallrats). Then we would all agree blink 182 and nfg both suck and go we'd head back to our parents basement. I really hope you aren't saying that AbsolutePunk covers the whole spectrum. Concerning AP.net, I saw a link on there one day for Nehemiah. That band rocks, punknews doesn't cover the WHOLE spectrum. Props for the news about Forever Is Forgotten on Thorp, nothing hits the spot like Milwaukee metalcore. Yes that Tate link was pretty funny. that tate link was pretty funny but i'm disappointed cuz the dude is just some random bleached prep. he's like the guy on the school soccer team that you're kind of friends with because he listens to some decent music and could get you laid pretty easily, but otherwise "good friends" is out of question i think what he meant with the "deja entendu? hardly" comment probably has to deal with Brand New's big change - so it hasn't already been heard. ap.net is pretty lame. They only really cover pop-punk, emo and screamo. It is a site for the "trendies" and those into the latest crazes. punknews.org is a heaps better all round site. Also the review section in ap.net is totally crap, they only have 100 or so posts. I don't like ap.net because the webmaster is an elitist prick. Anyone who puts CURSIVE as the "next big thing" is pretty clueless. The pop-ups, "news" items containing unconfirmed rumors, and "recommended products" suck, too. The forums are also a joke. i read somewhere that Jesse saw Deja Entendu on Jeopardy and liked the irony in the meaning or something along those lines hey ap.net is the shit, just cause that guy got an advanced copy and not you dont go whining about it in the reveiw. ok so I just picked this one up after hearing the mp3's...Between this, the new suicide machines, and Boucing souls..what a great day |
