So let's get started by stating the fact that I was completely torn in Rockford, Illinois of all fucking cities. Jimmie's Chicken Shack was playing the block 5 party (an outdoors white-trash fest downtown on State Street) at the exact same time as Rx Bandits at the Pit. What are the odds of this happening in Rockford, Illinois? I was kinda pissed, but based on the fact that i've seen Rx 7 times and JCS once, i had to go see JCS (plus Rx played a much better set at the metro just days before).

Anyways, regardless of two of my favorite bands playing in my hometown at the same time, Jimmie's Chicken Shack tore shit up. Playing to a crowd of over-aged, white-trash, drunkards who apparently knew all the words to their songs, Jimmy HaHa felt obliged to yell "beer" to the audience somewhere around 1000 times. Opening the set, they rocked an old-school funk song, School Bus, from Pushing The Salmonella Envelope. Great way to get the crowd moving.

The concert continued with all the good songs from Pushing and Bring Your Own Stereo, including Do Right (the hit single you might remember from 1999), and also a new song, Ghettoverit. You can find an acoustic version of it somewhere online, but the new version is more of a pop-punk radio-friendly type humorous song. It's good stuff with lyrics like "You can sizuck a dizack and blow."

Throughout the whole set, JCS inserted a bunch of hip-hop beats, rhymes, and life which was fun as hell. A lot of jamming as well, especially during Another Day.

Overall, this was a great show that I never in my wildest dreams would have imagined to go on in Rockford. Nonetheless, it was a lot of fun, and JCS seemed to be having a good time to. Though Jimi HaHa is the only original member (the bassist has been in the band a good while, though, and kicks ass as well) the band is alive and kicking. Here's to their new album.

    I don't really know how much of you care, seeing how musically uneducated you are, but jimmie's chicken shack isn't ska...if anything, they're a reggae/jam band...don't label until you've heard...or just dont label at all...and let me reiterate the fact that though rx is one of my favorite bands ever, i had seen them 7 times already and jcs once...i don't know why i'm defending myself here but i thought i'd clear it up....peace

    These guys are from my neck of the wood, and I say meh. Boring, 311 ripoff. I thought they broke-up. Damn. I'm sure they'll be playing the State Fair in 2 or 3 years.

    These retards are still taking in breath? These guys are proof that God has a sense of humor. I would rather watch American idol in Spanish than watching these mountain dew drinkers. Not only is this not good for my erection, but it just killed it.

    I have to agree with THAT_GUY here...you passed up RX bandits to see jimmy's chicken shack?! now, this might be a local girl talking here (jimmy's chicken shack plays free shows here every other weekend that they're in town) but there's no way I'd see them over RX bandits!

    Ok,I've read the review now,you mean to tell me you passed up the Rx Bandits and 3-4 other bands for this ? Huh ? Why ? Also,what happened to Che,or however you spelled it..He was the best part of the music video "Che's fallen off every stage we've EVER played on" Funny shit.You passed up 4 good bands to see one big shitfest of a throwback band ? I'd only go see em if it was free,on a day where I had NOTHING else to do,and had like 25 friends go so that we could all laugh.

    What Do I Do,I remember that song....I think I might have had the CD.Haha,that's great,I haven't even read the review yet,I just saw that name,and HAD to comment,I mean come on.Hell,I thought they'd broken up like 3 years ago.Kinda like Harvey Danger and that Jimmy Ray dude.Are you Billy Ray ?     I remember 'do right' from like 4 years ago... thats no reason to pass up RXB! i cant wait to hear the new rxb album plus their live set is freakin amazing
