For a while it looked like there was no reason to even listen to punk anymore. Cookie-cutter pop bands diluted airwaves and everyone could relax with an SUV, mocha latte and episode of Survivor or whatever. When this band formed just before the millenium, they sang about broken hearts, friends, drinking and the occasional environmental problem. Several years after their first effort, they return with a revamped sound, fuelled as much by drunken carelessness as it is by left-wing activism. Please login or register to post comments. Why no review of their new record? Why the fuck everyone's talkin' about it being emo or not. I do not give a fuck if it is or not, are you choosing what music you'll listen to by the genre people has given it??? If you like them that's all you've got to think about. Even if it was emo, what then? If you like the music it's fine. Everyone's got a different view of music for one it can be and not for another. Would it be that bad if it was? I may listen to Something Corporate, Dashboard Confessionnal and other emo but I don't think I'm a sucker for that, am I? There's a time for every kind of music I love punk-rock, i listen to emo and by the way Ska's not dead it's not because it's not on tv and radio that it's dead, It doesn't have to be a best seller to be good. What about people who stil listen to Ramones, Bad Religion, The Clash, and Sex Pistols ol' stuff are they sucker because the like that who are you to judge other people's likes? I'm sick of people sayin': " Ohhhh they're an emo band". It's not because they don't play as fast as most of punk-rock bands that they're necessarily emo (and emo is a fuckin' suburb trendy music for unhappy kids who just got dumped by their lover!!! IT'S UNBEARABLE!!!) Sainte Catherines are NOT an emo band... they never was and never will be. Cut the crap... especially to the ones who were into the now dead trendy suburb music that was called ska... ska is dead... let's get into the new trend and we'll be COOL with our dark hair and our tatooed stars... you people didn't understood at all the message of this record. one of the best album in 2003! those guys deserves a lot more recognition. I think it will come soon. i heard rumors of a record deal for their upcoming full length that would make them the new ''cool'' band. I hope it's true. anyone who claims this is an emo band is fucking retarded..that aside, this record is amazing fucking get on dare to care records today.! These guys love Dead Prez as much as I do. They're brutal and cuddly at the same time, like a sheep with rabies. Three guitars, dude!!! Anyway, I like the album... good melodic punk with gravelly vocals and catchy choruses, plus heartfelt political lyrics. I didn't like the production too much at first -- I thought it was a little too raw for their brand of tight, technical punk rock, but it grew on me. You can tell the dudes are not fuckin' rock stars with a little dirt behind the ears in the production department, you know? Not that they sound like Guitar Wolf or anything... I was just expecting total "big rock" production, and it's not really like that. GREAT live. Mont-REAL! Represent! Check out their new split 7`` with fifth hour hero. Out in november on 1234go records! from seattle/gainesville. Their live show kicked butt @ Gilman last time through. I was there for another band and was totally taken by surprise. Wow!! THE SAINTE CATHERINES `` RIDING WITH DEATH `` TOUR 2003 Wtf!! sainte catherines is not emo its nice agressive punk The album fuken rocks...more i litsen 2 it more i fuken luv it very good stuff, kinda makes up for the crumminess of the new lawrence arms cd What bland emo band has 3 fully rocking guitars? I think you were there to see someone else and weren't really paying attention. This is the best album of the summer 2003. This album kick fuckin ass for sure When I saw these guys they were pretty much a bland emo band. I havent heard this cd though, so I wont judge the new sound Great record, awesome guys. I think they're touring the states again so you'll get your chance to check them out in person. if people actually bothered to change the ammount of stars they give with their comments, i wonder what the ratings would be... This album is pretty pretty decent.. Fucking A..!! Buy it at your local wal mart store! Im slowly changing my mind. This is actually pretty good. This album rock too hard fucker Your dum. I meant the election in particular. Most people don't care that Al Gore got jipped. Obviously the entire world takes notice when the United States goes on a bombing spree or when two of the largest buildings in the world are taken out in insanely violent fashion. I'm not as dumb as you'd like to think I am. But I guess that just means that you're a big fan of artful arrogance as well. (You must've missed that joke. The album's called "The Art of Arrogance." I was being arrogant. I guess that is a tough thing to grasp, especially when I point it out one post later, jerkbag. Once again, you folks are just asking for the return of my retarded bit.) (Yes, I said retarded. If you have a problem with it, you're gay.) "Once again angry and dangerous, a slew of bands, upstarts and veterans alike, are enthusiastically revolting against establishment and their work is as vital as that of early punk rock bands like Reagan Youth and The Clash." this is for the guy who asks the reviewer to make a link with how canada is connected to political problems mentioned. what the fuck is wrong with you, do not see how the two are totally related, you seem to think that whatever happens in the u.s doesn't affect the rest of the world, which is exactly the kind of self centered arrogance that has people hating george bush. the world is not owned by the fucking states buddy. everything that they do affects the world. realize this. this is nowhere near as good as you pretend it is. Im disapointed. Buy this album at www. Daretocarerecords. Com By the way, how was that for artful arrogance? "After a stolen presidential election, a war, terrorist attacks, and an apparent American collapse..." ..............besides all the political shenanigans.............this band fuckin rocks! and the french shines through in song titles like "va donc chier" and "La funk c'est toujours winner" Look, I'm as down as the next guy to get some progressive shit started, but, at this point in our world, does it really make sense to argue for the destruction of manufacturing? Aren't there too many damn people in need of things for production to be done any other way? I'm all for some significant wealth redistribution, but you burn down all the factories and a lot of innocent regular people will suffer because they can't get the goods that they need. |
