Bouncing Souls / Tsunami Bomb / Strike Anywherelive in Chicago (2003)Tours Reviewer Rating: User Rating: Contributed by: Minor Threat (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on October 7th 2003
OH MY GOD. This was a tour I had been looking forward to since I heard about it. The two bands I had come to see were both talented int their respective parts of the scene. Obviously, the Bouncing Souls are the most hyped part of this show, but...there's a reason why. THEY'RE THE BOUNCING SOULS. Please login or register to post comments. I too was surprised how many people like Tsunami Bomb, but honestly I didn't think much of them. Don't believe the hype kids. who cares if greg is quite? i like to slamdance in the pit while i'm at shows! oi! oi! i don't know what to say other than that the only good opener was strike anywhere, and that even if they lined up the worst bands in the world to open for the souls, that couldn't have ruined it for me. their set was amazing and like so many people have said, they draw so many different types of fans. greg's not depressed though, he's fine, they've always made fun of him because he's the "i'm the quiet lead singer type." he has his off nights, and they all dabble in quite a bit of everything (from drugs to alcohol to whatever else you can ingest), but that doesn't keep them from kicking so much ass that im still in awe. I tried to book strike anywhere/vision and i was basically told that they were a clear channel band now??? I just saw this show in SF the other night too. I was into most of it. TB isn't as good as they used to be. Its lacks the umph it had when they had the old bass player. I think they sounded wack too. BS sounded great and so did SA. It was a good show. I was just not into TB cause I am a fan from way back. Vision was good too. I thought the crowd sucked at the show. What's up with the Souls? I didn't know that Keith Morris started another band - Strike Anywhere I meant denver, and 10 stars for the guy in strike anywhere's hair. - they guy from right below i went to this show in boulder, and had a few grievances!!! Yeah if you're seeing this on the east coast I'd expect Strike Anywhere to perform after Tsunami Bomb. According to statemedia.com, which lists shows around St. Pete that have been booked by No Clubs, Vision will play first, then T. Bomb, then SA, then the Souls. And that's the way it should be. :P to the guy a few posts below. strike anywhere probably isn't as popular on the west coast than on the east coast. and vice versa for tsunami bomb. when this show comes back east, kids will be going apeshit over s.anywhere. Man, the Give up the Ghost/Hope Conspiracy show was off the fucking chain last night. Pic and review to come, I finally found my fucking chord. Whoot. Vision. Are there any other bands opening up before Strike Anywhere? I have to work on the day of the show, and I'm worried I might miss Strike Anwhere's set. That would totally suck. Personally Ive always disliked the bouncing souls. Its mediocre punk rock. Although I do have to say Kate is Great is an amazing song. So I will give them props for that. Bouncing souls "hits"? I saw this last night in SF. I had no idea how popular Tsunami Bomb was. The kids went apeshit for them, but gave almost no reaction to Vision and Strike Anywhere. I was really impressed by Strike Anywhere. They seemed to be having a great time onstage. BS was fun, as usual. The sound was kind of off all night for all the bands, like the guitars were turned way down and the vocals too loud, but it was still a good show. no, the crowd was terrible for the AFI show the next weekend. but that was to be expected Yeah.. I've always said there isn't a single person out there who hates the Souls. I'm shockingly wrong, it seems.. or, more likely, everyone bitching about them does infact like them and it simply isn't cool to like the Souls anymore. They reach out to soo many people, from kids to adults. Let's not even get into the different groups of kids they pull to their shows, ranging from street punks to kids who just like a rock style of music. to the guy a couple comments below who "speaks for everyone". YOU DON'T SPEAK FOR ME. Next time stick with speaking for yourself, dummy. eh. fuck-heads will be fuck-heads. they've just shifted their attention jesus, where did all of this bouncing souls hating come from? Actually, I did know it's called Folsom Prison Blues... oops... I've never really been to good with song names, I usually just call them song 5 or 2 or whatever the hell number they are on the cd... I love all three bands (I am not very familar with Wanted Dead). Here is my take on the show; Bouncing Souls are classic, so much fun to watch. Tsunami Bomb were good, though I really do miss the old bassist. He moved and put more into the show then the rest of them combined. I argued with a friend that he really was the show, aside from Agent M just being hot up there but what is with the new hair? They are still good though. It was my first time seeing Strike Anywhere. I loved them. I thought it was a great show all around. Ive seen bigwig 10 times in 2 years...yes i live in NJ...but they play chicago more than NJ.... I think I speak for everyone when i say Strike Anywhere kicks both of those bands asses "Whoever said this is a complete idiot. I have trouble believing you've seen the Bouncing Souls twelve times by the way you write. You sound like you have to be about 9, maybe 10 years old at the most. No unless you travel across the country, I don't think the Souls have come to your town 12 times. They've only been together for 15 years and some of that time they weren't touring much. I've seen all three bands before in the past, but nobody tears it up like Strike Anywhere. I'm not really upset that they are actually opening for Tsunami Bomb, but that just means I get to see the best band first. I assume the comment below is from someone from the west coast, i think it's quite believable that someone on the east coast has seen them 12 times One star is, of course, for your review. You're such a fucking moron. What are you, eleven? If not, that's what it sounded like. Jade Tree has it right now, they are using it for the DVD. But when I get it back I'll add you to the list, I already have about 50 gazillion people that want a copy of that fucker. sickoi, Janelle- I can't believe they're playing CBs and Rancid supposedly played there recently (2 days before Viva Le Punk) too...at fist it's like, What's happening? But then you realize CBs is in need of money. So it's all good. To keep it alive, let the money roll in. Sickboi - question: You mentioned Grey Area. What ever happened to that band???? to the guy who posted about the Johnny Cash song, its called "Folsom Prison Blues" not "I shot a Man in Reno" just a little something you boys and girls should know. i really dont know whats so great about the bouncing souls. they have had big opening bands like Andrew WK, Flogging Molly, and Alkaline Trio. but BS sound so generic and boring. Did you just say ZING for yourself saying something ? I know I'm THAT_GUY, but are you "That Guy" ? You know the one I mean....You wear a band's shirt at their concert don't you ? "I was really excited to see this review up, considering that I went to this show, but this review was horrendous. " anonymous below me. strike anywhere started to suck when everybody found about your favorite band a year ago, right? go piss off Strike Anywhere suck now . They were great for a about a year or two, but they just got stale. ITs just uninspired boring garbage now. Everyone that just got into them is jocking them, but they suck now. Plain truth. The souls are great. Its true they lack the energy of years gone past. But Strike Anywhere cant hold a candle to the Souls in their prime. Wow, and the moron had the balls to put a Tsunami Bomb link on there. What a douche. detroit didnt get the plank and pirate ship anybody got any good pics of that cuz that would have been cool to see? Yea you leave with a better feeling after seeing Strike Anywhere. 'Colfax Crack" ? Isn't that a REALLY LONG street in Denver ' Man, I wish I was in Seattle... what a setlist, I'm going to see the Souls in Rochester for the sole hope of hearing Nerds Freaks and Romantics. Hopefully it won't be mostly the same set they've been playing all year... fucken 'ell. this show is coming to toronto but its on a fucken wednesday and im a school boy. FUCK YOU. I fucked up my shoulder at this show, and got sick on the train ride home. I'm just now recovering from them both. One star is, of course, for your review. You're such a fucking moron. What are you, eleven? If not, that's what it sounded like. I was at this show, Strike Anywhere easily had the best set of the night. Wanted Dead pissed me off, and Tsunami Bomb and the Souls could not live up to the sheer presense of SA. No offense, but the Souls had little to no energy on stage and left me cold. saw the souls night one of their nyc record release shows and they were amazing as always. maybe i'm just old but i don't get why everyone on this site goes nuts over strike anywhere. i don't think you can compare them to the souls cause they play two totally different styles of music. and maybe i'm biased cause i've seen the souls a million times since '94 and i'm gettin a little older now (25) but i just don't get saying strike anywhere stole the show. all their songs were so frickin full of punk rock political cliches. they were good, don't get me wrong but they had nothing to say that i haven't already heard a million times before. i'd rather listen to the dead kennedys than those guys any day. sorry. To the guy asking about Vision, and to the guy commenting about Vision, here is the info you need. uhh... that's supposed to say 'fabulous job'. Job, damnit. I saw this show the second night in Seattle, and it absolutely fucking rocked. Strike Anywhere killed, playing every song I wanted to hear. Tsunami Bomb were pretty damn good, with the new bass player doing a fabulous jog. Goddamn he's one happy dude. Bouncing Souls were the best I've ever seen them (that being 8 times, each and every one of them great). Being their second show in as many nights in the same city, they broke out a lot of songs I hadn't seen the play in a while, or even ever, including a cover of HWM's Trusty Chords with their roadie extrordenair (sp?) taking over lead vocals. Other songs I was pleased to hear were Quick Check Girl, Neurotic, Ole! (it seems they never play that anymore...) and, well a lotta other ones, including Greg concluding the set by himself on guitar playing and singing I Shot a Man in Reno by the imortal Johnny Cash. Yeah... Did I mention the crowd absolutely went off? It was one big singalong beginning to end. Complete fucking madness. And as for Greg's onstage personality, he's pretty much always layed back, that's just the way he is. This show however was the one time I've actually seen him go off. Actually screaming out the lyrics, tons of emotion, jumping in and out of the crowd, singing with his arms around audience members, just all around giving it everything he had. Great, great, great. He even lost his voice by the end... by the way, the souls played waaaay more songs than what the reviewer said To the dude who asked for info about Vision, they're not bad. They play fairly generic fast punk, but it's still good. You'd probably get tired of listening to their recording stuff quickly, but I can't wait to see them live. I'm pretty sure they could put on a great set based on what they've recorded. To the guy who said the Soul's drummer, Michael, sucks? Are you fucking brain dead? He smokes, and is easily one of the top 5 drummers out right now. I've seen him fill in for Grey Area and Paint It Black, now that is some crazy shit. When you said Night Train, I thought you meant the Guns N Roses song. Now that song's fuckin good. i think strike anywhere's overall stage presence/live show is better than t bomb and the souls. but the souls have more "good" songs than strike anywhere just b/c they've been around longer. although i will say the new souls record was kinda disappointing. just didn't have that umph! that their other records had. oh and agent m is hot. you can take that to the bank. You should be relinquished of your right to post any further reviews. This review does not do the Souls justice. Sure Strike Anywhere may have more energy on stage, but the bouncing souls are just amazing. The energy in the crowd for every song, and they just totaly rock. "Colfax Crack" ? Isn't that a REALLY LONG street in Denver ? I might be mistaken, but I seem to remember driving like 3 hours along it. 'Here's a mostly full setlist not in any order but from what I remember. -ntp-' Bouncing Souls are NOTHING live compared to Strike Anywhere. When I saw each band for the first time, I was relatively unfamiliar with them, so I am not biased.......Strike Anywhere's live show cannot improve much more. Strike Anywhere not as good as the Boucning souls or tsunami bamb... what? granted ive only seen the Boucning souls once and ive never seen TB, but i saw Strike Anywhere twice in august both times in little ass clubs. they went off. when people are hanging from rafters singing along, thats going off. so you gotta buy one of their records and give them the props that they deserve. whcih is that they were just ass good as the headliners. im going to that tour on saturday. i know who ill be jumping for. "bouncing souls need to play "cracked"" "Tsunami Bomb were ok too, energetic, beautiful singer, but super poppy, kind of a way pussier version of the distillers playing songs by good charlotte." i went to the show in denver last week and i'm guessing it was pretty similar. . .here is a what i think better review: I stopped reading when the reviewer said that Tsunami Bomb and The Souls were better than Strike Anywhere. I was waiting for this review to be posted. I was at the show in chicago also. How could you forget "simple man" when they brought paint it black's guitarist on stage to play guitar with them? to the dude below.. the new drummer isnt that new.. been with em for over 3 years and did summer vacation. FUCK T BOMB. first thing i had to say b/c they are pure shit less than jake and rise against are seminal bands? news to me. i'm looking forward to this show. I'm looking forward to this tour so much, but having seen both Strike Anywhere and Tsunami Bomb, I have to say I'd be surprised if Strike Anywhere doesn't play a more energetic set. But we're all entitled to our own opinions. I've seen the Souls 4 times and Greg has never really looked too "into it". But his voice is always good. This review sucks more cock than your mama did while she was waiting for you in the parking lot during the show. Wanted Dead opened the show. There pretty much lets get drunk and fuck bitches type of guys...99% of there songs were about getting drunk and fucking bitches lol. I was really excited to see this review up, considering that I went to this show, but this review was horrendous. I agree with what the reviewer said about the "Greg not getting into it" thing. I was at the Electric Factory show in Philly, and for the first 5 minutes Greg was moving so little that I thought he had a rod up his ass. I soon found out, however, that it must have been some sort of magical punk rock singing rod that makes you play one hell of a show! Greg's voice never sounded better, and they played for an hour and fifteen minutes, with two encores! Unbefuckinlievable. Good review. I saw this tour in my town and it was just as good as you described it. I wasn't familiar with tsunami bomb prior to the show but they impressed me. Agent M was rockin out, lookin good and it wasn't just the alcohol. good times I was at the show. I was into all the bands. Tsunami Bomb was good, but I think it does lack something without the old bassist. He added something extra to me. The new guy is great, but doesn't grab me like it used to. Good review. I'm glad to see the Souls are still playing "The Ballad of Johnny X" since it's a really great song. fuck this review, night trian is one of the best songs on the new record. Can someone tell me if Vision is worth checking out ? They open the entire tour, and I've never heard anything by them. Wow! It sounds like you witnessed pirate punk at it's finest... | Features
