Lucky Boys Confusion, being a suburban pop-rock group from Chicago…usually gets pigeonholed with many other less talented suburban Chicago groups. You may be surprised at what you hear out of these guys. They write a very distinct blend of punk, reggae, and hip-hop music to create a unique sound. Their first CD, released in 1998, was raw but showed the band’s enormous amount of potential. The band then gained a following in the Midwest and released a single, “Dumb Pop Song” to the local stations here in Chicago. They picked up a major record contract along the way with Elektra, while touring profusely. They then released an album, “Throwing the Game”, their first from Elektra. This album screams party, to say the least, with most the songs being about partying, drinking, smoking pot, and running from cops. It turned out to be an extremely underrated album, mixing elements of several genres while being quite catchy. The CD’s main single, Fred Estaire also got plenty of spins here in Chicago, being a pretty unique pop-rock song inspired by the great Fred Estaire, of course. Not to mention these guys put on a hell of a live show. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
Now, I'm a big fan of Lucky Boys Confusion, to start off. hmm. I've never really been able to get into this band. I find that they are better live [I saw them with the Dog & Everything and Treaty of Paris a long time ago, still one of the most entertaining live bands/crowds I've seen.] than they are recorded. They do have a few decent songs though. their lyrics are pretty good, something to believe has the best...but being from the suburbs of chicago, and their guitarest coming out of my hometown naperville..i've been on the bandwagon from the first time i saw them live, which is quite a show i've been an LBC fan since they came out i do miss the ska but they still are pretty good and all of these people that talk crap and dont leave a name are just mad that LBC isnt like all of these other bands that people say are cool so they decide to listen be an indivudial go on what you think is good not what the media says is cool think for yourself and my name is chuck my email if anybody wants to respond to this comment is norbcal89@aol.com THIS BAND ROCKS! great guitar work with simple lyricks and some good fusion I LOVE LUCKY BOYS CONFUSION! not only is there music awesome but they are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and they are willing to talk and answer question that their fans might have. they put on an awesome show EVERY time! stubhy, jason, adam, ryan, and joe...you guys rock I'm from Europe and even I know them. They're pretty kickass, it's my second favourite band. THis band is fun. Who giuves a shit who likes them or whether or not they meet your stupid textbook definition of punk? OH yes, to add to the comment I made below, for I have just finished reading everyone elses! I would just like to say that music is an expression of self. If you feel that lucky boys are not your genre, then so be it! Then if they are well that is great! If you don't understand what genre is then shut up. The thing is these guys are wickedly awesome (as people) and they work their butts off everytime they are on the road, like I said they do what they love. All of you people out there that think that their music sucks so be it, but get off your high-horse and come down to the ground and realize that you are not the regulation on good and bad, you are just a listening audience. Not everyone needs has the same opinion. You cannot live on the fact that you do not like THIS band, but instead dwell on what you love, leave the people who like them alone. Just find your thing, and rock out with your cock out. (if your a girl, go get a chicken) I think that this band has reached their potential and that they are able to create an album this timme with not the normalcy of their past, but instead with maturity that they have grown into. This album is not about their highschool experiences anymore, it is about them becoming adults, about adult music. I feel that this album is to those dedicated fans, not those fair weather ones. It is all about those who have loved them from the get go... write what you know... write what you love... they do what they do because they love it, it is just an added bonus that other people love it just as much. how do you know that someone in "the shitty" band posted it? did the little bunny tell you? I will trash them if I feel like it. I use to be a huge 420 Geek fan but this no cd is some of the worst shit I have heard. I only good thing about this album is the to reggae dubs that open and close the cd and also that Half Pint makes an apperance on the cd. Besides that they are all dumb pop punk songs. I don't know what happen to them. They use to have an in your face funky rap reggae style. Very familar to old school 311 "this band fuckin kicks ass, all you other people are full of shit, just because you don't enjoy the music doens't mean you have to trash them, atleast they have a great sound, unlike a lot of the underground bands that think if they yell into the mic that they will make it, and the truth is they won't, people can connect to these guys, but hey whats it matter they will have money and you won't...good logic there guys I didn't mean, I being the person who typed the big long anti-bashing article below, that we are not entitled to our own opinions. To rephrase we are entitled to our own opinons about whatever we want, but no one deserves to be reffered to as "they're a piece of shit band." What if I said "you're a piece of shit kid" and you would respond "give me one reason." My point is the album shouldn't be bashed, it should be criticized. Give some backing (valid reasons too) to what you say. And keep the low down garbage out of it. It's worthless. Just like "you suck" or "you rule" isn't a great review at all. People don't have a right to their own opinion? Hey, geez I can't believe the naughty words that come out of all your 10 yr. old mouths. Maybe if anyone actually took the time to listen to this album they would take it for what it is: Brilliance. this band fuckin kicks ass, all you other people are full of shit, just because you don't enjoy the music doens't mean you have to trash them, atleast they have a great sound, unlike a lot of the underground bands that think if they yell into the mic that they will make it, and the truth is they won't, people can connect to these guys, but hey whats it matter they will have money and you won't...good logic there guys hghmm whom ever wrote no = know. I was on the phone when typing this. Whoops! ive been masturbating that long... and i still think i find a better more efficient way to do it every time. Of course i am familiar w/ it, but that doesnt mean that somebody can't do it a different way than I. In fact their way may be better....I welcome all suggestions.. The year was a reference point that I am familiar with what people like in general around here. Do I think I'm special and no everyone? NO. But being involved with it for so long it's kinda hard not to become familiar with it! watch out! battle of the old scenesters! What point were you trying to prove by telling us how long you've been listening to punk exactly. Just because you've been, in the scene, (by the way that term is CRAP) doesn't give you the right to say anything. This band may suck, but they drive around in a van all year and tour their butts off. Their DIY, thats punk rock. because i said so and i've been 'in the scene' since 93....ugh eh check yo'self befo' you wreck yo'self. "the music nazi is pissed watch out you punk points will be subtracted and you will wallow in the shame of being uncool and not with it beacause the all mighty scenster from 1995 has declared so" utter crap, one of the worst bands around i havent heard this yet.. but "throwing the game" was a good cd.. something to put in the cd player now and then for a good listen. and for good quotes like " theres always the backseat" pure shit. (i think scott already said this though) ok. i come to this website all the time. you people make me laugh. everyone takes this shit so seriously. but it's just music. if you don't like LBC, hey thats cool. you probably wouldn't like my band either. no problem. but why get all upset about it? the music nazi is pissed watch out you punk points will be subtracted and you will wallow in the shame of being uncool and not with it beacause the all mighty scenster from 1995 has declared so "all bow to mr. anonymous below. He obviously is the missing link that the underground music scene has been looking for ever so hard. He is a golden god and should be treated as one....1995.... You must have invented the music scene. Congratulations on being the first person to ever like music. Once again you have proved to us that only your opinion matters and that people are not allowed to have their own taste in music. All hail to the music nazi for we have sinned against him and his flawless musical tastes." whats all this discussion about? "Like I said I am not a fan of their music but I am even less of a fan of people spouting off trashing bands when they clearly have no idea what they're talking about." all bow to mr. anonymous below. All hail to the music nazi for we have sinned against him and his flawless musical tastes. "I can't think of a single person that likes this band, has seen this band live, or has ever heard them." their band name sux, however, i think this is one of the better pop punk albums of the year. their old album had alot more ska and funk type songs, this one is more pop punk. very good pop punk. they have little energy live, however they are very good musically live. very tight (goldmember voice) yes i can see, very toit. hey driver, beware are awesome and the song w/ half pint on it is agreat pop reggae song, almost sounds like sublime but obviously not as good. for everyone that doesn't like these guys at all, at least you have to agree that these guys have a hell of a following to consistently sell out the metro every time they have a show there. I figured these guys werent going to be too well accepted here though DISCLAIMER: I am not an LBC fan but the following people need to be corrected: I enjoy these guys. They are a pretty fun band. dignin = whack. noble stabbings! me janelle=rimjob I like them. yeah, most everyone that is above 15 hates these dudes, especially in chicago Don't be mean to Chicago because of this band. We have lots of bands to be proud of, dick! lucky boys confusion...bringing shame to the land of lincoln for 5 years running meh, learn to take things for what they're worth. one of the worst albums of the year. right up there with story of the year and simple plan. I usually never say this, as it's almost always possible to find some positive characteristic about any band: but Lucky Boys Confusion is horrible. Oh how can you say such a thing - SCREECHING WEASEL REDEEMS ALL. Don't you forget it. I don't want to sound like a senseless hater, but I guess that's impossible now...These guys and Mest are the reason why Chicago should be excluded from the midwest. Not even AL3 can make up for the shittiness. this is the worst fucking band name ever, with some shitty fucking music, and i would undoubtedly destroy them in a strangling contest if this record was playing to fuel floods of rage. i have never heard this band, though i assume that they are very bad. i heard all these guys are doing time for molesting kids. i guess they were "touchin' the children foe all the wrong reasons" hahahahahahaha What Scott said. peter from over it sings backup vocals on this cd. Shit. it's astaire. learn to spell retard - fred astare |
