| Down To NothingSave It For The Birds2003 Thorp

Richmond, VA’s Down to Nothing offer up 11 finger-pointingly good tracks with their debut full-length, “Save it for the Birds”. This album is just a whirlwind of speedy guitars and galloping drums, after the title track, there is no looking back. I’m heavily reminded of In My Eyes, Judge and other Revelation bands, back when they were infatuated almost exclusively with hardcore. To put it in scientific terms: this album rips. There are plenty of bands out there parading around with X’s on their hands and Minor Threat shirts on their backs, but few of them can compete with the intensity and sincerity of Down to Nothing. This is what truly separates them from their contemporaries. The second the track, “One Eighty” the obligatory “you turned your back” song actually has impact. I remember hearing this song for the first time on “Fighting Music Vol. II” a while back and wondering where I could hear more from this band. The lyrics basically tell of a friend who formerly shoved his beliefs in everyone else’s face, only to later shy away from those beliefs. There really isn’t a valley or down point on this album, no one song that makes you wish they’d up the tempo again. No one really knows what hardcore is these days, or so it seems. Everyone from Thursday to the Dillinger Escape Plan is being referred to as part of this genre. But make no mistake, Down to Nothing is most certainly a hardcore band, and they won’t do anything to shake that description. This album is really what hardcore should sound like, with nods to the past, but without hero worship or blatant plagiarism of other band’s songs.
In short, put down the Hatebreed CD and pick this one up instead, you’ll thank me later

i was at the DTN/paint it black show, dtn didn't start taht shit, they where playing whent that shit started to go down, some other assholes started it, they where just helping out friends oh the hilarity. Or you're just retared. ...Of complete and utter retardation. Sickboi is champion. Quit dodgin what I'm saying, I was standing right there when it happened. DTN got all worked up and tried to start shit with Paint It Black until Dan Yemin put them in their place. And I was at Mojo's when DTN and the "Guerilla Crew" (hahaha still laughing) came up to try to start more. sickboi has yes to say anything accurate or intelligent. Your word of mouth judgements and stereotypes are spent, and now you have to start talking as ridiculous as possible. 1. Yes, the Guerilla crew. and this has relevance to H(804) how? Oh, right, it doesn't. You act like a being in a hardcore "crew" no matter how serious/not serious they are, is like being in the KKK. OK champ, last post. Lee suggs be careful with those knees! Mothafuckin' H-O-K-I-EEEEESSS well duh four walls was amazing. but this isn't the "compare dtn to four walls" thread. dtn happens to be an EXTREMELY nice bunch of dudes who are NOT involved in H(804) or however you wanna abbreviate it. H(804) was a crew and a band that was dominant back in the late 90's. those kids have all dropped out of hardcore. the dtn guys are super nice, and they just really like playing old school hardcore, and they really enjoy straightedge. if their friends mosh hard, big deal, doesn't mean they are a bunch of steakheads or whatever other stereotype you choose to place on them. sickboi - don't talk about hardcore like you know anything about it. cause it's preeetty obvious that you just don't know what you're talking about. im not saying thats bad, im just saying, don't sit there and make shitty assumptions and stereotypes based on what "friends of the band" told you and the legends you've heard about in the 2 years you've been going to twisters. I thought the proper abreviation was H(804)? Let's Talk about xHeadwalkx instead. oh sickboi that was such a super argument! i love reading your comments on here, you are totally showing those hardcore kids just how dumb they are for liking their steakhead music! everything you say is so intelligent, its like reading Anti Flag lyrics! I mean you've been to a rva hardcore show with DTN playing so you must have seen all the terrible shit they do to people! H8-04 is alive and still wreaking havoc on richmond punks and indie kids! i heard that one time the singer raped on old lady crossing the street and then moshed all over her and then was like "edgebreak facebreak!" id rather listen to with honor. I bet if Jamie Hatebreed ever fought DTN he would totally destroy them. Oh, I don't mind doll, but thanks... we love you sickboi, don't let it bother you. Wah wah wah. sickboi made fun of me for posting with an exclamation point at the end of my name. sweet. Good one. Nice comments, steakhead. Regardless of your witty remarks, I've seen these guys live, and their jocktacular fans, which, I will always pass on. Internet crybabies are awesome, keep posting sickboi. But some girl told me that, so I'm not 100% on it. I'll get back to you when I have the facts so I can bitch more by way of my keyboard. A. I hate indie rock. sickboi - grow up. nobody from this band is in hate-0-four. thats just one of those urban legends you've heard about at your shitty richmond indie rock shows. I think this band has someone from Hate-O-Four in it, if so, fuck dat. This score is for Hate-O-Four. i like when people talk about how hardcore should be. it makes me feel better about myself cause i then know im not the dumbest person ever. Oh no Jamie's everywhere. Canst we not escape his wrath? "In short, put down the Hatebreed CD and pick this one up instead, you’ll thank me later." |
