I went to this show with mediocre expectations. I guess it’s because these bands just don’t excite me like they would have four years ago. Apparently these bands don’t excite many other people either because there weren’t a lot there. I went to this show more for a friend than I did for myself. Every Hot Water Music show I’ve been to, there is always a similar response to the lack of a large crowd. “Wow, I thought there’d be more people than this, it is Hot Water Music.” I hate to break it to you people, but no matter how hard they try, Hot Water Music has trouble selling a place out as a headlining band. First, dont rip on the bouncing souls cuz they are one of the best, if not the best live acts ever. plus their music kicks ass. the lawrence arms and hot water AND the bouncing souls are amazing. Fuck you loser dont make fun of the Bouncing Souls there way better than HWM. Don't rip on ASL so hardcore, a few of their songs are good. Just b/c they're cookie-cutter screamo is no reason to judge em. Their live performance is another story though. I never seen em live, but if the majority of you guys said they sucked, I'll take your word for it. Some of you people are fucking retards. Anytime somebody bashes on a band you like, you say the review is shit and all these comments about her liking brand new and blink 182 don't make any sense to me - are yoiu actually defending A Static Lullaby with that comment? I'd much rather listen to either blink or brand new then that horrible shit. Lawrence Arms and These Arms are Snakes both don't do much for me either, though I am a huge HWM fan...it's been a couple years since I seen'em. Hot Water Music sucks and especially once I found out that the drummer is gay. I think that its gross and these guys should be boycotted for promoting homosexuality. I am probably going to get bashed, but our lord does not accept beastly behavior. Duh no shit? This show sucked? Maybe you should go to the casbah every now and then. How do you get sheena to cut herself? Give her a knife and ask her whos special. Haha, I think this bitch is the worst reviewer on this goddamn site. Must have been that time of the month. Ah, I love political correctness. The Scene is officially closed now. Damn. Now SOMA will take over with their crappy shows and Clear Channel ties. I saw this show back in CA. Hopefully, I would never have to sit through these boring ass opening bands again. HWM was great though. The highlight of that night was when they did "True Believers". Which was cool, because I remember when the Bouncing Souls covered "Trusty Chords" when I saw them about a month ago when Strike Anywhere opened. Awesomeness. seeing a band 6 times in 2 years isn't really that much... This is a poor review because most of the review is spent on the worst band of all, ASL. Leave out the stuff about what you read how many times you had to pee and stick to the bands performance and the review would be much better. and about 3 sentences. i don't mind TAAS, when i saw them in montreal they we're ok, with more experience i think that they'll become quite good live. they're not that much of an ATDI copycat either, i don't think that there are that many similarities, it's similar kind of music, creative, agressive but not hardcore, and passionate. I went to every HWM show from 97-2002! I will never go to another one (unless they are opening for another good band or vice-versa_! I like HWM, but i'm really tired of them! It sounds like you are too! Don't go next time! Sheena, do the world a favor and never write another review...maybe you should have let your friend review the show instead... 'If you saw the same band so many times, you might get burned out on them as well. ' if you dont like any of these bands, and you knew you wouldnt like any of these bands (from how this sounds) why did you go? You know, I don't know what to say after I read that... in houston the encore was true believers and wild in the streets(circle jerk cover) I'd love to hear them cover the Souls...that would be so rad. This review was good, but here's How I would make it better: I was at this show and HWM were fucking amazing. These Arms are Snakes were too At The Drive-in ripoff for me and a static lullabye were just Simple Plan after they got ahold of Shape of Punk to Come (case in point; lead singer's green fau-hawk)but the Lawrence Arms and HWM fucking owned everyone but the review's asses. They probably owned her ass too but she's too cool to admit it, or she's moody or what ever. I especially enjoyed HWM's comments on Brand New playing the venue a few days before them, and their thought on "heartcore". And the encore wasn't planned (at least it wasn't on the set list like so many other bands) so it's not like they had set to end the show with a cover. I found it to be a very welcome surprise and tribute to another great band. So if you find HWM borring and mediocre, than start going to and reviewing shows you enjoy and are in the mood for. I drove from St. Louis to Texas for this tour and I thought it was incredible.Hot Water Music was far from boring and this is coming form someone who has seen them six times since July.I went to the Houston, Austin, and San Antonio shows they were all good,these guys pour themselves into their shows everynight. Hot Water just came off a tour with the Bouncing Souls which is most likely why they did true believers. Every time I see HWM I sit in the back of whatever venue they're playing at and yell "alachua!" at the top of my lungs!! Same set every time! I can't think of anything better to do with my time than enjoy HWM with a couple friends, personally. Ok Scott, thanks for the correction. But she worded her opinion horrifically. They are far from boring, maybe she's bored of them.... i realize what people are saying "everyones entitled to their own opinion", but if youre that BORED at a show, yet somehow have the motivation to write a review when you get home then i do believe you had this review planned out before even attending the show. i was at this show and it was my 1st time seeing HWM, i thought it was a good show, i wasnt drunk tho so that was kinda lame, but i had been at night school before i went to the show so i missed the 1st 2 bands, i wished i had missed the 3rd. all that screaming was annoying, anyways i thought HWM rocked, there werent really a grip of people there but when they played rooftops and one of the guys threw the mic, mic stand included into the crowd for the chorus i thought that was realy cool. very rock and roll, they had good energy. and then there was the little girl who was on her dads shoulders watching the show, her 1st , and HWM aked her if she was having good timeand she said that she enjoyed it so what does this reveiwer know anyway. kids are smarter than you all know. and on a sad note that was the last show i went to at that venue(the scene) it closed on sunday.. tis a shame. This reviewer is a fucking idiot. I work on a tour in which i see the same bands play the same set every day for two months. After two months of the same songs in the same order, naturally I get tired of the artist. So, I understand seeing a band more than a couple of times. However, I recognize that the boredom lies within my overexposure, and not with the band's supposed apathy. To quote, Opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one, and this one happens to stink. REALLY BAD! Allow me to post a sampling of Sheena's thoughts on Hot Water Music from her past live reviews: its not HWM music's fault that a reviewer is unable to appreciate the honesty and genuine emotion they play with every night and have for years. It sucks when fans are too cool to appreciate the hardwork, and good songwriting that both larry arms and hot water music bring to the table. Those bands have put out tons of amazing, well written releases, perform well every night, and deserve respect. Reviews like this are unnecessary, ignorant, and meaningless. I just realized that you talked shit about Lawrence Arms, Hot Water Music, and Bouncing Souls, all in one review. Why the hell would you go to a show, when dislike every band playing, and then talk shit about ONE song that a band covered. Theres no reasoning for it, besides that fact your just plain stupid (or deaf, for that matter...). And lastly, Bouncing Souls are most definitly not boring. I want to shoot myself from boredom after reading this review. Eat a dickwich. a show is what you make of it. You didn't allow yourself to have fun therefore, you didn't. at the show that i went to HWM played a song where they kept singing what sounded like "burn the stripes". what song was that? First off, while I don't think this was a particularly good review, the reviewer doesn't deserve all this bullshit from you people. Anyways, I went to the last show of this tour in San Francisco, it was awesome. A Static Lullaby sucked horribly though, the screaming turned into a gimmick instead of being an expression of an emotion and they were assholes on top of that. However, Hot Water Music was great. Can anyone name a female punknews reviewer that doesn't get shit? Because I'm coming up empty. This cunt gave a 9 to a Dashboard show, and a 5 to a HWM/Larry Arms shows?! read the review of this show in NYC to get a real idea of how fucking awesome it was.... and how much ASL need to die Jesus Christ this chick sucks at reviewing shows. This is how her mind operates: Nevermind, that's what I get for only skimming that part. I can't believe you find ASL better than These Arms Are Snakes. This score is for your deductive powers on that one. I was at this this show in the very front. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. These Arms are Snakes was quite odd. The lead singer kept sticking the whole mike into his mouth and also ventured to the crowd where he put his arm around me more than once. What a freakin nutcase! I like the Lawrence Arms but their performance seemed lacking to me. I couldnt stand A Static Lullaby and spent my time playing Pacman(every 20 seconds I heard the lead singer's ridiculous scream and couldnt stop laughing).Finally, Hot Water Music put on a very good show that I really enjoyed. Thought they had tons of energy and really seemed into their performance. Overall a good show with a couple of bands I really enjoy and a few I could do without. Well, good job not enjoying yourself. I saw Hot Water Music and the Lawrence Arms at the Fest. In addition to both bands ruling, they both came out with a lot of energy; in fact I thought it was a more energetic HWM set than the last time I had seen them. This score is the same as yours for your reasoning for even going to the show if you find HWM boring and are indifferent at best to the other bands. Although I have to agree that A Static Lullaby is the worst shit ever. This review was shit. Stop posting her reviews.. They suck.. She talks more about what kind of "Mood" she was in then she does about the bands... Worst reviews ever... All of them.. Correct if I am wrong, and I could be, but doesn't she rag on HWM in every review she's done? Why wouldn't she review it? She went to a show that featured a band that she liked [and has seen many times before], and they didn't perform well. I like reading honest show reviews, instead of the "Oh my god all the bands were amazing" reviews. Sheena, you are soo cool.... OK, If you don't like HWM, quit reviewing their shows, christ.
