 Published on December 5th 2003 It’s been a relatively good year for hardcore. We’ve seen quality releases from the likes of Give up the Ghost, Sick of it All, and of course, Paint it Black. We’ve also seen quality releases from hardcore influenced bands like Rise Against, Death by Stereo, and Shai Hulud. Now with all these releases, some albums are obviously going to be lost. While this is inevitable, that doesn’t make it any less of a shame. Far From Breaking is a straight edge hardcore band out of Texas, and they know how to rock. The band flies through twelve songs with youthful energy and vigor, free of any jadedness or posturing. Like a boxer landing a flurry of punches, Far From Breaking makes their point shortly and succinctly. Only four of the songs on “The Identity” break the two minute mark, but what they lack in time they make up for in intensity. As hardcore has evolved into post-hardcore, and metalcore, post-wave-nu gongcore and whatever else I’ve seen my fair share of people saying things like “metal is the new hardcore.” Well, evidently someone forgot to tell these guys, because this release harkens back to the days of bands like Youth of Today and Chain of Strength. Speedy guitars, shout along choruses, and galloping drums. Powerful vocals, combined with sincere lyrics, make this almost impossible not to sing along with. This album could probably pass as a re-issue of some long forgotten hardcore band of the late eighties, but instead it’s a release from this relatively new outfit. Far From Breaking blends what seems to be the poise of a veteran band with the youthful exuberance and passion of a young band. This is, in my opinion, the surprise release of the year, from a band that few have probably had the pleasure of listening to. i'm listening to this right now. i'm not observant. i didn't even see this on the reviews sidebar thing. i think superdude is funny. ...and by pointing it out you have, in fact, jut proved yourself to be retarded as well. Enjoy! superdude is completely fucking retarded How about far from good? This review was good, but here's how I would make it better: Straight edge does suck. It's funny how I can only stand their music when I'm on downers. Well I thought it was funny. 1) nice review. this record does fucking rock. YES. GONGCORE RETURNS! I was so happy when militant straight edge died out. I never had to worry about it cuz I never drank or smoked or anything...but at the sam time im not straight edge. i just dont do them because I dont wat to, and I never needed a religion to tell me not to. But some of those bald growling pansies used to be such huge dicks to people who drank at skatepark shows... Hearing the words "straight edge hardcore" totally turns me off. I don't need a bunch of pussies screaming about not doing drugs, fuck that. I don't care if someone is straight edge, but to base all of your music on it is just stupid. And i know you guys are going to compare it to someone like Snoop Dogg rapping about smoking weed all of the time, that's different, Snoop is a fucking pimp and he can do whatever he wants. Sounds good. I'll definitely have to check these guys out. I just heard this band over at the wesite and its sweet. It reminds me of ten yard fight but it says the just broke up! Sounds good, but note to bands: sort of has a ten yard fight sound to it. i like it. glad to see there is people on this site who know what real hardcore is about. good review, but i doubt the majority of the kids reading this will get it, its not lame emo pop punk and to they guy below, in my eyes were great. The mp3 on the Youngblood page reminds me of In My Eyes. If the whole thing is this good, it's gonna be one of my favorites this year. Good review. |
