Epitaph Records -- Millencolin

Ok, wow I looked at the reviews today and realized that NUFAN's Leche Con Carne was not reviewed. How could argueably one of their best albums have gone unnoticed? So I guess i'll accept the challenge of putting one of my favorite band's best cds into words.

Leche Con Carne is straight up punk. This cd is before the More Betterness/Hard Rock Bottom days of more pop than punk. This cd starts off with Justified Black Eye, a fan favorite and an overall brilliant song. The emotion that is put into Tony's voice on this opening track never ceases to amaze me. Next up, Couch Boy is sort of a let down after Justified Black Eye, but after a few listens the song really does being to grow on you.

Now for Soulmate. What can I say about one of the best songs Tony has written? Simply put it makes this cd worth its money. Tony's voice and lyrics carry this song into the greatness it has now achieved. Soulmate is always in the live sets and this Cd was the birth of it all.

51 Days tends to bore me, and the singing seems forced this and Wood are definitely two of the low points on the cd. Dare I say these seem like filler...

Redemption Song, the Bob Marley cover is on here as well. I have never heard so much emotion put into a cover as I did here. The passion in Tony's voice, as well as the speed of the song never ceases to amaze me.

Straight From Jacket another popular song carried by Tony's vocals and witty lyrics. I know the lyrics mean something deeper than what is on the surface and the story of a boy being abandoned by his family is delievered to perfection.

Fatal Flu is a song often ignored it seems. It wasnt on the Live In A Dive album and most fans that I talk to dont seem to recognize the brilliance behind this song. Its very catchy and seems to be making a meaningful analysis of society's problems. The best advice I can give is to check this song out.

Finally the closer of all closers, Exit. This is my favorite NUFAN song, take one listen and you'll understand. I cannot begin to express the perfection here and I will not even attempt it. Those of you who have heard this band know that Exit is a song that will affect everyone who listens to it.

No Use proves on this cd why their fan base was so loyal and large even without major exposure. They were just that damn good at making fun catchy punk rock music. Unfortunately, in my mind, things went downhill for NUFAN after this. Finally reaching its low after Hard Rock Bottom, a cd in which the band dismissed all their punk in favor of pop. Not to say it was a bad cd, it just wasnt what Leche Con Carne was to No Use fans like myself.

I can only long for the days when Tony Sly would belt out songs like this...

Also one of the best punk rock albums of all time. 51 Days is a really good song, since I live near Waco, Texas and saw all the senseless violence, it appeals to me. Tony Sly is an excellent songwriter.

That cover is the worst version is the worst version of Redemption Song I've heard. They've pretty much murdered a brilliant and moving song.

Isn't it funny how everyone has a different favorite from NUFAN ? I personally liked Making Friends and More Betterness the best. I also like the Live in a Dive CD, the version of "Not Your Savior" is better than on CD.

To the 16 year old who commented about his homeroom being filled with "posers" - huh ? You're fucking 16 !!! You and your peers are still trying to find your identities. If you like NUFAN, cool; if you like The Impossibles, cool; if you like Outkast, cool; if you like Killswitch Engage, cool. It's all opinion, and we're all searching for our own. Yours isn't ANY better than theirs. I like MANY types of music, and I deal with all kinds of elitists. Get the fuck over yourself. If you're listening to music made 30 years ago, or music made by a band no one has heard of, it doesn't make you better than the guy who loves Rancid more than anyone else, or the guy that thinks Tupac is a genius. GET THE FUCK OVER YOURSELF !!!

Also, pay more attention to classes, and less to the people in them, you fucking misspelled "scene".

    My Score:

First of all.. Leche is one of the best all time newschool punk rock records, period.

    As for the EP/LP thing..

Originally in the music business artists just released "singles" which were records with one song on the front side and sometimes a "B-side" which was a second song on the other side of the record. These were both played on the radio and sold in stores.

An EP (extended-play) was a record that held more songs than that, generally somewhere between 3-5. LP (long play) are "albums" that had many songs on them.

These days LP generally refers to your normal CDs/records/albums that play for a half hour or more. EP is typically an album/cd that is shorter.. in the punk scene 10 tracks or less is usually called an EP.

Singles are still singles, generally titled after the first track and usually no more than 2 extra songs on them. Almost always created exclusively for radio play.

    My Score:

i was a little confused about your comment of fatal flu. i always thought it was about a girl or boy who had contracted A.I.D's. i could be wrong though. Anyway, I thought this album was alright. It had good lyrics and sounded fine but as a music fan i like abit more creativity. Im not asking for jazz, i love punk and hardcore, but it just sounded bland to me. thats just me though. As for that guy who busted on that kid for saying cd instead of ablum all i can say is get a life. I dont buy albums because i cant play them in my car, i cant skip songs and i cant return where i left off. It's the year 2003 and most people dont buy albums. If you do thats great but get a life already.

My fav Nufan cd's/lp's(to the person who says its improper to call them cd's)

    1. Daily Grind-short but simply the best.
    2. Leche Con Carne
    3. Hard Rock Bottom
    4. More Betterness
    5. Making Friends
    6. Don't miss the train
    7. Incognito

Live in a Dive doesn't count since its not a studio album but if it counted it would be my fav.......I was in the audience.

"If I had never discovered this band or this album, I have no idea where I would be today. I owe No Use For A Name everything."

I couldnt have said it better, dude. I bought this because I was planning on going to the 1st Warped Tour and knew they were going to be on it. At the time, Dookie and Let's Go were probably the only punk albums I'd heard, and this one blew me away. They rocked much ass at Warped Tour as well, and I've been a dedicated fan ever since. I actually consider "Making Friends" the weakest of their albums after "Incognito". "Hard Rock Bottom" is just OK, and "More Betterness" rules. And, undoubtedly, "Live in a Dive" is your best bet for your first CD by them. For me, it's probably tied with Strung Out's album of the same name for my fave live album ever.

Also, calling their latest stuff straight up pop is total bullshit. It's still punk, just more melodic and slightly more accessible. There's nothing wrong with that.

Just because you can't by LPs at walmart doesn't mean they don't exist. So how about reviewing the vinyl counterpart next time as well?
