A glimpse at the old review of this album combined with boredom led me to think that, especially with the controversy many people have started over the new album, led me to take a few minutes to outline my own take on Against Me!'s release of a year and a half ago. I left out some songs, because, as The Dude would say, I'm a fan of brevity - but that is not to downplay their importance. Please login or register to post comments. I'll be drinking Irish tonight yeah.. yeah.. yeah.. Great album, or greatest album? yeah so i live by chicago and i saw theyre playing at the all state arena. what happened to "basements are arenas"? Probably the best album of 2002. THE perfect album. im a sad pathetic, probably 14 year old boy with nothing better to do than piss people off over the internet by relentlesly commenting about an extreamly mediocre album. This is my favorite Against Me! album, and probably their best work. I listened to them before I moved to Gainesville. I didn't want to move here, but when I found out Against Me! were from here, I was a happier. I love this album and have listened to hit several times. But too bad this band is really popular, and most of the time they're always on tour. So much for moving to Gainesville.. Crimes as Forgiven By... is their best album. This one is pretty good though. Crimes made me want to go looting. Their new shit just doesn't have the same effect. (although it is still better than most bands) best cd of all time hands down some great songs: Guiness, Walking is still Honest, 8 hours etc but also some filler Superb! i like the fact that he clains to be a fan of brevity in what is probably the longest review i've ever seen on this site. Isn't anarchy about having no governing body? How does NOT succumbing to your rules of "Punk Rock & Anarchism" make Tom Gabel less of an anarchist. baby, im an anarchist. too bad tom gabel isnt anymore This band ain't got shit on Good Charlotte. I wonder if this BSD idiot is ever going to shut the hell up. The Dude did not say, "I'm a fan of brevity." "Rise Against own buddy" My little red devil tape says copyright 1969. It's really rare, and nomeansno made it when they were like 14 or something. Anyone seeing the Against Me show Jan 30th in Philly? I was talking albums. And 78 is still too late for the class of 76, 75, and 74 punk bands. Ooh, someone has cinematic taste.....The guy who did special effects for Evil Dead, including making the book of the dead, lives about 15 minutes from me in a small rural town, Marshall, Michigan.......Though being a small town in middle of nowhere, it's als where Small Brown Bike lives.....but they suck. Anyway, the special effect guy lived across the street of one of my ex-bandmates, and he said the guy is totally nuts. I guess those who brave going to his house are rewarded with things from the film though. He gave another kid I know the book of the dead blueprints.......But anyway... nomeansno started out in 78 I believe. Is this... What day is this? Rise Against own buddy But you were going to the show for Rise Against. This score is for that. I just don't get it MoMeansNo were pretty good too. AT used to put out great stuff, 'til three douche-nozzles decided to wrap Jello in litigation. Nomeansno were an 80s band... So, you're incorrect. I really don't care who created punk, but if you;re the kind of guy who does, you should at least get the band or bands that created it right. I'm not totally sure, but didn't nomeansno exist some five or six years before any of those other bands? No doubt, Axl Rose is a fucking idiot It's about time someone shot Axl Rose. Great album from a great band. "the clash had people design their clothes, but the sex pistols were designed FOR the clothes." "bsd- i play guitar, i have an issue of guitar magazine that features an interview with mr. diggle of the buzzcocks... it has a sidebar feature on steve jones, who says that he was a miserable guitar player, the sex pistols were his first band, and that he just sat around smoking meth and practicing his downstrokes after mclaren threatened to kick him out of the band. BSD is a poser and a jerk off plain and simple no, you never said anything about them being sexy. you said that steve jones was chosen because he looked stylish, bsd just didn't have a comeback, so he explained that they weren't sexy. they still rock, though. also, i'm not saying the sex pistols were "sexy." i'm saying mclaren chose them to represent the street level image of the bondage gear he was trying to introduce to the mainstream. they weren't attractive, but neither is s&m, and that is the whole point. bsd- i play guitar, i have an issue of guitar magazine that features an interview with mr. diggle of the buzzcocks... it has a sidebar feature on steve jones, who says that he was a miserable guitar player, the sex pistols were his first band, and that he just sat around smoking meth and practicing his downstrokes after mclaren threatened to kick him out of the band. blah blah blah blah blah blah Uh yeah, that puts the age cap at younger than me... Go jack off to your Youth Brigade bootlegs. I like good music, sorry if what you listen to just so happens to suck good point. i think the punk world would be a lot different if Leatherface had gotten better distribution back in the day... of course, it probably still would've been lost in the nirvana grunge period. but man, i listen to "cherry knowle" and i hear them doing things a lot of bands today could learn quite a bit from. and their recent albums are excellent, too... I'm not trying to bash the Clash... I love the Clash. You're right. They could have signed to an indie, though. But I prefer that they hadn't. Imagine a world where the Clash never hit stateside... Imagine how much more sheltered punk would be if ALL bands were on indies. Crazy stuff. signing to a major label certainly has negative political connotations. but at the same time, there wasn't there wasn't the same extensive underground network of independent labels back then. while i'm not supporting such a decision, i could understand how someone would struggle with a choice between keeping one's message in obscurity and sacrificing a bit of credibility to get that message to a wider audience. aw, you kids are just the cutest little things i've ever seen! "It's also funny that a person not even alive when the Clash was writing music would call their lyrics naive. No, not so much funny as it is cute. And perhaps, dare I say, naive?" "Malcolm McLaren had been managing the New York Dolls, trying to help them breakthrough into the mainstream. The New York Dolls broke up. McLaren moved back to England, he ran a sex shop called The Sex Shop, or something. The New York Dolls were all about the fashion, and McLaren kept that in mind. The Pistols were designed to sell more of his cheap bondage gear. They were like, the poster boys of his cheesy fucking sex shop, brought together just to sell shit. also, this: I'd like for you to please (PLEASE!) point out where I said that debate about music is discouraged on a website about music. I really don't see where I said anything even remotely resembling that. "Your horribly regurgitated histories of such punk rock "luminaries" is excrutiatingly boring and the fact that you call other people ignorant for disagreeing with your version of history is equally disturbing." "but what i know about the sex pistols is that their manager went to new york, heard richard hell and the voidoids, and then went back to england and asked for a group of attractive young men to play songs that sounded like "blank generation." is that incorrect?" I'm not much of a fan of ageism at only 20 but I cringe at the thought of calling anyone "kid." Now I see someone four years my junior calling other people "kids." Don't be so high and mighty that you think you've got the right to look down on other people for what you perceive to be their inexperience. Your horribly regurgitated histories of such punk rock "luminaries" is excrutiatingly boring and the fact that you call other people ignorant for disagreeing with your version of history is equally disturbing. But I'm not going to call you a kid or tell you to grow up. That would be dumb. i'll admit i'm not too big of a music historian. i read occasional interviews if i really like a band... so i don't know too too much about the clash. but what i know about the sex pistols is that their manager went to new york, heard richard hell and the voidoids, and then went back to england and asked for a group of attractive young men to play songs that sounded like "blank generation." is that incorrect? "fuck the sex pistols, though. =) they were a made band, from everything i've heard..." who cares who created anything? the point isn't that the clash and the ramones invented anything... you could argue forever on who CREATED punk... the point is, both of their musical creations are still relevant today. just like the second wavers. i think it is kind of ridcidulous to argue to a certain extent over who is "better" than another band. the influence of the bands being discussed here, however, is undeniable. and that's the bottom line. You sound so ignorant... What type of music do you like? they're equivalent cuz they're overhyped and they suck, who cares if they created punk, fuck the founders, fuck the past live in the now you douche Again, I ask how old you are BSD....are you ashamed to say? "I group Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Clash in the same group with blink 182, they're horribly over hyped bands who's names are thrown around by people who know nothing about punk" Is nobody else going to stick up for good punk? "So you proved my point perfectly: You're a poseur jackass. Now go back to re-hyping Blink 182 as a real punk band and crawl out of that hole below your mom's stomach. And I hope your mom is dead. i dont like the clash, ramones, or sex pistols either, does that make me a posuer, asshole? BSD How old are you? good review. one of the best bands out the right now, and really fucking cool guys too. a friend of mine and i travelled a ways to see them and ended up walking in during the last song. we talked to the guys and told them our story and they gave us a bunch of free merch and put us on the guest list for their next show in the area. "Well, no i don't own shit by them, i got a burned sex pistols cd that makes a great coaster, I checked a clash cd out of the library, and other than 2 songs the whole thing was painfully horrible, so i didn't even bother burning it. I've just had better things to spend my money on than a Ramones CD, they're not good, they're not bad, they're just there." meh, crime and disco were better. but the original tunes on this are pretty damn close too. walking is still honest... the original is my favorite song of theirs, but the re-do is something i have never been able to stand for long. Well, no i don't own shit by them, i got a burned sex pistols cd that makes a great coaster, I checked a clash cd out of the library, and other than 2 songs the whole thing was painfully horrible, so i didn't even bother burning it. I've just had better things to spend my money on than a Ramones CD, they're not good, they're not bad, they're just there. You idiots. Those are all great bands. You're fucking uneducated. The kids who dis those bands, 100% don't have a real album or CD by them. It's punk to be stupid, not balls out ignorant. Now fuck off. Fuck Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Clash, I hear so many idiots talk about them as if they walked on water that I want to piss on all of those bands records. i wrote the first review for this album. excuse me for not going in depth with every single song and being lazy. my bad. yeah, but there's only one guitar... unless i'm mistaken. whereas the rest of the songs have two... Uh, dude, Baby I'm An Anarchist has drums, bass and electric guitars. Watchu been smoking? Their drummer got up and danced during their set, it was entertaining. Unfortunately it was the only enjoyable moment capping off a set filled with disappointment and disguist. But then Anti-Flag made up for it! Fuck Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Clash, I hear so many idiots talk about them as if they walked on water that I want to piss on all of those bands records. yeah.... OKSODA And of course I mean Fireside... not Fire Side. Whatever. I met the drummer once when they played the Fire Side. He was actually real cool. We talked about his outrageous beard for a minute, and then some other stuff. Not what I would really call "pretentious." Also, this album is good. meh, i didn't mean it as an insult when i said "outrageousness," i meant "not-PCness" or whatever you said, I guess. "i've had to do research on the ramones before, and, in fact, they admitted to writing their songs about whatever they thought would shock or offend people. so fuck you. have you met them? "'Imagine the Ramones without the outrageousness, the Clash without the pretension or attempts at artistic statement.' Baby, I'm An Anarchist is probably the best song on this album. "Imagine the Ramones without the outrageousness, the Clash without the pretension or attempts at artistic statement." I agree with the bit about the first sentence, but this isn't too bad of a review, on the whole; and the album is classic, some of the most genuine and heartfelt music I've ever heard (not that Eternal Cowboy isn't, it's just that they're different) theres not a chance i have the attention span to read this whole review. although i agree with the score.. That first sentence is horribly worded. Proofread. BSD Should Bendover now. Time to insert the fat black dildo straight up your mud geyser. FIRST ! sucks! overrated! |
