Explosions in the Sky have created a beautiful piece of art. The music is sweeping and monumental. 5 songs span 43 minutes, and when it ends you'll be wishing for more. Passion and melodies pour from the speakers whether the songs are a bare whisper or a loud roar. And every song contains equal parts whisper and roar.

Every song rises and falls from one end of the spectrum to the other; hushed and soothing one minute and loud and rushing the next. The build ups and let downs of the music are incredible, and the entire album flows oh so smoothly. Each song bleeds into the other, but in a good way. Everything doesn't blend together to sound like one giant song.

This album says so much more without lyrics than most bands say in their lifetimes. Every minute of this album is glorious, I found myslef closing my eyes and just drifting away numerous times. But you won't drift to far because there will always be a wall of guitars and drums to keep you from going to far. Whether you enjoy instrumental music or not, give this a try, you may be surprised.

hahahaha...oh man that's great. anytime pitchfork fucks up i'm happy. damn pedantic bastards.

    inagreendase (January 26, 2004)

"there is no song called "this plane will crash tomorrow". That phrase is printed inside on the cd jacket"

Oh, sorry about that slipup then. Blame pitchfork, that's where I first heard my misinformation.

    jheisel (January 26, 2004)

This score is for this album, which is now being pirated in Russia, thanks to me.

This review, unfortunately, blew - but don't let that stop you from picking this up!

    Matt81 (January 26, 2004)

not to be a picky asshole, but there is no song called "this plane will crash tomorrow". That phrase is printed inside on the cd jacket. on the same page is a plane flying over a blood red sky with soldiers below holding rifles. i think they had that phrase printed on stickers too, which they had placed all over their equipment making their trip back home from europe (where they were when september 11th occured) all the more diffilcult. probably didn't help that one of the band member's name is Munaf Rayani either. in case you can't tell i have an unhealthy obsession with this band ;-)

    GreenVandal (January 25, 2004)

    Hahahahahaha

im sorry, i cant take anything this dude say seriously. All i can think when I read his name is, "Was the boy he used to be as big of a cry baby as this one?"

    "Plane"*

    inagreendase (January 24, 2004)

This band creeps me the FUCK out all because of the coincedence surrounding the fact that a band called Explosions in the Sky released their debut album on September 10th, 2001, and with a song called "This Place Will Crash Tomorrow."

    I get literal chills.

    Andy_Kaufman (January 24, 2004)

This is a very sexy band and a very sexual album

    I like it alot.

I'm confused why this is here, but that doesn't stop me from saying this album slays.

    Anonymous (January 24, 2004)

i know everyone hates the name, but I would set myself on fire for you have some songs that are very godspeed-esque. i know atleast one of them is up on hxcmp3.com. it's called "the first word that comes to mind". i think theres a couple more too.
    give it a try.

this album fucking owns. "first breath after come" is so intense.i

My first breath after come is usually pretty intense, too.

    FortyMinutesWest (January 24, 2004)

Relay, I was expecting to see your name at the bottom of this review, you're slacking.

    travis (January 23, 2004)

yes, maserati is great. their split with the mercury program released last year is fantastic.

and explosions in the sky get a 9. they fucking own.

    relay1112 (January 23, 2004)

Just got this album... It's reaaaaaally good. If you aren't into the whole post-rock Godspeed You! Black Emperor thing, give these guys a try. They're a lot easier to handle.

    Anonymous (January 23, 2004)

I've got their other album. Veeeerrrry nice. Anybody heard Maserati?

    Anonymous (January 23, 2004)

Hot damn, I didn't expect this to be reviewed here. This album kicks ass.

The first two songs are so incredibly good (and everything else rocks too).

I'd like to add that I'm not really a big instrumental rock guy, but these guys have such an amazing grasp of melody (not jammy at all).

    Anonymous (January 23, 2004)

this album fucking owns. "first breath after come" is so intense.

    FortyMinutesWest (January 23, 2004)

I can't listen to this band all the time, but if I'm in the right mood I dig it. The reviewer's name is still hilarious.

    Anonymous (January 23, 2004)

explosions in the sky are amazing. truely amazing. they deserve to have that word describe them and their beautiful music. i love this.

    -greyicewater

    relay1112 (January 23, 2004)

I'm going to pick this up in a couple minutes. Peace.

    ElVaquero (January 23, 2004)

wasn't this reviewer voted off the site or something?

    Matt81 (January 23, 2004)

Truly a great cd and a great band. The BEST live act i've ever seen.

    Anonymous (January 23, 2004)

this album, does, in fact, rule.
