| Circle Takes The SquareAs The Roots Undo2004 Robotic Empire

An introduction of haunting whistles in "The Same Shade as Concrete" is chaotically destroyed when the screams of "Rejoice, rejoice, a noble birth, a prince is born!" enter with chaotic drumming, amazing guitar work and dual male/female screaming vocals go to work. At first I would consider this band hardcore, but to limit them to such a genre is unfair. Throughout every song there are numerous shifts in tone, beat, and influence. The album continues with older songs "Crowquill" and "In The Nervous Light of Sunday", both amazing anthems, with "Nervous..." having multiple parts where you just can't stop yourself from screaming along to the incredibly written lyrics. "Interview At The Ruins" shows a different side of the band, keeping the song slow and intense, with much shorter lyrics, but just as powerful as every other song on the album. Repeating guitars and double-bass buildups leave you wanting to keep every song on repeat, if it weren't for the fact the next song will be just as good. "Non Objective Point Of Karma" begins with a few minutes of repetition and buildup, ending in a slaughter of screaming guitars and voices. The duality of the male/female screaming comes into play a lot throughout the album, and the vocals are done in a superb manner. "Kill The Switch" has to be my favorite song on the album, a 9:35 non-stop anthem, with the intensity of the bass-kicking and the lyrics "Life is lowly / lowly anonymity. I know it's all been done before / I want to do it again..." building up to great guitar breakdowns and finally the anthemic "As in sorrow / so shall ye weep / as in reason / so shall ye sleep" ending the song with fists pumping in the air. "A Crater to Cough In" rounds out the effort very nicely, with a sensibility reminiscent of "Karma," but less electronic influence in the intro.
I could go on and on about how genious this album is, but all I can do is recommend finding some MP3's (I believe Robotic Empire's site has one up) and checking them out for yourself. After seeing them in house shows and small clubs, I really hope this album becomes the explosive hit of the punk community in 2004, because it has all the potential for that job. Lyrically and musically amazing and crafted masterfully, Circle Takes The Square will be your new favorite band.

Great people in person. Awesome passion and energy behind the songs. But that doesn't take away from the fact that bad emocore bad metal = bad music. It's essentially Portraits of Past meets Palatka. Eh. this is the greatest shit no doubt kill the switch is one of my fav songs ever. go kill yourself, colin. Awesome album, I love CTTS, my only problem is that I can't find any other bands that sound like them. I love their sound and Fear Before the March of Flames, but these bands are so original its hard to find other bands like them to listen to as well. After all the same 6 or 7 songs get boring... Any Help? This album is perfect. The Best Album From Circle Takes The Square Very well made good music that you can relate to this isnt music this is beautiful art! maybe its because i'm not really into prog-rock, but i just don't get it.. it's fantastic all-around music, but i know that CTTS has something going. guess whats good One of the best releases in the past 5 years, vocals are passionate, guitar work amazing, hard not to get caught up in the music. I love this band and will follow them avidly. Thanks to CB (RY) for introducing me to them. Look forward to future releases. This is some of the best music i have ever heard. the lyrics are amazing and the guitar is undiscribable. Although i think its great and there are lots of people that do to not everyone will like it Its one of the last bands i really got blown away by, which really hasn't happend in about 6 years now, so Circle Takes The Square is without a doubt one of 2004 best bands out there! despite many bands sharing their art-core vein, i give this band props for originality and an A for passion, with excellent guitar work throughout. Unfortunately, the vocals are a complete caucophany and put this album in the category of 'acquired tastes.' I couldnt say if the lyrics or the music is better. Best release of this Decade. By far. Incredible album. Topping 'best of '04' lists everywhere. Er, it should be. No one mentioned yet that this band is only a 3-piece. This album sucks. Kill yourself! this cd is one of the best i heard its so kick ass What can I say? haha, that was a good review "Circle is better than you. Seriouly." This has to be one of the most clever, well played and simply best album of all times. Don't hesitate - buy today! The reviewer pretty much says everything you need to know about this band... They're fucking awesome, go get this cd if you don't have it yet. Holy shit, I just listened to two songs and it's off the hook more than Jenna Jameson's work phone [weak, I know]. But this is seriously great stuff, it's like if Conor Oberst sang for the Blood Brothers. this reminds you of the locust??? this is my #1 most anticiapted release, that siad, I still haven't heard it. bummer. hey fatty Score's for the kid a few posts down, trying to get in a cheap promotion of his band on the review of an actual established band. For shame, sir! I heard this band a long time ago and don't remember liking them. Upon second listen, they're not bad, but they're not as amazing as all of you think. The mp3s of this band are amazing. I usually don't get into this sort of stuff but this is great shit. this is a perfect record you might like my band if you like ctts, This album gives me seizures and i'm not epileptic. hey guys Good review Colin. CTTS is just, for lack of a better word, awesome. Not only are they a really great band, but they're extremely nice and humble kids who really care about their fans. And they all do amazing artwork outside of their music. Oh yeah. Someone review the 'Some Girls' cd. Way to be modest. 'houdini logic' was on their first ep that they put out in 2002 (i think)... Fuck yes. This score is for the name of the band. I will be picking this up very soon, great review. I listened to a couple of the mp3's, and while it was pretty good musically, I just can't get into it cause of one of the guys voice. i hate everything on robotic empire. So fucking good I've been waiting for this cd for soooo long This CD makes me insane!! Its frantic, its heavy, its great. man. . .but where does the song "houdini logic" come from? The mp3s on hxcmp3 sound kind of like Majority Rule, just more chaotic and with the dueling vocalist vibe... nothing but good things can be said about this band and album. "Circle circle, dot dot, now i have my cootie shot." I think this album was leaked on the internet before they even began recording it. I want to hear this. I've heard nothing but good things about this band. this shit fucking destroys. Ctts haven't been cool for at least 6 months Robitic Empire is better than you and so is Circle Takes The Square The CD case is amazing btw, and the artwork is done by the male singer in the band.... dont get me wrong this album definitely does rip.. i kinda think they might do even better in future releases though What a great intro though. I gotta get this cd. |
