The one thing you will realize from the very first track is that this album is HEAVY. It seems that The Deftones have replaced the quiet mellow sections of White Pony in favor of heavy metallic guitars. Not to say this is a bad thing. Stephen Carpenter still retains one of the most distinctive styles in modern metal and I still think that his guitar has some of the most dense and full, yet wonderfully clear distortion. But don’t be fooled, these heavy sections aren’t just stupid two chord nu-metal chuga-chuga style, the guitars hit you with a metallic thud and then fall back with a melodic shimmering after taste that you can’t help but fall in love with.

Score's for that song. I hate the Deftones, though. dont care what other people say, I, myself, in the posession of my spirit and soul think they are lame and if a band that I like says the deftones are cool, I dont care, at least I can fuckin think...out of step with the world i find it funny that all these true "punks" rag on the Deftones, where is if you were to ask any of the punk bands that they worship their opinions on the Deftones, most likely you would hear that they at least respect the Deftones.....or *gasp* even like them even up to the current cd this is the almighty devildog Im not bitching over whether or not the deftones are good. "Minerva" was *incredible* live, too. Totally blew me away. You are right most of the stuff that is reviewed here is not punk and thats a shame. why is not there a review in the whole of the review archives for Born Against???? Half Mast is one of the most incredible songs i have ever heard. all people who like deftones are gay mtv fans who like to suck ass. I waited until I saw it used. I'm perfectly happy to have paid $8 instead of $20 it's sad how so many of you slept on this album. Boo hoo. So its not punk. Hexagram and Anniversary are by far the best on this one. And fuck you if you don't think this review belongs on this site. Go start your own, whiny bitches. I like this, but nearly as much as the White Pony. That one is just amazing I used to rock out to Adrenaline a long time ago. Since then I haven't really followed this band. i was dissapointed with this one after the greatness that was white pony. i still think i should give it another listen though. the deftones do belong here. whoever said they don't doesn't belong here. Worst album this year. Chino sounds like a crying teenybopper who feels so alone. Thought this record BLEW ASS. Awful, waste of my $15. The record just ends, there's no real climax to the songs I think. They're too straightforward at times, imo. Yeah, around the fur is a lot better. I used to LOVE the Deftones, and they are one of the few bands in their genre that I still listen to on occasion. Anyone remember when they went on tour with POD and Linkin Park ? I was there, and I got to go backstage and meet Chino, and on the way back I saw the members of Linkin Park, and they didn't have a dressing room, which was no big deal, but when I got to the Deftones room, it was monstrous, and so I laughed. I laughed at Linkin Park. It was funny. Now they've sold out the Toyota Center here in Houston. Scary huh ? i like the deftones but seriously, i thought this was a punknews.org. i don't think there's any way you can argue that they're a punk band in any shape or form. now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to give this site some credibility and review good charlotte's cd coming out later this year. This doesn't belong here. around the fur owns every other album deftones has done eh. deftones are one of my favorite bands but this one just seemed a bit lost. i believe the wall of sound effect is an appopriate description for this record (especially minerva) and it works well in some places but in other places it falls flat on its face. this is their worst record but its still got a few gems. anniversary was a nice surprise. Fuck this record, I'm reviewing "Around the Fur". the only deftones cd i really really ever liked was adrenaline. i didn't listen to white pony because i had a sucky burned copy. poop IS THIS ALTROCKNEW.ORG NOW? |
