After skimming through the various reviews I was quite suprised not to see D4, "Versus God" reviewed yet. First off, I'm not the biggest fan of Hopeless Records. Most of their bands just don't appeal to my tastes, so I was naturally reluctant when someone first told me about D4. To be honest, I didn't really dig "Midwestern Songs of the Americas" too much. It was a strong album with some decent songs, but nothing for me to write home about. So this brings me to "Versus God". Before I start, let me remove this size 11 foot from my mouth. This is in my opinion the best release of 2000. The album starts with 'Who didn't kill Bambi?', which sets off the album with crunching guitars and drum work that will have you stomping through the floor of your cheap ass apartment. The 2 best songs on the album would probably have to be 'Last Communion' and 'Suckers Intl. Has Gone Public'. Both have that attitude and rock-out quality, that I, as well as many others look for in songs. I could go through and tell a little about each song, but that is a little too mundane. I think the best concept of the album are the samples used before and after tracks. This is some of the funniest shit I've ever heard. Everything from televangelists to video game excerts, it works as a great intro/outro to the songs. To make a long story short, buy this album. Pawn something, steal something or do what you must to get the money, Just buy it...or you suck. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
I'm gonna come right out and say it here. I think Dilinger Four and Propagandhi are the best punk bands ever. This album gets twenty stars from me. Best D4 album ever. I'm gonna go see them again in March. Everyone in this band may be fuck ugly, but their all really smart, the drumer has a PhD in something that has to do with the brain, Only problem I have with this record is that its so Erik-centered. Billy and Paddy are only on a few songs. who gives a shit what the singer looks like, this band is fucking amazing. dillinger four sucks, the vocal suck, he's fat, ugly, and he sings soooooooooooooooooooo bad, this cd goes in the trash! then burn the trash can! Raise a glass to years gone past Fuck yea some people who actualy like D4! This is my all time favorite band right here. Alot of people cant get down with them cause their not this polished up radio freindly band. I thrive on their albums though. The first 2 I agree were their best, but still VS. God kicks some ass. yeah they are on fat now. great band but they weren't the best on hoepless. that award would have to go to against all authority. i had to order this album cos no stores carried it in town, and when i got it i immediately compared it to midwestern cos that album was soo good. it didn't live up to my expectations, i don't think i've listened to it more than 3 times, but i remember it being pretty decent, but not fantastic. Maximum Piss and Vinegar's my favorite song by them ever---so great Midwestern Songs... is much better than this. Best D4 song is Superpowers Enable Me to Blend in with Machinery. Actually, they just got signed to Fat. This shit is genius. I've owned this and Midwestern Songs Of Americas for ages now and while I really like them a lot, I still haven't figured them out. I couldn't name a single D4 song if I wanted or hum any of their songs. It's not like they're really complex technically, musically this is straight punk rock. It must be the song titles.. I heard a rumor that they are heading to Epitaph, has anyone else heard this? Dillinger 4- best band on hopeless by far, one of the best punk rock bands around at the moment, thats for sure. D4 is the most under-rated punk band out there they rock, great cd, nuff said. |
