We made our way to the Opera House Tuesday night amidst a sea of Bane and FATA hoodies. My lady friend apparently needed coffee, so suffice to say we were near the back of the line to enter the venue when we arrived around 7. Standing next to a hulking bro in a With Honor hoodie, I got smirked for my AtDi hoodie. Anyways, we made our way into the venue with my friend getting her camera taken away in the process.

Due to the aforementioned coffee run, we missed about half of Silverstein's set. I did like what I heard though. I had listened to their latest album, When Broken is Easily Fixed and I wasn't impressed. But live these fellow Canadians were much better, with a small little fan base that screamed every word. To me, they seemed like a harder version of your typical Used clone (i.e. Story of the Year) with their clean vocals and perfectly timed screams. The crowd was appreciative though and I saw quite a few people grab some of their merch once their short set finished. Also, the lead singer looked a lot like Dustin from Thrice and my friend thought he was hot if that makes any difference.

Most Precious Blood was up next. I had never heard any of their material before tonight, so I wasn't expecting too much. I was blown away. These guys (and girl, Rachel is one of their guitarists) had tons of energy and really knew how to work the crowd. I couldn't help but get into their songs, which they played around 7 of. The one gripe I had, was that I wasn't that big on their screamer. He wasn't as loud as I would have liked and was often drowned out by the music. Overall though, a great set and MPB gained a fan in me that night.

Hopesfall. These are the guys I came to see. After the short introduction of "Hi, we're hopesfall" they immediately burst into "Only the clouds." With no break at all in between, they went into "Waitress." The lead singer (whose name I actually don't know) apologized for being a little sick. I didn't notice his ailment at all, he hit almost every scream perfectly and had great crowd interaction, leaping into the crowd and singing every word with them. They played my favorite, "The Bending", and even threw in a new song (which admittedly, I didn't think was too spectacular but I'm still optimistic about the upcoming album). They utilized material from both The Satellite Years and the No Wings To Speak Of EP. While the other bands were a lot of fun to listen to, at times Hopesfall was just awe-inspiring. Melodic hardcore at its finest. They also played "Decoys Like Curves," "The End Of An Era" and closed with "April Left With Silence."An amazing set from the North Carolina boys.

Finally, the headliners From Autumn to Ashes took the stage. They actually played some AtDi during their setup so I looked around for the gargantuan fool to exact a revenge smirk, but alas I couldn't find him. Anyways, FATA played roughly the same amount of songs off both Too Bad You're Beautiful and the weaker The Fiction We Live. I enjoyed a few songs from their set, but never really got into them. Honestly, the singing parts just ruin most of the songs for me. Both "Capeside Rock" and "Cherry Kiss" from Too Bad You're Beautiful were well played though, as was "The After Dinner Playback" off their latest album. At one point the drummer and singer, Fran, came out front to sing a song alone which wasn't completely terrible, but they are definately weaker without the screaming. My friend thought they were amazing, but I went off to buy another Hopesfall shirt near the end of their set.

Overall it was a great show and well worth the price of admission. Silverstein were better than I expected. Most Precious Blood was an awesome suprise. Hopesfall was as amazing as I expected and FATA had their moments.

I'm rather jealous, I was planning on making that show by I had no ride at the time into Toronto.

I agree FATA new album is medocre to say the least. I just picked up to bad your beautiful and really FATA should have quit will they were ahead. But I guess , the decided to move to a little more emo-ish flavour on there new album. Meh... whatever.

I just started getting into Hopefall and I realy like them. Luck you for seeing them live.

FATA sucks now. The new album is awful, i like 3 songs. They are a fuckin emo band. This score is my respect for fata

Anonymous (April 1, 2004)

fata's drummer/singer needs to be relieved of his singing duties forever. that would up the band to mild suckiness.

Anonymous (April 1, 2004)

they let fucking Fran sing WAY too much on the new album

Actually, the biggest problem with their new album is the fact that they released that garbage in the first place.

Icapped2pac (March 31, 2004)

The MPB song "the great red shift" reminds me of early Biohazard. This score's for "Urban Discipline", motherfuckers, and for Hopesfall. I just hope it's FATA that get all their shit stolen on this tour.

Anonymous (March 31, 2004)

most precious blood sucks now. indecision fucking owned.

Anonymous (March 31, 2004)

I LOVE .hopesfall. but they just didn't do it for me live either time I saw them for some reason...FATA puts on quite an amazing show however, dispite what some of you say...tho i have to agree they let fucking Fran sing WAY too much on the new album

Anonymous (March 31, 2004)

FATA Blows.

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

People actually pays money to go see this?

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

i was disappointed that the fullblast changed the name. no one says anything funny anymore

score's for fullblast references

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

wow hopesfall is the most underated band on this site.

punkcorekid (March 30, 2004)

FATA needs to die, MAINLY their screamer. That guy is horrible. and fat. nothing against fat guys though. ATDI are sweeter than artificial sugar, you should have ass raped the guy making fun of you. MPB are awesome. And I love .hopesfall. when I need some sing a long hxc. Score's for ATDI, MPB, and .hopesfall. Fuck FATA

GYBE (March 30, 2004)

I love saying hoodie, all those who don't should be tarred and feathered.

dazed (March 30, 2004)

Oh, the hoodie drama! Intense!

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

MPB is so much better than these other bands.

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

To bad the fullblast changed the name of the song and silverstein is no longer part of the song title.

slippy (March 30, 2004)

The score is for ATDI and Hopesfall, because both are sweet, like candy.

inagreendase (March 30, 2004)

"At one point the drummer and singer, Fran, came out front to sing a song alone which wasn't completely terrible"

That had to have been "I'm the Best At Ruining My Life."

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

despite the shittiness of these bands, the review was pretty well written. score is for the review.

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

Hrm... "you came out of the closet and you were wearing a silverstein hoodie" anyone? anyone?... boo.

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

Most Precious Blood's good. I haven't seen them live though.

Minor Threat

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

Agreed, ATDI is quality.

-Strewtho.

porkpie (March 30, 2004)

5 points for mentioning hoodies so much.

same show in london = weak. hopesfall was good though.

inanechild (March 30, 2004)

Every high school girl with dyed black hair and jelly bracelets wears Silverstein shirts around here.

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

I'm still not bored of this style of music...what's wrong with me? When its done well it rips.
Can't believe someone would make fun of the ATDI hoodie!

-bemused-
(score's for ATDI)

Anonymous (March 30, 2004)

I can't wait to see this lineup in Toledo on Wednesday. This review makes me look forward to it even more.

ThornInSide (March 30, 2004)

Silverstein are 5 super nice guys as well, if you ever have the chance to speak with them.
