Musical taste is a subjective matter, and no one persons taste is exactly the same as anothers, and believe it or not, it can even be different. Its called individuality, something that most of you on this site can't begin to comprehend. and ok, if you're not content with people having different tastes, then don't post your pussy ass bullshit on a forum. Hi, I don't have an account so i can't log in, but this is Chris (bass player for the band that many of you are bashing).

First of all ensign is awsome, I agree. We don't play that kind of hardcore and we listen to a lot of "fast hardcore."
Its all hardcore, doesn't matter.

Second, we did try and do a DIY tour, but totalled our van after playing to a room of 20 kids in western PA.

Third, blackout doesn't fuck over their bands, they just seem to have trouble supporting them. Case in point, a lot of the advertising that was done for us was in magazines like maximum rocknroll where they hate us, which is fine cause I don't agree with most of them anyway. Also we asked for ads in other magazines and weren't given them. Just shit like that. They also didn't help us out at all with buying a van, maintaining it, or even booking a tour. All this we did on our own (I bought the van with a student loan and then killed the rest of my savings making it run right).

Finally, fuck you and your elitist attitudes. You guys think this shit is easy? We never asked for much and most of what we've done its been on our own. The EP is just our demo mastered, we paid for the recording of that, not the label. I would love to tour the west coast, explain to me where the hell I'm going to get the money to get there and out of debt. I like everyone else in the band hasn't made a fuckin dime off of the band.

To the reviewer of this, I played that show with a broken hand too and the sound in the hall sucked. Thanks for sticking around though.

I'm so sick of these "scene" bands who somehow get signed to an indie, then don't tour and sit at their computer all day telling people how great they are and how horrible the label is because they didn't get a huge bank account and new HumVees a month after the cd came out. I see this crap all the time. Yeah, labels can suck, yes they sell a product that is derived from your "art" (and in this case, I use the word loosely), but you know what, when was the last time these guys (or for that matter, any of these NYC/Jersey bands) come and played for us over on the West Coast?
A band who hasn't done more than one DIY national tour before they even got to release a CD deserves to be treated like shit, because they're blowing a chance that many of us would kill for because they're lazy, spoiled bitches.
It takes more than being a 3rd rate Bleeding Through rip-off to be a rock star. If you're label's treating you like shit, why don't you just be happy you even HAVE a label. That's the game you entered, stop being a spioled moron and tell your friends to shut the fuck up when they feel like being the "insider" on the web.

"There must be something in the water in Hoboken, New Jersey. Listening to the latest offering from The Banner leads you to suspect that it might just be blood. The album's opener Zombie Onslaught sets the scene, starting as it does with a sample of a news report telling of cannibalistic murders. Death, destruction, murder, terror, zombies - these are the subjects dealt with by The Banner and their songs. At least, that is what they would have us believe. I'm not entirely convinced . . .

Though Zombie Onslaught and Apocolypse are largely self-explanatory and in keeping with the themes above, to explain the main theme of the rest of this album requires me to use a particularly offensive four-letter word that you're simply not supposed to use when referring to extreme metalcore: Love. Yep, this album - despite the deceptive title of Your Murder Mixtape - is essentially a love album. Sure, it may be the kind of love that invariably ends in violence or murder, but it's love nonetheless.
Take I Found Your Diary for example, the tale of a lover spurned: "I've read your stories sweetheart and I fear there's one chapter left, I know the ending baby, I've wrote it down inside my head, and red's the ink shade darling, and when I've said forever, I've never been so wrong." Bless. Or Black Duct Tape, seemingly about another spurning at the hands of a cruel female: "I took that bitch down to the river, made princess a castle in the mud, you'll find six sharp knives in the water, and black duct tape soaked in her blood." If only Trisha had been around.
Another theme running through some of the album's other tracks - Skies Go Black, Die Fighting, Night Of The Rope - is that of oppression, and being crushed by it or fighting back against it.
Whatever the subject, pretty much every track on Your Murder Mixtape is really well put together, and the album as a whole works really well. A fantastic blend of guitars, drums and the odd well-placed sample accompanies the furiously vivid lyrics - brilliantly delivered by lead vocalist Joey Southside - and the whole affair is made all the more listenable by superb production.
Though first impressions might (wrongly) lead to the dismissal of The Banner as a gimmicky metal outfit with nothing of any real substance to offer, Your Murder Mixtape is a genuinely good album, and well worth a listen. Fucking great . . .

a. If blackout screwed their bands you could substantiate it, rather than hiding behind anonymity. You posted the same thing on the Commercials video news page. Maybe you're someone who has a beef, but not the backup to really make a public case. Bring it, don't sing it, coward.

b. The Banner are getting hype because people actually like them. Maybe your band isn't so lucky. Or maybe you're like the typical new softcore kid who's an IM toughguy.

I downloaded that mp3 thinking I prob wouldnt like it. I actually thought it was ok. Some of the parts kinda reminded me of older gainesville type bands played a little heavier. The vocals get kinda borng but i can handle it. prob wouldnt buy the cd but wouldnt mind listening to it if it was on somewhere.

Im not going to lie, these guys are awful. Their singer is terrible. Not just bad, but terrible.

What happened to hardcore? No one wants to be hardcore anymore. Everyone wants to be metalcore or emocore or ridiculouslybadcore. What happened to 2 minute ridiculously fast songs where a singer shouts at you. Man I hate new school hardcore.

Side Note: I cant wait for the new Ensign CD whenever it comes out. Those guys kick ass.
