 Published on May 14th 2004 Normally, the band Rookie revels in its self-proclamation of a pop-punk style that basically rips off Midtown. So, the band decided that just in case they’re ever noticed by Drive-Thru, they already have one-sixth of their contractual obligations fulfilled with this acoustic EP. Eye-rollingly derivative of (better) projects like Saves the Day’s I’m Sorry I’m Leaving and The Starting Line’s Make Yourself Home, but slower, Rookie provide something to cry yourself to sleep to at night, if nothing else. The lead vocalist swaps tracks for the four-song disc with another band member. The whiny vocals on several parts in “Callahanian Morning” reach nasal proportions, but I’ll be damned if the sophomoric chorus line of “promises I made to you / they all mean nothing now / and when I say I love you / you rip my heart right out” wasn’t stuck in my head after just a listen or two. The same vocalist sings the strongest track, “I Pleeed Da Fif,” two songs later and it’s definitely an improvement within the EP itself. The surprise screams echoing the “hold me down” line work oddly well. Weird how both things worked out, but they get major points for the Chapelle Show reference. It was only recorded in a day or so, and not exactly on the most professional quality, so their leeway is granted there. But in future endeavors, better things could potentially come. I thought that there were only 4 kids in the band...who is this matt kid???? I think I Pleeed da FIF is a really good song. I dont know, its bad that bad. I like this alot, I dont mine the vocals at all besides the fact you can tell them recorded it themself. I thought these boards were to talk about the music. Anyway I dont think its that bad I put Callahanian Morning on my sleep mix. i hate to ruin the surprise but it's crap. Wow your not funny any more the person making all the personal comments to the members of Rookie is the same person, so stoping being a bitch, get over the fact that he doesn't like you.... Anyway I cant wait to hear the full band stuff this summer! Same person making the same comments ...its old you people saying you 'heart rookie' are either in the band, or tone deaf... or both. so also most everyone on purevolume is an a-hole .... i think your an a-hole ..get over yourself .. See ya early I said: Love IT!!!! play at the sad again This EP is crazy its a Huge change from the sound-alike pop-punk they use to I can't wait to see them back in derry with the new line up This Ep is crazy and I see a bright future for them, after this summer I'm sure they'll have so much more experience and be able to play with some big names when they go on tour. > I dont know why every one is dissing the nasally singer the one who sings the Social song can hit a note if his life depended on it ...... boys go to a studio so they can fix it. this band would be so much better if the vocals didn't sound horrible. they are nothing special but i have heard others use the word "potential" which sounds fitting. keep up the work this summer aand keep that nasaly singer away from the mic. these guys either a) need to go totally instrumental like "explosions in the sky" and totally change their style OR b) hide the singers voice behind a dissonant wall of distortion. This is one of the most breathtaking albums to ever come out in punk. For once a band comes along that allows us to shed from our toughguy images. Its ok to respect true musical talent, and allow yourself to show your true emotions and desires. hey guy right below me, don't be so down, i'm sure you'll eventually get each members dick surgically removed from your mouth and/or anus soon, i can't wait for you to feel better. keep up the awesome doucheyness!!! Hey guys dont even worry about these people, they dont that you guys all go to seperate colleges and you guys were only able to do this whole thing in a day and record its yourselfs. They were prolly sitting right where they are now in front of their computers bitching about something. Any way i love you guys and I cant wait to see you guys play again. Its funny how most of the people who visit sites like this have no talent at all (including the stuff). It was seems to be the talentless ones to cast the first stone. Critics since day one have usually been the people who couldn't hack it themselves,and need to find away to make themselves feel good about the fact that they cant do what they have wanted to. Another unoriginal piece of steaming feces. Clownsuit Barmitzvah's acoustic album will kill this. matt you need to give it up. your band is horrible. cry me a fukin river dude...this shit sux....It didnt make me want to cry it made me laugh because they acually take them selves serious..thanx for putting me in a good mood guys it ain't nothin special. do they have fun, isn't that what it's about?
