Reviews

You know those silly modern teen movies that strive so hard to be the next American Pie? Those redundant films that show a group of attractive friends graduating from high school during the opening scene, which fades into the HUGE party that night that EVERYONE has been invited to. Hot girls, dancing, beer, beer, beer, and an unbearable pop-punk band playing on a stage in the backyard. How come the cops never break up these damn things?

Anyways, Never Heard of It (NHOI) is that band.

They’re boring, uninspired, and don’t possess a pinch of originality in their veins. Steve Gryphon (Avril Lavigne, Sugarcult, Lisa Marie Presley) produced this hunk of garbage…what makes you think these guys are really a “punk” band?

Opening up 11 Days is a loud, catchy pop-punk wonder, “Let’s Go All The Way” pleads to be played between Bowling For Soup and Jessica Simpson on the “Top Eight @ 8:00.” You can’t even tell when the songs switch as “Hard Headed” begins, it sounds identical to the previous one, only with a signature Good Charlotte breakdown and some “Na Na Na’s” ala Blink 182. “This Is Goodbye” seriously sounds like a cover song from Punk Goes Pop, but no these guys actually wrote this and are proud of it. Their press release beams like their 12 year old fan base’s nipples on a chilly winter’s night boasting their “accomplishments” which range from providing burritos to the bands at Warped Tour ’03 and owning a 35’ RV.

By the time I got to track four I couldn’t take it anymore! These guys rip off every damn cliché in the genre. If Simple Plan wasn’t already rolling in the Benjamin’s they banked off of MTV I’m sure they could sue NHOI flat out for plagiarism. If you see this in a store, look away. If this makes its way on to MTV one day, hold your years and close your eyes. If someone offers you this disc to review for a zine, turn and run as fast as you can!

    My Score:

NHOI are awesome live, they played most of this album and I loved it. I now have the album and it's great!
They're nice guys, really energetic and sure, not original, but who really cares? At least you can sing along when you listen to it!
Stop dissing the decent bands and get back to your flower arranging!

    Your so full of shit!!
NHOI are actually a talented catchy tuned band and of cource there are going to be people like you who take music so seriously that everything has to be classified into strict groups. Dont tell people not to buy there cd or listen to them because thats just your simple minded opinion, classifying pop punk as terrible and as you said 'wannabe american pie bands' I like them so stuff you and your stupid ideas, coz you probably dont have 1 single ounch of talent! Critizise when you do mate...

They're an awesome band... And everyone who's taken 5 mins out of there day (attention to all the comments above and below) who say that NHOI sucks... well they just have way too much time on there hands and are so misserable with there own lives they want to make everyone elses f'd up too.
NHOI's got some talent... and they've done an awesome job at promoting their album's and they've came a long way in just the past year... People should recognize that.

As a proud follower of good NYHC (East Coast in general, but anyway), I can tell you with certainty that PTW are about as NYHC as an enema of chlorine.

You're either a 13 year old girl, or a guy in his twenties who dates 13 year old girls. Which is fitting, because that's the only reason bands like this exist.

man you are a fucking moron. these guys aren good, i could care less if they are "pop punk" or not because i can appreciate good pop punk. but i live in souther california (where they are from) i have seen them many times, and i know them as people and know what assholes they are. i know that they suck live and do not put on an enjoyable show. they havent gotten anywhere in the music scene on their own merit. everything they have mommy and daddy paid for, even their sold out shows

you obviously have no idea what you are talking about, so please do the rest of us a favor and shut the fuck up

You guys are such stupid idiots. These guys deserve big ups for making in the music industry. While I am more into the NYHC Scene like Madball and Poison The Well (i know they arent from NY but I still consider them to be NYHC to the fullest bc they are so good), you still have to respect these guys talent. They can flat out play and put on a truly enjoyable live experience. I love how everyone makes fun of little kids, but half of you that are talking mad smack are still in high school.

These guys are the biggest morons ever. I tried to tell them this shit had already been done, but they were determined to "make waves in the industry". Yeah. Great big waves guys. How 'bout the fact that all these guys are all like 30, but yet they act, talk, and look as if they were still in high school? 12 year olds are the average fan base? Need I go on?

the only thing they have accomplished is being born into rich families. they havent done shit besides ask mommy and daddy for money to pay for everything (like half the tickets to their "sold out" show at the glasshouse, which everyone left after the other bands so no one was there for them)

i hate this band with a passion. they dont deserve shit and have not earned shit

    My Score:

Masses of English kids would love this shit, seeing as it's a shitty mimicry of a sound that's been done before by bands that also sucked. This isn't "pop-punk", this isn't "pop-rock", those are two styles that are basically pop with "edge", "edge" being creative lyrics or rockin' guitar riffs. The only thing I can describe this as is "radio rock".

This is the age of DIY radio rock and taking bands for purely superficial value. Right now they are building up "street cred" with DIY releases (on such a wide scale one would think they'd have to have a lot of money), so the people who don't like to admit they love pop will say these guys are true to the "spirit of punk" or something corny. Then they'll sign to Epic or Drive-Thru and you'll all be asking "how did they get signed??? They were totally DIY!".

"DIY" means more than just having the cash to make and distribute your own music, it also entails a certain care-free, independent (not indie) approach to the music you make... I've heard really bad DIY bands before, but they were doing their own thing. Do you honestly think these guys are doing their own thing? Do you think anything besides money/pussy would entise anybody over 15 to play music like Simple Plan?

i think the reason bands like this make a big deal about being DIY is because the audience they are selling this to probably has never heard of such a thing, and they are claiming it like they invented DIY.

I love how they boast about doing everything diy. Yeah, I've never heard of a band doing shit diy before! Maybe the reason they do everything themselves is because they suck too much to get a label interested in supporting them. Oh, and what's up with the singer being a model in such "punk" magazines as Alternative Press? Anyone else see his ads for that piercing company or the clothing one? God he looks like a stylist dressed him to be "the" punk/emo poster boy. Oh wait, they're diy so I guess that douchebag made himself look all pretty like that. uck this shit.

Although I agree that they may not be the most original, they are good at what they do and you cant deny them that. I think its funny how just because something is "pop-punk" everyone automatically trashes it. Learn to take music for what it is, judge it on how its done and in what vein they are doing it in. Sure they are pretty sugar coated, but thats what pop punk is; Its made to get stuck in your head, hence why its "pop" before "punk".

    ------------------------------------------------------ ------

There's a difference between sugar-coated and artificially sweetened to the point of inducing diabetes, all for the sake of selling out. Digger is pop-punk, NHOI is just aweful. I'm surprised this band is still around.

You gave it a 10. What the fuck ? Also, the line about Simple Plan is inaccurate, these guys have been kicking around in obscurity for at least 5 years. I used to go see them when they played with Dynamite Boy seems like every month back in my pop-punk phase. You may not like their music, but their constant touring and nonstop DIY marketing can't be denied. But, in conclusion, this CD sucks, the last one sucked, and this band still hasn't grown up from 5 fucking years ago.
