When I picked up the seminal Give 'em the Boot compilation in high school, I thought I had found heaven. It turned me on to nearly every band I currently hold in high regard, and remains a constant favorite. It had memorable tracks from amazing ska and reggae acts, and some extremely potent punk forces as well. One of these was the amazing song "Fifteenth and T", by the Swingin' Utters. From this song, and "The Next In Line" from one of the Fat Wreck comps, I went on to purchase A Juvenile Product of the Working Class and have been hooked ever since. Now the Utters release a long overdue high quality representation of their live show, and I'm incredibly stoked.

All I say is listen to 'Five Lessons Learned', 'Expletive Deleted' and 'Windspitting Punk' before you doubt this album or this band. 'eat a bag of dicks' hahahaha awesome dustin diamond from Saved by the Bell is the biggest fag in the world - swingin' utters rocks harder than Kiss in '76 "Seems like people such as yourself would only enjoy gerneric sounding bands like Youth Brigade. I've seen the utters perform a handful of times, and were as always, amazing. Even if what you said were true about the utters being drunk at that particular show, that still wouldn't justify any of your opionions about them as a band. By reading your comments, you've probrably never even heard a swingin' utters album. Get a life." "You're trying to compare bands that don't really have the same style, therefore, the argument that the Utters are better than the Briggs is pretty irrelevant." I said nearly ten years. And to be honest, it feels like 10 years at this point, everything post high school has run together into a big mess. Post college has done the same thing. Sorry for the lack of perfection. "From this song, and "The Next In Line" from one of the Fat Wreck comps, I went on to purchase A Juvenile Product of the Working Class and have been hooked ever since." This score is for the douche nozzle who said 'nu-emo.' Score is for use of the word stoked. i wanted the entirety of five lessons learned to be played live, so im unfoundedly disappointed. "Dude, the Briggs suck, you honestly think that shit is good, it sounds like some dropkick murphy's crap w/ 3 chords and a singer who has a half an italian hogie stuck in his mouth . Dude, the Briggs suck, you honestly think that shit is good, it sounds like some dropkick murphy's crap w/ 3 chords and a singer who has a half an italian hogie stuck in his mouth . i've seen the utters all over the country and they've never dissappointed me. first time i saw them was at the middle east with bouncing souls and the descendents. they easily matched the other two bands performances. i saw them a couple more times at coney island high (r.i.p.) and they always put on a great show. but here's the clincher... i saw them at the troubador opening for youth brigade and it was pretty obvious to me and a bunch of other people i talked too after the show that they blew youth brigade away that night. and don't get me wrong i really dig youth brigade. I can't believe someone thinks that the Utters are better than Youth Brigade. "if your looking for some straight up punk that isnt that gutter shit only 16 year olds can listen too (like the briggs)" "middle of the road boring crap." People who keep saying the Utters suck obviously just don't get it. I'd honestly like to see some of these folks list bands they like- then maybe we'd all understand why they're so dismissive. "The Utters fucking suck. There. I said it, and I mean it. Swingin Utters are great "Thats a good point, i have met people that are like 'yea the utters are ok' but to say they suck is rediculous. what is there not to like? they are punk, but not all gutter oi offensive. they are poppy but not cheesy or trl poppy. they arent overproduced, they are just like a good standard pop punk, not too extreme in any direction to offend people's taste. they are a good medium of all punk genre's. hard at times but not hard core, poppy but not pop punk, punk but not snotty, rough but not screaming, melodic but not cheesy." The Utters fucking suck. There. I said it, and I mean it. The "Trailer Park" of the Bracket Live CD is great. I'm sure this SW album is great, but BRACKET's "Live in a Dive" album is fucking awesome as well. Someone should start a new website called crappy nu-emo and lame indie rock.com and if you dont like good bands like Swingin Utters, Nofx, orNUFAN, you should just go there. I don't like the Utters because their songs are really predictable, often comparatively slow in tempo, and the lyrics always seem very unambitious and somewhat lazy. "How can anyone not like the Utters? Everybody I've encountered, punk fan or not, loves them when they hear them for the first time. There's not a whole lot of bands around with universal appeal like that. The only other one that springs to mind is Bouncing Souls" I first saw the Swingin' Utters w/ Rise Against & NOFX I only like emotional hardcore. Fuck this pussy shit. "why would you buy this shit. yet another band that needs to give up. They formed in the late 80's... No doubt that they know what they're doing and know about the music, but I don't consider that "old". hate to break it to ya BSD, but the 'Utters ARE old school... They're not bad for a Fat band. That said, this is poppy stuff you've probably heard before, and if you like the Bombshell Rocks and Bouncing Souls a lot (not that they sound like them), you'll like them since the Utters seem to have the "old school", yet lavishly produced sensibilities of the aforementioned bands. The best thing to come out of Santa Cruz. How can anyone not like the Utters? Everybody I've encountered, punk fan or not, loves them when they hear them for the first time. There's not a whole lot of bands around with universal appeal like that. The only other one that springs to mind is Bouncing Souls. Now that's a zine editor for ya... I edited the version you submitted to me Justin :) I hate seeing grammar and spelling mistakes after I submit a review. The words are spelled properly, but not for their usage. Or they are just the wrong words. Dammit. Yeah, I'm going to pick this up soon...I heard "Nowhere Fast" on the new Fat sampler, and was really impressed. this new "emo-core" is pure shit there's no one thing better than this great bands like swinging,NUFAN,lagwagon you are so full of shit how can you say that those bands are shit why would you buy this shit. yet another band that needs to give up. I always love seeing Swingin' Utters live cuz Johnny and Darius are always fun to see live. I have to pick this up becuase the band hardly goes out on the road especially on the east coast. I saw them support NOFX and thought they were pretty good. Seen better but enjoyable. I'd check them out if it was there show :) Score: Heres my review "When I picked up the seminal Give 'em the Boot compilation in high school, I thought I had found heaven. Hopefully this one will change that. Great cd. Something worth mentioning is the comic book that comes with the liner notes. It's patterned after Scooby Doo, and has the Utters being chased by the ghosts of Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone, Sid Vicious and Darby Crash. Of course, just like Scooby Doo, these ghosts end up being people dressed up to scare the Utters away for some reason, but it's still pretty funny. That dude who always gives a list of bands that should break up needs to fuck off now I'm not gonna have anything left to review by the end of the week Scott, haha. I hate live CDs. They nearly always disappoint. why would you buy this shit. yet another band that needs to give up. haven't heard the cd yet, but this score is for their live show. gonna pick it up today. Great band - in fact one of the best on Fat Wreck |
