If you're expecting rap about ladies ala Atmosphere and straight up beats with conventional samples and the same fucking snare pattern rappers have been using since 1983, then don't even listen to this shit. But if you want to listen to some rhymes with fucking amazing images, sweet hooks and futuristic backbeats, then pick it up.
Bazookatooth isn't Aesop's best, though, and his LP Labor Days is probably the best one to pick up first. It's less noisy and the hooks are easier, although the lyrics are just as dense and poetic.

Brother Ali destroys all this shit you kids are talking about. I have no penis. I hope hiphop is the new trend, then people will stop calling me trendy for liking alkaline trio Hahaha...what's even better...this lame review-writing loser has a xanga link in his user profile. Let's all go there and point and laugh at his trendy wannabe loserness. You know what the fuck I'm talking about. Everyone and their mom loves Atmosphere now. Aesop Rock and Mel Gibson and the Pants and even Sage Francis are now getting popular among these indie/punk kids. Fuck this. Sure, I think Sage has got some flow, but this shit isn't hip-hop. This is a distinct emulation of a genre. It's nice to listen to, but I've had enough of indie rock/punk white boys listening to other indie rock/punk white boys trying to rap and thinking that their music tastes are legit. Fuckin stupid kids talkin about shit they don't know anything about. I'm talkin about you Jesse. There is a hip new trend to like hip hop? Like since '85. louis logic, eh? Never heard this, but after reading the comments I'd thought I'd let you know from a reviewer (and friend of Scott's) that one thing he still does is post the reviews. The chorus of Makeshift Patriot is admittedly pretty godawful, but I thought the sublime backdrop and beats made the power of the lyrics stand out a tad more... I don't think it was really a song written with any emphasis on shaking your ass or bobbing your head... Oh, and for those who don't like this 'abstract dogshit', check out Louis Logic's 'Sin-A-Matic'. It's amazing. Also, try listening to Vast Aire's (Can Ox) solo album and tell me that motherfucker's got ANYTHING to say. It wasn't even worth the hard drive space. Yo prankish, though the lyrics may have been prophetic, the beat for "Makeshift Patriot" couldn't have been more uninteresting. He should've hit up DJ Premier or Pete Rock for a remix, then maybe people would've taken notice. Actually my comment was directed at Jesse, who hints at the "hip new trend of liking hip hop" and then goes on to berate Aesop. Is this review garbage? Yes. But that has nothing to do with labeling fans of music you don't appreciate as mere trend whores. I love Aesop Rock. I love Bazooka Tooth. to the comment below: Wow, I love the "punk" mentality: Why is this review so bad? It made me understand or at least have an idea what the music sounds like... that was me, fucking ie needs a few more stars, oh, yeah, this man is managed by my cousin. iss family biitch! "Let me specify - Wu-Tang only made one album - 36 Chambers. I like to pretend that all the other stuff was never recorded. Aesop Rock does indeed rap about girls. Killa Bees wasn't terrible... Let me specify - Wu-Tang only made one album - 36 Chambers. I like to pretend that all the other stuff was never recorded. dope white rappers: lexicon I agree. The Clan is nothing anymore. Might as well say "Dude, give me early era NWA". Jesse, your comment about the Wu might have been relevant about 6 years ago, but now the only ones still holding it down are Ghost & GZA. Meth is a fuckin joke (Tical 0 wasn't even worth the time it took to download), Deck rhymes like fire but fell flat on his face with that last album, U-God hates everybodyelse in the clan now, RZA lost his beatmaking touch a while ago, and Raekwon is still trying to ride off the Cuban Linx rep while making mediocre records. Oh how the mighty have fallen. I like this CD and Aesop Rock. And you should have killed your friend for taking this out to put Anti-Flag in. You guys are mis-directing your anger so allow me to help you; "I'm fucking sick and tired of whiney ass losers thinking they know hip-hop because they listen to a bunch of white boys rap about girls. Fuck this shit. Give me Wu-Tang anyday. Anyone in the Clan could slay this hack in two seconds." Leave it to someone with "Alkaline Trio" in their moniker to write a shitty review for the hip new trend of liking hip-hop. It's like Atmosphere but better? Give me a fucking break. Aesop Rock>Atmosphere aesop is alright. Good labum, fair review. record's great. Wow, I can't believe someone reviewed this on here!! I love this record! I agree. It's unfortunate that this review had to be posted. At first, I was a little excited to see an Aesop Rock review posted on the site. But considering how long ago Bazooka Tooth came out and how this record has presumably grown on most people by now despite the contrast in production style from the last one, I still wasn't expecting a whole lot in terms of groundbreaking material in this review. Nonetheless, I still expected more than this thoughtless entry. In all fairness to the reviewer, no one else submitted anything and there's been ample time so I guess we can't really complain. Anways, a Madvillain review might be nice. But in all honesty, anyone requesting a Madvillain review already has the disc, already knows how good it is and really doesn't need anyone else to tell you that. . Haha...possibly the worst review ever...the album is great though "mf doom" I happen to know for a fact that Brian didn't post this review. I don't write reviews but that was a god awful review and the music doesn't seem like it's much better. I submit two solid reviews for two solid albums, and this shit gets posted. Reviews like this wouldn't happen if Scott were still around! divide my score by 10. Adam, Aubin, Brian, to whom else it may concern, Can't stand this stuff. Don't know why, but I'm just not feeling Aesop's flow. It's like Weezer, really. In reverse. I don't know why I like them, they just kind of have a vibe I like...Aesop Rock...not so much. This is coming from a kid who's street cred pretty much stops at having heard the last two MF Doom albums though, so whatever. |
