I'm not really sure what I expected. Good pop-rock songs by way of guilty pleasure? Halfway decent radio singles I could sing along to?

How about absolute crap?

I'll admit, I bought Hurry Up And Wait based on the sheer catchiness of its first single, "I'm Just Fine," or whatever poorly borrowed phrase it was titled. But even in my shittier music tastes of the time did the mediocrity of that album overwhelm me to the point of eventually handing it over to the poor saps at Newbury Comics.

Stop The World is downright uninspired, contrived, forced, boring, incredibly predictable, flatly-produced midtempo poppy rock with recycled harmonies, unaffecting and practically-monotone vocals, guitars devoid of any creativity whatsoever, dragged-out parts missing climactic points, and lyrics worse than the shit I scribbled in my eighth grade algebra notebook.

Terrible.

This album rocks! wooooo hooooooo! these guys understand their punk rock roots! more like this please!

    Anonymous (October 21, 2004)

I don't need to hear this to know how much it sucks. Basically everybody agrees the first one is better, and that cd is garbage---they just use the same unoriginal pop-punk formula we've seen a million times before, and don't even do it well.

    Anonymous (October 21, 2004)

you all should've known based solely on their worst-name-ever name...worst name ever...

also, that cover looks like it would be cool without that giant shitty name/logo stamped on there...

    poopypants (October 21, 2004)

yea that was the single, 'i feel fine'. damn, thats one of the better radio friendly pop punk songs ever written, should have been huge, I get the cd, and nothing else on it lived up to that song, except 'here we go' .

    Marty_Mcfly (October 21, 2004)

Horrible band. Boring and watered down.

    boba_fett (October 20, 2004)

actually... in my opinion, those songs dont sound nearly as bad as the songs on the other cd. this cd merits a 2/10.

    boba_fett (October 20, 2004)

yeah its hard to believe that these are the same guys that wrote i feel fine. that song was pretty catchy back in the day...

    slippy (October 20, 2004)

Haha. This band is a joke.

"Let's talk about the new Jimmy Eat World.

My take: there are about four really great songs that completely blew me away, mixed in with three mediocre songs and four bits of complete filler (1-2, 7, 11).

As a fan, I'm really disappointed. Particularly with the lyrics on the "filler" songs. It seems like JEW might be suffering from Matrix-syndrome... that is, so many people have copied their sound that they're pressing too hard now. Bottom line, I'd recommend skipping the album and buying or stealing the three or four songs worth owning (particularly 10, which is excellent).

JEW is original? I guess, you "learn" something new everyday.

    poopypants (October 20, 2004)

their last album had 2 perfect pop punk songs on it, and 14 or so totally shitty filler ones. kinda like eve6 doing face to face covers. Or cooter. just bad. I'm sure this isn't much better.

Score is for the song "here we go" and the single off their last one.

    Anonymous (October 20, 2004)

This score is for Newbury Comics, and Newbury Comics alone.

wow eddie i just saw your "favorite reviews"...you really are a homo. nfg gets 9 starz? you lose all cred in any human being's book.

    Anonymous (October 19, 2004)

you would say that you faggot eddie. this shit sucks.

    Eddie (October 19, 2004)

I didn't even know they had a new album coming out...

    Anonymous (October 19, 2004)

    score is for pop punk.

    Anonymous (October 19, 2004)

The ep they put out before being signed to a major was decent but their first full length was horrible and I don't even want to bother with this.

    Anonymous (October 19, 2004)

their last album was fairly decent - had a lot of good edgy pop-punk songs - that's why face to face got them to open for them a couple years - however, the review is right - it's just a boring pop album. i really wish bands would stop going down suck-ass pop lane when they have potential to be a lot better

7/10 - for their last album
    2/10 - for this album

You're supposed to link tubgirl in bad reviews, man. TUBGIRL.

    Nap (October 19, 2004)

it may be a shit record, but come on at least make a good review

    Anonymous (October 19, 2004)

You can stream the album from their website if you must. This review is 100% correct.

    colin (October 19, 2004)

    hahaha

i'm sure this album lives up to the review... but at least give some examples... unless it really doesn't merit even that.
