Remember File Under Black? None More Black doesn’t. While this EP definitely won’t surprise you, it still sounds a little different from the full length. None More Black has opted to experiment a little and it works pretty well. With tempo changes, hand claps. catchy guitar riffs, and “whoas” and “yeahs” in all the right spots, it seems that they were set on implanting each song into your brain until it drove you mad. We even have some whistling present on track 3. Only the most jaded of people won’t enjoy these songs. On first listen, I thought that NMB must have written all their angry songs on the full-length, because judging by the sound of these songs, you get a decidedly upbeat feeling. Take a look at the lyrics though, and the thought is quickly dispelled. I guess I should have guessed that from a CD titled Loud About Loathing. The 6 songs generally revolve around Jason’s brand of lyrical self-evaluation. So lyrically, the EP isn’t that much different from the full length. This EP is an interesting one indeed. I’ve listened to it time and time again, but I can’t quite find a finalizing thought regarding my feelings towards it. It’s catchy, and I thoroughly enjoy it, but in the end, I still feel a little let down. This EP builds up, but never really reaches a finale. The first 4 songs are great, but by the last two the album just dies a little bit. It wouldn’t be so bad if these were the first 6 songs of a full-length, but as an EP it just doesn’t work so well. I keep listening to those last two songs thinking maybe I missed something, but I can’t find anything making them worthwhile. Regardless, if you enjoyed the other NMB material, I recommend this completely. However, if you had problems with the first release, I doubt this will do it for you. It’s not dynamite. hahahah! "it's not dynamite."!!! i get it it!!! hahahahaha. this is for none more blacks live performance I love the new Strung Out. I'd put it in my top 10 for this year, and I think its def. better than american paradox. I'd have to say "Angeldust" by Strung Out is one of the better new songs i've heard lately. At first I wasn't impressed with Exile in Oblivion, but after a second listen I was already addicted. ok, I will pick up RAR as soon as possible. I heard good things about it, but I heard good things about Eternal cowboy too, so i wasn't sure. I musta missed the backlash. ""Apathy and Exhaustion is far and away the Best CD of 2002 in my opinion." Yeah Caution and Illusion of Safety are killer. When is Hwm gonna get the recognition they deserve? Apathy is an absolute masterpiece, even the video they released off that album is a classic. Jesus I love that band. ""Apathy and Exhaustion is far and away the Best CD of 2002 in my opinion." "Just play all the oldies!" "Just play all the oldies!" The Lawrence Arms do deserve a much larger fanbase... I've seen them at least 7 times and it was great to not only hear, but witness their progression as a band... Last time I saw them at the Knitting Factory, they had the crowd in their hands throughout their entire set, which was great, considering the last few times I had seen them there only a few really were into'em. i don't know why, but the chain of events that starts with listening to this band always ends with me listening to cigar. not that nmb and cigar sound alike or anything, it's just i start with nmb, go to kid dynamite, go to lifetime, go to engine 88, go to deviates, and then to cigar. whatever :) "The Lawrence Arms are the next Jawbreaker" "Apathy and Exhaustion is far and away the Best CD of 2002 in my opinion." Canadian indie culture freebie newspaper "Exlaim@#!" gave the Descendents "Cool to Be You" #3 for their top punk discs of the year, is this a reasonable place for that record? The only problem I would EVER EVER have with a Kd reunion is the fact that there is a chance that their new stuff would suck. None More Black is goddamn heavensent. previous comment was me yea the lawrence arms get no love, but they are growing and gaining fans...slowly. None More Black is goddamn heavensent. The Lawrence Arms are the next Jawbreaker Larry gets no love in the States-absolutely none. This is why: their audience are too busy listening to Mathbook Romance and Silverstein. Oh well the Arms will get their "just desserts" when all the kids are drooling over them the same way misplaced bands of their respective era get lost in the shuffle, like Quicksand, and Jawbreaker. Yea, D4, NMB, against me! and the lawerence arms all have some similar characteristics and feel. I love all 4 bands but I definately consider the Lawrence Arms my fav. out of the 4. SOYBOMB: I think you need to give None More Black another try. I don't see how you can hold The Greatest Story Ever Told in such lofty regards but get no enjoyment out of a band who is by no means a ripoff but carries very similar characteristics I think these guys are better live than on CD and are a great young band w/ lots of potential. File under black, while it wouldnt make even my top 15 of 2003, was still a damn solid debut album. "Eh, Paint it Black will destroy '05." Best Nmb song? I'd have to go with "Nothing To Do When Your Locked In A Vacancy" Fat generally does a good job letting one of their "young guns" lead of a comp of theirs(Rock against Bush or otherwise) Presenting the Dancing Robots by Larry Arms is a killer tune as well. Kirby you're such a fucking HOMO. The cheapest I've found it is on No Idea (surprise surprise);.$5.00 plus shipping. YO! "I bet you these kids got there name from spinal tap...." I bet you these kids got there name from spinal tap.... Sorry, I've seen these guys about five times, each of the occasions as boring as the last. Not my cup of tea. "Only the most jaded of people won’t enjoy these songs." The answer is none... the album could be none more black the new paint it black song that i heard online was pretty lackluster. so i find it hard to believe the new cd will be that good. To those wondering: Dear Scott, To those wondering: "File Under Black", however, was the best album of 2003." where the motherfuck can i find this cd?!?!?! "score is for guy below me" "I think the question is 'how much blacker can it get?' and the answer is, 'none more'." I LOVE IT! Eh, Paint it Black will destroy '05. How about naming or describing some of the tracks? This review has little substance... I'd one up this ep to an 8. Awesome disc. This ep is pretty great, but not as fantastic as i was hoping for. i love the cover art on this. the score is for the reviewers name. Hysterical. haha... good stuff oksoda... Yeah, the reviewer's opinion is shit. He's a fag. This ep is solid the whole way through. Fuck this reviewer. It’s not dynamite. This is good stuff. Good. score is for guy below me None More Black is great, but www.purevolume.com/motorfalcon is kinda cool Kudos to the author for the Kid Dynamite pun Gah, I thought I was done buying CDs for the year. Goddammit. I heard these guys were pretty good..hopefully I'll get around to hearing them soon. Mega points for the Spinal Tap Reference in their name though! They didn't really sign to Sabot, they just released this EP through Sabot. They will still release their major stuff on Fat. "i just think it's kinda weird that they signed to Sabot" i just think it's kinda weird that they signed to Sabot i've been listening to file under black a lot more lately, and find myself singing the songs in my head. so i decided to pick this up. i really enjoy it, and have listened to it a lot. my only complaints are: the songs tend to run together and the last song is horrible. but the best song, by far is "oh, there's leg work". rad song. I got a copy of this in the mail today and thus far I really like it. Kid Dynamite is almost a curse on this band, since every review I read about them talks about tempo and pacing comparisons more than anything else. As a melodic punk record this is quite nice. |
