Nerf Herder's newest release won't really surprise any fans of the band. The themes of the songs are the same and musically not that different. The humor is a little more crass than their previous releases. Maybe the tour with Bloodhound Gang had something to do with that. The songwriting on this E.P. is more like their debut album than "how to meet girls". Not that HTMG was very involved, but this one is more straight ahead rock. Lyrically, some of the references might be over the heads of the younger fans.
1. Hotel California: NOT A COVER. Sounds like their first album. Overall, this E.P. is short, catchy, funny, and doesn't stray too far from what made fans of Nerf Herder fans of Nerf Herder. If you liked them before, this 18 minute E.P. should tide you over 'til their next L.P. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
Here's my two cents: "Bridge Under Troubled Water" (not a cover) sounds extremely similar to style of The Vandals. And I thought the posts would be "Nerf Herder's not punk!" Sorry, I just assumed anyone who listens to this style of punk would have heard NH by now. If you've never heard Nerf Herder before, go to http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/92/nerf_herder.html and download a song. If you wanted them compared to another band, then maybe Bracket without the intricacies musically, and not so sullen lyrically. They just have that similar vibe to them, kinda on the edge between garage rock and pop-punk. They're a great band, but this wouldn't be the best CD of theirs to buy if you're not familiar with them. Yeah, this review tells me nothing... I'm sure hardcore NH fans will understand it, but the rest of us (i.e. the people this review should probably be primarily directed at) probably won't get much out of it. Well-written and to-the-point though. while i do know what they sound like, i'm sure not everybody does, so ever think of writing what they sound like instead of saying it sounds like the first cd. |
