From the late 70's CBGB's scene of punk bands like the Ramones and the Voidoids emerged a different kind of band. They barely sounded like a punk band, though; in fact, they weren't a punk band at all. New wave, art rock, punk-funk, whatever it was, it was great. The debut album from the now legendary Talking Heads is simple, unique, and their most easily accessible to fans of punk rock.

Ludacris recently has made a rap oput of "Sugar On My Tongue" Ooh, mister toughguy cant stand " pussy new wave garbage." Ooh, mister toughguy cant stand " pussy new wave garbage." Oh no, this is music that makes you think a little bit...It CAN'T be punk. "pussy new wave garbage" Come on, how do you really feel about it? Don't beat around the bush, just come right out and tell us! Ha ha ha ha... "yes it is" "this isn't punk." I might try that live record mentioned below. If you want pop, go for "Little Creatures"- nothing punk about that one... Absolutely love this album, it's a classic. I haven't been that impressed by some of their other stuff though. Perhaps I should persevere.. Why do the good reviews always get the least comments? TH are great... Byrne's solo stuff strikes me as yuppie tourist rock, but these records are fucking genius. Finally, a punk band reviewed this week. Who would have thought? This album rules, as do pretty much all Heads albums. Fans should definetly check out the (FINALLY just released on CD) double live album "The name of this band is Talking Heads". Its got many of the songs from this album on the first disc with a fiercer, less sterile sound to them. The version of "Pulled Up" is worth it alone. but it's all good, really. This band sucks! I fucking hate them! I love the Talking Heads. This score is for that hand-chop-down-the-forearm dance that Byrne does in the "Once In A Lifetime" video (Is that the one?) This and "Little Creatures" (SO pop!) are my fave Talking Heads records. First. This band is awesome. David Byrne is a wacked-out dude, but c'mon... He had the big white suit in "Stop Making Sense"... Brilliant. |
