It’s a beautiful thing when a good band turns to great; when they put out an album that ends all skepticism concerning the band and turns everyone’s head. Such is the case with Comeback Kid’s spectacular sophomore effort, Wake The Dead.

Re listened to this the other day it'sstill an amwesome record. "Our Distance" is incredible! Great album. "Wake the Dead" is an amazing song. One of the bests ever. "Partners In Crime," "False Idols Fall," and "The Trouble I Love" are all really, really good. I thought this album was pretty amazing until I finally heard Turn it Around. I'd guess its only about as half as good as TiA, although its still great. I'm worried signing to Victory may've been a mistake. Awesome cd. Not as hard as their first but still relentless fast-paced hardcore. I think its better than the first which is also very good your band rocks i have all ur cd's ...another thing nice guitar Absolutely nothing original on this. To call this great is an absolute to all the great hardcore bands throughout history. I heard SO FREAKING MUCH about this band that I can't even describe how bewildered I am. It's just generic hardcore, with some truly awful lyrics, that has been done a million times before, and a million times better. This cd is amazing. Go buy it if you haven't...seriously. veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery good cd. that's pretty much all I have to say on the subject. album's good, but turn it around is much better More like punk (Rise Against) than hardcore (Bane) In my eyes. I didnt think id like this album, boy was I wrong. great stuff....some of the tracks kick my ass... An amazing hardcore album!!! CBK has done it again!! Their debt Turn it Around was perhaps the most well rounded, high energy, fast, agressive album I have heard in a while. Every single song was good, not one weak link and on Wake the Dead is no different. Guest vocals from Good Riddance was cool. Only problem I have was that it was not as heavy as their last, and this album almost leaves me to think that these guys will become like Alexisonfire and become mainstream in the next few years. God I hope they don';t become the new trend in "mainstream hardcore"....all that said leaves me to give wake the dead an 8 I like Combeback Kid but on "Wake Up The Dead," they completely ripp off the beggining of Zeke's "Chinatown" ohhh i love the ass holes on here who think they know everything about bands and labels. especially a few comments down where they say that victory turned CBK into shit. I know the CBK guys and heard that whole album before they even signed with victory. So go practice your guru status somewhere else mother fuckers. the album is awesome. the band is awesome the site www.xsisterhoodx.com is giving away this album as well as a limited edition CBK vinyl , t-shirt and hoodie. Hey well gosh.. you know i always wanted to become an alterantive singer. cause when i sing i dont stutter at all. u know... but any ways if you guys can help me out that would be great...... But the thing i dont even know if i can sing.. N i buy almost evr new record that comes from you guys. You know the bands that oyu sponser awesome album love the band and i cant wait to go see them never so positive surprised of a oldschool HC record, yes, buy it NOW wake the dead sucked. victory records took one of the best new school hardcore bands and turned it to shit complete and uder shit. i love turn it around it was one of my favorite top 10 hardcore cds. then they went on to the music killer labal aka victory record and turn to crap. all you kids that say your hardcore your basically wrong. true hardcore is bands like Black Flag and Slapshot not this new age stuff although i love it its not true hardcore. One more thing when i bought wake the dead there was this sticker that said mammoth breakdowns......where the fuck where they? I just don't get it. Admittedly, I'm pretty picky when it comes to hardcore. In fact, I hate almost every hardcare band I've ever heard with very few exceptions. Then you'd better start revoking my opinions. anybody that says none more black is better should have thier opinion immediately revoked. I'll probably get a lot of shit for taking this, but I can't take the vox in Paint it Black. Other than that, I guess they're pretty good though. None More Black is still ten times better. FYI, I just got "Paradise" and its far from a 10. It sits safely in the 8-8.5 range. CVA hands down was a better CD. By the way, that was me logged out below. I take back my perfect score. It'd be perfect with just a little more Russ. "Is that cover by Ryan Sook?" Wow, you can not give a score. never noticed that. However, this is an 8. If you buy it in Canada its on Smallman not Victory. Interesting eh? However.... saying: Yeah its pretty rare to come across ANY modern hardcore band that can write a decent lyric that doesn't sound too much like a fucking Dashboard song. But this album is definately crucial. Whoever said Underoath was a melodic hardcore band obviously has never heard this album. This is THE melodic hardcore. No screaming bitches here! Just all balls! wait what sticker? (not scoring it because it hasn't came from interpunk yet) The lyrics on this album are pretty weak. Us against them. You're wrong, I'm Right. blah blah blah. But the songs are pretty catchy, so that's alright. Definitly not a 10, though. I was going to buy this today but I couldn't get past the huge-ass sticker on the front. I can't believe hardcore has come to this. Awesome album. Purchasing an album buys you rights to the music contained therein. You can't resell the music or use it in a movie without permission, but you can put the music in any format you wish under pretty much any circumstance. "something originally recorded onto analog tape sounds better on vinyl than cd. Truth. and if you buy the vinyl, aren't you entitled to download the music and burn it onto a cd as a "backup?" I hope this is legal cause that's what I do." you can buy something to connect your record player to your computer too, and just transfer the songs onto your hard drive... i dont know what the thing is called or how to do it though, my computer has the clap. something originally recorded onto analog tape sounds better on vinyl than cd. Truth. and if you buy the vinyl, aren't you entitled to download the music and burn it onto a cd as a "backup?" I was talking about homeless people... my car doesn't have a tape deck. most NEW cars DON'T. the cassette is dead. My turntable doesn't either, however it is hooked up to my stereo, which does. But, vinyl itself is, sorry vinylheads, of poorer sound quality than cds, and transferring THAT to tape is only adding to the flaws. i would much rather pay the same, or 1-2 dollars more for a cd that i can easily rip, put on my ipod, and take everywhere. scores for the 'artwork' "A lot of shit I have on vinyl I also get on CD because, guess what junior, vinyl doesn't play in the car. Additionally, who the fuck are you to condemn someone for how they choose to spend their money? You come off as a very arrogant prick in that statement, my friend. i own quite a few albums on both vinyl and cd... most of them i bought the cd first though, and my collection is limited to rarer stuff & albums that bought after i decided that hearing them on cd was just not good enough.... Sorry to interrupt all this arguing and what not, but I just picked up this album, and it fucking rips. Personally, I barely have the cash to buy all the records I do want, so I wouldn't want to use any cash on buying an album twice. I can see both sides of the argument though. "Wow way to be a materialist! Yey for owning more shit than you need/hopefully can afford! Yey for the 8 or ten bucks that could have been given to a homeless guy but instead went into boosting your cred by having the new PiB on LP! Yey! " Wow way to be a materialist! " i used to work for victory. i quit right around the time that hatebreed really broke - like 1999. daryl's voice is much more metallic-sounding and, frankly, more annoying Might Scott Wade be the new Daryl Taberski? Is anybody else hearing this? A victory records sampler is like getting jizzed in the face by 20 guys. and i'm sorry but bsd, you are so full of shit mmm this album is awesome. and to the guy who said he doesn't like hardcore because of scenesters...that's a bit...stupid....for lack of a better word. 'scenesters' don't generally listen to hardcore music such as Comeback Kid, they usually listen to metalcore or screamo or something along those lines. While there is good metalcore and one good screamo band (You And I)...most 'scenesters' listen to shitty music and proclaim to like hardcore when they know nothing of it. You should definitely check Comeback Kid out, this album and Turn It Around are amazing listens. it's great that i ordered this from Interpunk and have yet to receive it. Also if you're trying to take that stand you could argue that any musical purchase is unnecessary; me I'd rather support independent artists and labels than the vast majority of the career panhandlers who live here. " Wow way to be a materialist! Yey for owning more shit than you need/hopefully can afford! Yey for the 8 or ten bucks that could have been given to a homeless guy but instead went into boosting your cred by having the new PiB on LP! Yey! " "So if I like Good Riddance, will I like this? I like faster stuff, but am not neccesarily a hardcore fan. (blame the scenesters for that)" So if I like Good Riddance, will I like this? I like faster stuff, but am not neccesarily a hardcore fan. Yey! how in the world do you fail to see an objective approach? BSD how could you possibly live up to your own logic? I thought it was a perfectly fine review. "PS - I just got my Jade Tree package, new Paint it Black on CD & LP! Hooray!" This score is for Full Blown Chaos. Here's how I figure: the inability to have any sort of objective approach to reviewing music weakens the argument for the quality of the album. You might as well boil it down to "the new album is sweet" for all journalitic intents. good review, good album.... i also agree with sickboi that the new 7 seconds is better. how exactly do you figure, vaquero? I don't, you still come off as a poor reviewer. theundergroundscene: I heard the new Qotsa and this. The new Qotsa ain't exactly ripping my brain outta my head like their shit did two years ago-this is to be expected after listening to Cave in for two years straight-nothing can stand up againt the Cave why is somebody talking about QOTSA? and Figure Four is not their alter ego. And if they are Jesus Lovers....they don't preach about it, so you have nothing to complain about. listening to it right now LAME. These dudes are for sure Jesus Lovers, so is Figure Four, their alter ego. They'll try and hide it now, but that's what got them their built-in crowd. Nothing new, you'll forget about this by next month when the new QOTSA comes out. Ten!? Are you fucking kidding me!? LAME. These dudes are for sure Jesus Lovers, so is Figure Four, their alter ego. They'll try and hide it now, but that's what got them their built-in crowd. Nothing new, you'll forget about this by next month when the new QOTSA comes out. what you guys fail to understand is that a rating of ten is not just because of music alone. these reviews are opinions; how much you really really like it comes into play in the rating as well as just how good it sounds. there are albums that are amazing musically, but will never get a ten from me because i can't fully get into it and enjoy it every time i listen to it. radiohead is an example of this. but there are also albums that are not only awesome musically, but they make you want to listen to them ALL THE TIME. that's what this album is making me feel like. i can't put it down. yes, it's not the most musically ambitious endeavor out there, but it is done extremely well and better than 99% of the bands that do the same thing. pitchfork wouldn't give this a ten, but i sure as fuck would. uhhh I second that. I've loved Good Riddance for the past 4 years (yeah, I know, that's not too long, but I'm only 16) and haven't seen them once. In fact, I don't think they've even been here in at least three years. Good Riddance better at least do a farewell tour or something. "- No... not really. The closest they came to this sound was on a handful of tracks on Ballards From the Revolution, and that was really just "Choices Made," and "Ten Years From Now." "I mean Good Riddance has been doing the same shit for years." I think this album is excellent but not a 10 out of 10. It's nothing new. I mean Good Riddance has been doing the same shit for years. While this is pretty good for what it is, I agree with the last poster, this is no way deserves a perfect score. It's not original or going to last, it's just not that good. I understand everyone has an opinion but this is a real stretch. Another perfect score for a good, but not perfect album. Reviewers on this site are over zelous a little too much. People who submit a perfect score should have it automatically scaled back to an 8 and then at the end of the year we can all vote on which ones get the extra two points. 1) CBK is not a straightedge band. That was me. I thought this band's old stuff was pretty monotonous and really never understood the hype but the songs they're streaming from this one are pretty solid and memorable for this style of hardcore. I can't say it's very high on my to-get list but I might pick this up if the whim strikes me. Good. A 10? Ehhhh.... Thats for perfection. PERFECTION. Not Victory. No metalcore album deserves a 10. i'm pretty sure this band isn't straight edge, you may wanna fix that. "Am I wrong but are these guys a Christian hardcore band?" "Is that cover by Ryan Sook?" If they are, they're not blatantly Christian. I can handle Christian bands as long as they're not preaching. Am I wrong but are these guys a Christian hardcore band? "Besides, you can still get all of the breakdown mayhem found on their debut if you see them live, which I highly consider, for they’re currently on the straight edge hardcore tour of a lifetime, opening for Bane and With Honor." Is that cover by Ryan Sook? Write a ton of reviews. But hey, is it worth the effort? Most of the new staffers seem to end up with all the shitty albums. I think Hein is the one who always gets the Fat Wreck stuff. Holy shit! Someone like one of our releases! "The band’s passion-filled debut, Turn It Around, put this band near the forefront of the straight edge hardcore movement," Write a ton of reviews. But hey, is it worth the effort? Most of the new staffers seem to end up with all the shitty albums. I think Hein is the one who always gets the Fat Wreck stuff. 'Org question: This CD IS Fucking Amazing. I don't even like hardcore that much and I am really into this. It's definitely better than I thought it was going to be, but it's not that good. this shit is good. turn it around was amazing. you dudes don't know what you're talking about. I like breakdowns.......................but they SLOW DOWN SONGS!!!! This CD IS Fucking Amazing. This album is really good, but I honestly dont see how anyone can like this more than Turn It Around. The production is better, but that is about it. Needless to say, Turn It Around is my favorite hardcore album of the last 2-3 years and this album does come close, so I am not disappointed. Definetly the album of the year thus far.... I still say this singer sounds like the dude from Sum41. I also say this is the most generic hardcore they could possibly make. The only redeeming factor is they do it pretty well and its not meathead hardcore. Regardless, it is far from being a 10/10 and Hardcore Albumn of the Year. let's just say it doesn't suck cock. Yeah, Russ does some vocals. I love that man, but I wish he'd drop Only Crime and start doing more with Good Riddance again. I know Only Crime has an all-star lineup, but they're just not that good. dosnt russ rankin do guest vocals on this?? "This band has nothing on F-Minus." record of the year! i firmly stand behind my 5 star rating 100% Until Bane's new one shows up, nobody has a lock on the hardcore album of the year. Nah, Paradise is just better. 'Angel' tips it. I still think "CVA" is better than "Paradise". The new PIB is better than this, so this isn't the best hardcore album of this year. Hardcore album of the year its definately better than their previous effort which was a tad boring. Oh, shit. I just realized the dude is staff. Whoops. Come on, a 10? I bet you won't be saying that in a few months. This is just ridiculous, maybe an 8 at best. It's good, but it's not the best hardcore record of the last 5 years, let alone the first three months of THIS year. F-Minus rules. Easily the best album of 2003. "This band has nothing on F-Minus." I like what I've heard so far. I really liked Turn it Around. I;m going to have to go out and buy this...and a 12 pack This band has nothing on F-Minus. Nice review, i'm going to go download this right now best album of the year so far. i can easily see this as being the best hardcore album to come out this year too. A bit uneven but a solid album. I could see this growing on me and resulting in a higher score, though... |
