I have all of their full-length's including the rare,"Mellancholy Collection." I was stoked the day this album came out, and was probably one of the first ones to get it. All I can say about this album is that it's an amazing cd, that shows what an innovative band Millencolin really is. This album doesn't contain much ska, but it does mix Millencolin's genuine punk sound with the band's newer indie rock influences. Songs like, "Fox" "Material Boy" and "Right About Now" could easily fit in with Millencolin's older work, while songs like "No Cigar" "Penguins and Polarbears" "Devil Me" and "Duckpond" best show their more indie/alternative side. This cd even has a ballad titled oddly enough, "The Ballad," which may sound corny to some of the more hardcore punkers, but infact is an excellent song. I've heard many people criticize them for "selling out" their sound. But I think this is one of those cases where the sound change of a band is more genuine. These indie influences could also be heard on "For Monkeys," but not as distinctly. The only song I didn't really like was "The Mayfly," but it's not unbearable.
Unlike other bands, who's names won't be mentioned, (Blink 182) that forced their way onto mtv and teen bop magazines, Millencolin has managed to become one of the most well known bands in the punk scene without any of that BS. In the long run, i think Millencolin will continue to make album great albums andbe one of the best in the scene.

My 2nd favorite album. A masterpiece, their best album. so its not typical fast punk... so what. its really good music. i like this cd. Great album in my opinion, but to the guy below who said they sold out...How exactly do you sell out and still remain on Epitaph. Selling out means you get lots of money to go join some shitty major label and over produce your sound. Learn something before you speak. Now the Hives, they sold out, got 11 million to leave Burning Heart and now are going to suck even more. yep i agree with you all, millencolin are great. Quite disappointing to see this band getting so 'poppish'. Still good music, don't mistake me, but I expected more from this band. this is an ass kickin cd. if you do not like this you are officially retarded. alotta of people have mixed views on this cd...maybe not their best work but still worth checking out by god, you people are pathedic. milencolin sold and and suck. what a freek you are It`s a real cool album!I love it!Best score, of course! Nice This album is okay, but life on a plate is one of the best punk albums. agree with the guy below, this album sucks bad ass. MC sold out and suck. these guys were the reason i got into punk, but this album just wasn't as good as earlier albums such as 'same old tunes' or 'life on a plate'. i they started to go downhill after the release of 'life on a plate'(which is hard to top). Millencloin was awesome!! notice i said "was" But after this album I lost most of my respect for them. There are a few good songs...but I have a feeling its just gonna get real bad from here. I'd say "classic" millencolin was "Same Old Tunes" (or Tiny Tunes if you want to get picky). Life on A Plate was by far their best cd though. Four Monkeys just plain sucked, but this one is pretty damn good. Yea i was wondering about that whole "rare" Melancholy Collection, cause i don't live in europe, and i found it quite easilly(as did a friend of mine) ups, wrong score, it think now it's fair it is a good album, but it's millencolin's worst work yet, it has some great tunes (material boy, penguins & polarbears, no cigar...), but i hate "the balad", if you like millencolin, you'll like this record! |
