Bam·boo·zle
Over the course of three days this past weekend, the Bamboozle made its debut. The three-day festival, while including a plethora of acts in which there really may have been something for everyone, was truly thrown together in the most chaotically disorderly of ways possible. Throughout its course, set times were constantly changed/shortened/delayed, stages were often "put together" or moved, and the main stage area (indoors in Asbury Park's Convention Hall) as well as Saturday's Hot Topic stage (indoors in the Stone Pony), was closed off by the local Fire Marshall for capacity reasons for several bands. After paying $80+ for a 3-day pass, you very well may have missed a certain band you came to see. Also, most merchandise was sold indoors and upstairs at the Convention Hall - therefore, you may have needed to wait in line just to buy said merch. The Street and MADE stages were outdoor stages that sat next to each other, and though a part of Bamboozle, were free to the public. This was made rather unclear by Max Cruise Entertainment (who put on the festival). Incidentally, this is also where most of my weekend was spent. That being said, here are the full sets I caught from Day 1:

first of all, this wasn't the first bamboozle. It's been going on for 3 or 4 years with better bands at the stone pony in a one day event. And fine 2 pt.s is off of "they make beer commercials like this". idiot. Didn't With Honor play on this day? Now what made you go this day vs sunday when decent bands were actually playing? what would possess thrice to cover a brand new song? that's really lame. i like brand new, but still. "bienvenidos"...the parka kings were the shit. the live album of their last show "where's the afterparty"...was pretty sweet too Yes, Telegraph was awesome. Jump Up Records was my favorite about 10 years ago. "-Motion City, from what I saw, was alright as well, but Justin's voice was cracking. Sounded like he was getting worn down." This thing was so horrifically unorganized, it's rather embarassing. Here's some random thoughts I had on the festival: Explosion, most definitly. i'm getting a bit anxious for it to tell you the truth, since it's the light at the end of the tunnel before exams kick in. Worst festival ever. Max Cruise sucks. someone got bamboozled. only the idiots waited in line for the convention hall, i just went up to the front of it where it was no longer a line and was more of a crowd of people, or had split into two lines, one with the 200 idiots waiting, and one with 10 people who split off from the line with 200 idiots waiting in it. it never took me more than 5 minutes to get in if that. Warped Tour, no. Unless they add quite a few spectacular bands. Everyone I want to see I've already seen in the past. "htis festival sounds like it would piss the shit outta me, i hate fucking disorganized crowds, merch lines , and anyone under 21 at shows, which seems to be 80% of every bands fan base, where the FUCK are the poeple who were young at shows when I was young?!?! did you all stay the same age and only I grew up?!?! " you want good ska cds check into primevil: Errr..."the quiet THINGS that no one ever knows." You saw the Bouncing Souls, right? no thrice or motion city soundtrack? the bosstones best album is 'lets face it' followed closely by 'question the answers'. if you like 'jacknife' you really can't go wrong w/ either of those (released in 97 and 94 respectively) email me at adam@fueledbyramen.com for the ltj remix cover art. I only saw the Blood Brothers from that list you posted and they were shitty. no thrice or motion city soundtrack? DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL RIOT!!!111 Bosstones wise, I suggest picking up Let's Face It, then every thing before that, then Pay Attention. Try Less Than Jake's purevolume page. If that doesn't work, ask FBR. If that, too, doesn't work, I'll bring in my copy of the cd sleeve tomorrow. I don't have a scanner at home, and I don't think I'll be going home anytime soon, eiether way. Any idea when my review is being published? Explosion rocked last night, but the Loved Ones stole the show. To (One True, the)Bill, Nightmare Of You owns. You managed to see a whole five bands in a day? Wow. What exactly were you doing for the other six hours? "Any idea when my review is being published?" minus the bear. great band. great live show. Any idea when my review is being published? thats a shame, none of those bands are really.... good.. score is for minus the bear man |
