One word....wow! I was skeptical about buying this album at first; I had heard so much shit that their sound had changed for the worse. Then I heard their song from the warped tour 2001 comp. I said "To Hell With What Everyone Else Says" because this kicks ass! And this is coming from someone who mainly listens to hardcore. Their sound has changed slightly I will admit, But its a good thing, totally. When I heard the opening track apropriately titled "Roll On" At first I really didn't like it, and its still my least favorite song on the album. The 2nd song "Pictures in the Mirror" completely redeemed this band, for I know they can rock ass. The lead singer/guitarist is one of the best I have ever heard, he does both so so well. The rest of the band is equally as talented, rounding out Scott Owen, who plays the upright bass, and Travis Demsey who plays the drums. One thing everyone has questions about is where would you classify this band, some say punk, some say rockabilly, and then others just say good rock' n roll. They combine many different elements of music from ska, to reggae, punk, rockabilly, which many bands have tried to do but this band just does it so well. Anyway, this is one awesome album better than the pretty successful Self-Titled album released a few years ago. I dont care if you say they're not punk (which I have heard a lot here lately) I consider them punk. And it may take a few listens if you new to hearing The Living End. But it will grow on you. probably the most talented band in the scene today....fucking great band, and not a bad album either this is clearly a punk band. it's not hard to hear the sex pistols influence. HO LY SHIT! what a fucking album. what a fucking band. this is amazing. It's like they were thinking "now what would brad want" when they made this cd. you all need to download their cover of tainted love, too. it's pretty cool. All I can say is MASTERPIECE. Its called experimenting......lots of bands do it..some pull it off and some don't. I think the Living End pulled it off very well here..not a big change but still kicks ass. This album is so poor compared to their S/T album and the two first E.P. Living End lose all his strength on this one. It's sound like lazy corporate 80' rock with all those guitar solos. I'm sure they can do better than that. I love some songs on this cd. like riot on broadway, blood on your hands, and uncle harry anlong with a couple others but some are just damn boring. i do like the vidio section on it so you can watch the video for prisoner of society and pictures in the mirror. but i still love these guys and this is overall a really good cd. This band wasnt one of my favorites until june 20 when they came into lowell with green day. Boy did they change my mind about them. Prisoner of Society is a great song but a couple other songs i heard didnt impress me much. I picked up this album after seeing them tearup the Tsongas Arena and I havent put it away since. It is, in my opinion, one of the best albums of the year. Living End released two albums before the self titled, "It's For Your Own Good" and "Hellbound." Both are excellent, probably better than S/T and Roll On. Roll On is a great album though, especially songs like "Dirty Man" i don't think people are saying enough good things about this album...i was skeptical at first too with a title like "Roll On"...sounded like a rap album...but in one way, this album was better than their first...i think some of the songs like "Pictures in the mirror", and "dirty man" were better than anything on their first, (excluding "monday")...but the first album didn't have one bad song on it..."Roll on" has about 3 one of the best cds i've gotten this year. Your review is right on, Uncle Harry is one of the funniest songs. |
