To address the actual topic though, The Transplants are a really great band that take from so many genres and make it work.

The transplants are the shittiest band that will ever walk the earth, thank fucking jesus they broke up, and saved the world from the musical diarrhea that would be a third album.
I like some Rancid songs, so my problem is not Tim, however it is Tim singing about Gangsters and Thugs. That's almost as bad as him writing shitty songs for Pink, a career low.
And Travis Barker? Fuck him. He's a total dick. I don't care how much you try to put Hip-Hop in punk it's not going to work.

I like the Transplants (although not all of their songs) and i don't give a shit whether some guy comes from some shittie town as long as he makes nice music... If you have any sense left, drop the dead weight and find a new MC before you dreg your bands through the mud. Skinhasbeen Rob ruined Red Hot Moon and Switchblade. Does little Nobby have somethigng on you? Is he your drug dealer or something? Cut him loose.

Don't forget Givehead Rob got dropped from Warner. No one sees that clowns "talent". You have to earn the respect of your audience to make them fans. So far, Mr. MC hasn't bought much to the table. I wanted to like Skinhead Rob, but he's given me no reason to like him. He hasn't proved himself to the fans. His rhymes aren't tight, he has a very limited vocabulary and his delivery blows. I think this record is incredible. Rob has an awesome voice. It has a raw feeling to it. He is better than 50 cent because 50 just makes the same songs a thousand times over. i.e. Candy Shop and Magic stick sounding identical. Last night on Jimmy Kimmel, The Transplants played live. And boy, did it suck. They had a DJ, but I couldn't hear him. I couldn't hear a sampler either. It was pretty lame. Tim spent a good deal of time "rapping", but barely touched his guitar. Lars appeared to be playing all the guitar bits.
The drum tracks sounded off compared to the album, Travis didn't seem as fast or tight. Skinhead Rob was really off key, he tried to sing the chorus. That guy has no delivery. Tim seemed a little wasted.

So wait, if Tim is the only guitairst in this band does that mean that he'll actually PLAY his guitar at shows now??

Givehead Rod can't freestyle or fight. The only thing that bitch can do is polish Tim's ass up nice and shiny and tell pretend stories about being a gangsta drug dealer in Fresno (a shitty farming/suburb college town)

I've listened to this off & on for a day or two, and I don't see a reason for the level of hate some of you have for "Haunted Cities."

Sure, it's 'cool' to bag on Skinhead Rob, but once you get past the hip-to-hate factor, this record isn't bad at all. It's a lot more consistent than the first record. I'm stoked on the Boo Yaa Tribe song, since it's SO unlike anything these 3 (Tim, Travis, Rob) have done before. That Boo Yaa guy has the same flow as Bushwick... Better beats throughout than the first record too.

Lyrically the record lurches between boasts, laments, and some politics- I prefer the latter two. Too many of you are expecting this to be an amalgamation of their other bands. Face it, this record isn't a Rancid/Op Ivy record, it's not a Blink 182/Boxcar Racer record, it's a Transplants record.

P.S.- props for the Godzilla sample in #11!

Some Info for all:

While Barker, Aston and Armstrong cover many of the same subjects as Armstrong's other band, Rancid, the Transplants take a much different musical approach. Although both groups spend a lot of time talking tough about dead friends, hopeless junkies and other lost souls, the hip-hop flavored Transplants use loops, synthesizers and samplers. According to Barker and Aston, the whole point of forming the Transplants with Armstrong was to break away from Rancid's traditional old-school punk rock approach.

"Picture this," Barker says, taking a deep breath. "I grew up loving hip-hop and I still listen to it, even to this day. At the same time, I love punk rock. And the Transplants are all about loving different styles of music - hip-hop, reggae, drum 'n' bass, punk - and putting them together while keeping the chemistry right.

"The Transplants have no expectations to live up to, and we have no limitations either. Nobody can say, 'that doesn't sound like the Transplants' because nobody kn

Yeah, actually I ended up getting dropped by Warner Brothers and I said OK, f**k it. Let's put some of these songs on our record. They quote-unquote didn't get it. Didn't understand it. Of course, like anything else, I was bummed in the beginning but I guess everything happens for a reason. And it turned out to be a f**kin' blessing. I don't want to be somewhere you doesn't understand me. Who doesn't get me or what I'm doing or what I'm talking about, you know what I'm saying? This album blows, I listened to the MTV Leak, Tim wants to sell out soooo bad it hurts. Tim Armstrong has jumped the shark. It happened when Brody dumped him, he hasn't been the same since. It's all pimps, hookers, bling, drug dealers and thug bullshit.

I do agree with the earlier posting call Skinhead Rob a charity case. The guy has no talent, no delivery and his voice isn't that great either. And Travis Barker is just a jock in new clothes.

There are like 10 other songs that are better than Maxwell Murder on AOCTW.

I liked rancid when I was in 6th grade like everyone did but has anyone gone back to that lately? All you need to hear is Tim Armstrong's voice on any cd, its TERRIBLE. he sounds awful and the guy who does the yell rapping crap sounds just as awful. My friend makes better rap cds fucking around in his basement with Reason. Oh and i saw them open for Foo Fighters a while back, seriously, its not even describable in words how awful these guys sound live.

Since I just read an article on a celebration of the 16th anniversary of Public Enemy releasing "It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back," I will use it as the benchmark for a perfect 10 album and then base what the Transplants bring with Haunted Cities. Let's begin:

Chuck D v. Tim Armstrong: Chuck D was a 27 year old educated man who wrote lyrics to empower an entire community and delivered them with clarity and power that, at the time, was unseen in rap or hip-hop. He shunned the drug lifestyle that plagued the neighborhood he grew up in to be a positive role model and still shake the system at the core. Tim Armstrong is an ex-junkie (possibly still a junkie) who watched too many Master P movies and thought since he has a little group of devoted nutjobs following him around that he could come off as being "gangsta." He got so into his gangsta lifestyle that he got overbearing on his wife and she left him right when the first album was released and now he's got more dumb lyrics about friends who make records or sell drugs. Way to help the kids find the way to do something right Timmy. WINNER: Chuck D.

Skinhead Rob v. Flavor Flav: Skinhead Rob is some weird guy Tim found on the street and had scream some half-assed rhymes over shitty samples. Flavor Flav weaved in and out of Chuck's rhetoric with skill and precision, never stepping on the message. Plus, Flavor wrote "911 Is a Joke" sure, that was on Fear of a Black Planet, but boss nonetheless. WINNER: Flavor Flav

Terminator X v. Travis Barker: Travis Barker is a killer drummer who could pretty much fit in any format. Even though the songs and lyrics are weak, he still slays behind the kid. Terminator X is a forboding presence on the stage, but he is just a DJ scratching records...sure, he finds the beats, but Hank Shocklee was the one behind those...WINNER: Travis Barker

S1W's v. Lars: Ex-Military patrolling the stage looking all hardcore and keeping everything in order OR an old man with tattoos on his face going on diatribes about how if Tim would want it, he'd give his asshole up to him. WINNER: S1Ws

Timelessness: Haunted Cities is already boring to me after a couple of listens. It does nothing groundbreaking, exposes nothing...it's just some tattooed up white dudes trying to come off as "gangsta." Nation still has impact and meaning after 16 years. Loud as a Bomb still finds it's way back onto the video shows because it slays anything out there today. WINNER: Nation

With this, it is clear that The Transplants new album receives a 2.

Oh boy, am I going to get kicked off the org if I post that I think Pink's "Try This" cd is pretty rad? The hidden track is ace "you ain't nothing but a hooker, selling your fucking soul", although there's a couple of double ungood slow tunes on there also.

Most talented drummer? There are plenty of more talented drummers out there in rock music. Hell, even Max Weinburg. Or Dave Grohl. And within punk music, Josh Freese is easily one of the most talented.

The last time I checked it was refered as a rap/punk compalation of music. In my recent readings I have learned that Paul Wall(who happens to be a rapper), is mixing this cd to his own style which has never been done before. Look on your cd and see who are special guest artists---rappers. The Transplants have come together to give a different flavor to music.You think that only rappers use a thousand dollars to produce a cd, I feel for you because anyone that tries or has made "big"or a "sell out"" has a budget to produce a record including your "underground MC's".Also, for what I said about the cost of making this cd... guess what, Travis Barker was quoted there. Like all bands that have made it "big" look for a turn-around profit, its called capitalism Welcome to America! As regards to "The real MC's is underground" many have stepped forward i.e. AFI, Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones used to be "underground"; what happened there....they sold out , right??? I think the key to this group is Tim/guest vocalist doiing the hooks. The top songs on this album like doomsday and Gangstas and Thugs have Tim. The good songs on the last album have that as well. I think they did a better job with Rob on this album, but because of the Killafornia song, I gotta take the first album as being better. This one is growing on me though.
