Yesterdays Rising started out as a group of high school kids who crafted an enjoyable DIY EP entitled Ship Of Relations in 2003. It was heavily derivative of hometown (Temecula, CA) locals Finch and A Static Lullaby, but the band was an obviously talented bunch. On the strength of MP3.com plays and internet hype, the band eventually signed to Fearless Records.

Awesome review. I completely agree The reviewer is stupid while Lightworker was a bit weak saying that WWSWB is a dissapointment is maybe the stupidest statement anyone has ever said. That EP lacks nothing and for anyone to say it is dissapointing they obviously do not understand greatness when they hear it These guys are only, like, STILL TEENAGERS. We can kinda excuse them from not redefining rock. I dont think the record is brilliance, because I think they may have been looking for more "radio friendly" stuff with it, but they definitely seem to have a lot of potential. The fact that they were the youngest warped tour band ever says something, no? this reviewer is a fucking idiot. WWSWB was an unreal album and really got me listening to these guys and lightworker definately did not disappoint.Ship of relations is some of the best shit ive heard. Whats even more amazing is these guys were still in high school when they released it.All the shit these guys do is flawless and if he knew anything about music he would realize that. sometimes i jerk off with my pants on "Last week KROQ in LA played the hidden song from this CD-- Combust and feel better. It stopped me in my tracks. I had no idea this band could/would write a song like this. The song made my girl friend cry, hit me hard too." Last week KROQ in LA played the hidden song from this CD-- Combust and feel better. It stopped me in my tracks. I had no idea this band could/would write a song like this. The song made my girl friend cry, hit me hard too. ok I was NOT going to get this CD because I HATE nu-metal pussy boy screaming POSERS. But then I see all the shit here and I take a look at the CD at Virgin. I give it a listen on the player there. 20 minutes later I put out the $9.99. So was it worth it? Fuck yes. Now I can see why this is causing so much bloodshed (heh), it is very easy to thow them in a box with 9000 other shit bands if you dont listen and HEAR. "I dont care about all this drama. Just one kick ass record." hahahahahahahaha I think the review is bullshit. Brian you are so way off I can see why this has hurt your reputation. You are more into trying to prove the "hype" was not worthy of this band then you are in reviewing CD. You can only try to guess what your beef is, but I think a few people caught you. You missed a chance to hear a really good band while you played games with another website. I dont care about all this drama. Just one kick ass record. They re-signed with Asian Man. Yeah. You know me from collins. And you heard me sing. I bet. My guess is that Mr. Anonymous is some pissed off member of this band. Where did he get the info about me? Probably in my Myspace profile that you can see when you click on my user name. One of my top 5 CDs this year. Count me impressed. " It will have an Asian Man logo." "how do you explain that quote...which is the first news item on the front page, if they are on asian man/?" "As of now, the record is scheduled to come out on Fat Wreck Chords in early March" You lost me at Saosin. That band was over-hyped drivel from the get-go. "But people like you, that think what merits a great band is the ability to sell out a club to a bunch pretentious assholes (i.e. the LA scene) are the ones that fit the bill." And I didn't say everyone in the industry is a douchebag. But people like you, that think what merits a great band is the ability to sell out a club to a bunch pretentious assholes (i.e. the LA scene) are the ones that fit the bill. They are actually on Fat now, duder. Asian Man just did the recent comp. "Neither of those two people were in Baxter." Neither of those two people were in Baxter. It's funny that you mention The Lawrence Arms, I worked with Brendan and Chris in Chicago when they were known as the Broadways and Baxter. They are a great group of guys and are doing well on Asian Man Records, although I think they are ready for more exposure. By the way, the entire industry is not populated by "Douchebags" although some days it does feel that way. Industry douchebaggery at its finest? See below. I have been a fan of the band since I saw them play to a sold out Whisky show in LA. It was the first time I held respect for any band that screamed more then a few lines. They defined the genre and were copied as much as they copied. I think that would show balls, if only "one person" really likes this band. Ha. Wow, if that dude is right, GreenVandal got sliced up. It looks like somebody needs to pull the string on their tampon. "Dude Steve Jones would fuck you up for the name use. I'll just call you Patty, you like that better?" what are you talking about? I guess all the Anonymous will call you Patty to let you know that no one is Anonymous in the world today. steve jones isnt going to fuck anyone up....even if he tries Dude Steve Jones would fuck you up for the name use. I'll just call you Patty, you like that better? then = than, you morons fuck banning people. i would rather have this anonymous jackass come on here, then have this site start banning people and turn into absolutepunk.net....where all you have are moronic yesmen Inspector12e has some brains. How about this, ban the IP from the last 99 posts came from and see if thats what is really going on. I think that would show balls, if only "one person" really likes this band. Ha. I wish these people would grow some balls and actually register. Either that or punknews should ban anon posting. I just saw the band In Salt Lake City. They rock the stage. Amazing live show. I brought the CD. I am all about this band now. GreenVandalUr - OR Shawn - I know you from Collins in Tempe. I heard your lame ass singing. How about we put a clip of it up hear so fags like you can cut it up. Not much fun huh? Grow up, pass some of your classes and you should watch your fucking mouth bitch. AP.net should always be made fun of. They are the biggest fucking joke on the internet. Anyone who disagrees doesnt deserve to listen to music. The jab at AP is not part fo a "war", its part of a joke that everyone is in on except for you Mr.Anonymous person. At least thats what I gather. Can I still pimp Deep Elm and Post Parlo? Ok only if "Inspection12e" stops pimping for Polyvinyl. That company is shit. Stop the bullshit Brian made a bad call so did some of the people posting here. Anyone can see the IP numbers if they want, I did. This is a hacked php board and is very easy to get an Admin login and password. So both sides need to grow up. Leave the band out of it. This is all some lame pissing match between AP.net and PN. Stop it. I like the the song. Good lyrics. Sorry to see all of you make this into a shit calling pit. i haven't heard of this band, nor do i want to, but by virtue of them naming a song "my body is a metaphor" they suck balls. I really wish i hadn't read those comments. Okay a few things: This bugged you and because they discovered the band and not PN you could not wait to go for the kill. I'm dissappointed in this guy. YR is a tight band with lots of potential. "it's obvious when a site is vividly plugging a band, and at that time in 2003, AP was doing it for YR." Wow. There was some truth to this being a slug fest with AP.net. I really thought you were above hurting a band by trying to attack a website that you may not like. "I didn't know you and PN hyped No Trigger, but now that makes sense. It is good that you admit this was a bit childish on your part and used this review to try to get to AbsolutePunk.net. Maybe after the dust settles you can write a real review of the CD." It is good that you admit this was a bit childish on your part and used this review to try to get to AbsolutePunk.net Finally! I gained some of my respect back for this guy. He admitted his jabs at a competing Website. goddamn man, he never said he trashed a band...he was talking about the fact that records are being reissued while still in print. there is a huge difference. quit being a baby, and face the fact that not everyone has to like the music on this disc "Lastly, I'm not quite a cred-worthy fan, as I started liking ATDI when they were putting out singles from Relationship, but I've never, ever trashed them. The only trashing in relation was to the idea of their still-in-print albums being re-issued." As if anyone wasn't aware, the continuing anonymous support is still from the same person. Download and sample these tracks: Solid first effort. I give the singer major props. Can't wait to see them live. What the hell is everyone getting pissed at? This is the standard 5 paragraph review from this joker. The first 3 paragraphs are some self hype shit trying to prove he knows music history. Then he does his standard "lyric's suck" paragraph. Winds the whole thing up with a lame rap-up. He has a format and it works for him. You dont need to actaully listen to music, you just fill in the blanks. Read his reviews and you will see his system at work. Its really funny. My review: The only band that screams that is worth anything. I am more then impressed by this CD after each play. They took a lot of chances and will pay off. I hope sooner and not like what someone mentioned here, like other Fearless Records bands that only get respect after its Ok for them to like the band. People like Brian helped make At The Drive-In break up beacuse they just didn't get it and needlessly try to hurt a band. "Not that anyone needs any help here.... Brian was the first to bring up AP in a link he called "internet hype". It was written as "On the strength of MP3.com plays and internet hype, "" One of the best CDs of 2005. Not that anyone needs any help here.... Brian was the first to bring up AP in a link he called "internet hype". It was written as "On the strength of MP3.com plays and internet hype, " I guess I line up with the 37 other "same people" and think the review is a swipe at a good band and a good website, AbsolutePunk.net. I give the LP a 6. "Okay Lucky for me I got the CD before i read any of this. I feel like you'all are talking about another CD. Its good music and I like it. Great? I don't know yet. But it does not suck, its better then 90% of what has been release this year. Okay I read both sites and there is good and bad at both. At times i think the reviews here are stupid and very childish at times they are really good. The Yesterdays Rising review was obviously written to hurt the band and anyone that likes them. It sucks that people are putting a good band in the middle of a fight between websites. Okay... Are people seriously defending this disc as one of the year's best?!? The idiots are taking over... HEY who ever posted the Decoy Music review-- Thanks! I love that site now. They did an inteligent unbiased review. And by the way, I buy most of the CDs brian dumps on, he is a real public service. Keep up the good work and read your CD reviews at Absolute Punk and Decoy Music. Its an ok review. I think most of you are being too hard on Brian, maybe he just doesn't get it. I liked the band's EPs and like the LP even more. I am good friends with a band that is playing on the same stage on warped tour and hear they are exploding on the tour. Funny does jones the bones ever have anything constructive to say? ill jump in and say that i got the leaked version of lightworker and thought it was from another band. When i found out it was yesterday's rising i was surprised. its a good effort. good singing. good playing. from a band i wanted to hate. LOVE the new YR CD. Still think Brian is cool but he has been off the mark on a lot of things lately. All those negative comments at the bottom were by the same person. This album is a snoozefest, face it. Buy it and see if you remember it by this time next year. Me thinks not. Assholes. I cant wait til that flys over someones head and they agree with you Jones. brian is too fucking old to be review editor...i mean, for christsakes, i think hes not even in high school anymore. he doesnt understand these musicians that are doing something new and important. Some of the best music of this summer is on Light woker. Let Us and The hardest part are epic. Brian is getting to old to understand new music. Just look at his reviews. He is like that creepy uncle that you have to see on holidays telling you that back in his day they made good music. The guy is a joke. good 1st release. songs grow on you. Love the CD. I say fuck off too. All these comments are from the same person arent they? Brian wrote a perfectly good review that did not go to overboard with the negativity. This review was very fair. Saw Yesterdays Rising play to prob 1000 people at The Gorge in Washington during Warped Tour. They blew all the main stage bands away. I also noticed that at least 7 main stage band members watched them play and one actually got up on the stage to sing with them. That day I became a fan and waited in line at Best Buy (no local record stores) to buy Lightworker on the day of the release. It has not left my CD player. My take on Brian Shultz is he is getting too old to know/care about good music. You can see it in his tastes. I read both sites but AbsolutePunk.net is run by much younger people who actually like new music. But on old stuff PunkNews gets it right. I agree, this is about a Jason/Brian fight. I agree with the last few comments. Seems like 2 of Brian's fav bands are on Fearless Records. This guy was the one that would have wrote those really bad reviews about "At The Drive In" and then when it became acceptable, said that they are "Gods". Today I lost what was left of my respect for Brian. Lightworker will become a classic album. You are a weasel. A real review: Wow the last writed said what I wanted to say for a long time. But I think it is more than easy to see that this is about Jason Tate and AbsolutePunk.net then it is about Yesterday's Rising. It is well known that Jason loves Yesterday's Rising and has made it very clear. Brian hates the fact that Jason runs a more respected site. Brian is a Whore. Lightworker is the best release of the year. "Just amazing to see that paid reviewer hacks still make a hobby. Because even in the tainted "big time press" its getting harder to find a paid goon like this guy. All one needs to do is trace his "good reviews" and they can find the trail of cheap tips and backstage passes to sway a "bad review" to help other lesser bands and record companies. I know this as a fact. It a shame this was tried on a band as well devloped as Yesterdays Rising as this will come back to haunt this no talent writer's future. We will see you on the way out." Jones is my fucking dog. Back off. this is soooooooooooooo boring Easily the best reviewer on this site. Thanks for not getting sidetracked with bad metaphors. This album is pretty disappointing. I thought they were definitely onto something with their EP (in a glassjaw/snapcase kinda way), but this full-length comes off as a mess of trying too hard to be creative and boundary pushing, when all it is doing is running in pace. jones the bones, you're mad gay. Why are bands still breaking into the scene with this style of music? my body is like a metaphor? |
