ah yes.. I remember it as if it were 9 years ago. It was the begining of a new school year and I was a very happy grade 3 student (and excited since my b-day was coming up). One day, my huge-music-fan teacher said that the next thing that we would be doing was a lip-sync. So we all got put in our groups and all was good except... being 9 years old we didnt exactly go home and listen to our hundreds of records. We were told that we had to choose a song by the end of the week so we could present it the next friday. Of course i suppose my teacher thought that everyone would be doing cute little dances to some of our parents old music. As soon as i got home i told my mom all about what we had to do and she pulled out the old Beatles records. She picked out her favourite song and recorded it onto a tape for me. Naturally i didn't know anything about music so i didn't care what it was. The next morning i woke up all excited cuz it was my birthday and i was a whole 9 years old! only 7 more years til i can drive i thought. I came down the stairs and my step brother (R.I.P.) was waiting for me with a little square thing wrapped in paper. He gave it to me and told me to use it for my project. Then he told me not to show mom the cover. I unwrapped it as i walked to school. i ripped off all the wrapping to see a picture of a girl holding a gun in her hand. It said "Green Day" on the top and "Kerplunk!" on the bottom. Of course i thought i was the coolest kid around then since I owned my very own tape. I got to school and we picked our song. We used "2000 Light Years Away" cuz it was the first one on the tape. After listening to that tape over and over and over it finally wore out just in time for my step bro to buy me "Dookie" on cd.

I totally agree with the guy below me. Being on big labels are so fucking lame, I mean like everyone on majors are fake anti-punx. i like this album, but green day is shit, mtv, fake courprate whores, the lot of them! they say they are punk, but 1/2 of punk is about being on a small record lable, and not doing mtv interviews! what fucking pop culture whores... fucking HATE'EM! i like punk rock with originality not the leather jacket clone punk swho fucked it all up.... i fucking love gd they r awsume and everone should love them or burn in the firey bubps of hell Awesome. Green Day's Best. AMAZING CD or for you tape haha By far Green Day's best. Does this guy know he is supposed to be reviewing an album not giving us his life story! Maybe Greenday's best CD. A very excellent CD. horrible review. next time you do one, enough with the personal life story and get on with the damn review. This is an amazing punk album. No wonder it did as well as it did underground. The only song I don't like is Christy Road and that's because the slow part is boring. Other than that it's a must buy. This was my first punk rock album. Naturally, I'm biased. What is this album like? It's basically the Green Day we all know and love but a little rougher around the edges. The first track, "2000 Light Years Away," is one of the best Green Day songs ever written. Other standouts include an early version of "Welcome to Paradise" and a slower retrospective tune called "Christie Road". There are few surprises like the odd country/humor tune "Dominated Love Slave" which, by the way, is hilarious. If you're wondering whether or not to buy it, I say go for it. The songs are great and although the production quality isn't all that good, it's still definitely worth buying. i really, really liked this album. people need to stop with the reviews that consist mostly of them remembering the "gee whiz!" feeling they got when they got whatever album they're talking about, and actually give a decent review instead of just making the last few sentences about an album say something dumb like "this is a classic album, but you already knew that". at least if you're going to pull shit like that, make it funny like buddyhead. Its pretty dumb to go on here and bash someones review but... since this one wasnt actually a review i guess its ok. Actually, I've never heard this CD, and I'm sure many others are equally clueless about it. I still have no idea what it's like. This is one of Green Day's best along with Dookie, and Insomniac. 17340039 spanked out smoothed slappy whacked hours sucks. Nimrod and Warning are ok. why does everyone always have to be putting everyone else down on this site? i mean yeah this doesnt really review the album at all but who cares? he tells his story about it and how its important to him. besides like that guy down there said, we already know that this is a classic album. ummm good story?...you gonna review the record sometime soon? This album doesn't really need a review....everyone knows how great it is.....Green Day at their best.... hmmm, thats good and all that you found a song to do for your project, but what about the cd? nice 4 and 1/8 lines of review |
