Talent is an interesting dynamic, as it’s not always what it seems to be, or at least, not always used to enhance what it possibly could. In a musical sense, a band with talented members should have no problems whatsoever writing a great record, right? Not necessarily. Talent goes a long way, no doubt about it, but a band still has an obligation to write good songs. Guitar speedster Yngwie Malmsteen obviously harbors an immense amount of talent, but he couldn’t write a song to save his life. Self-professed prog-emo band Gold Standard seems to fall into much the same category as Malmsteen.

this band was great. go put on your white studded belt and shut the fuck up. I think its funny a punk news website it trying to rate a pop-prog band! What the gold Standard lacks is getting naked on stage and wearing spikes! "Hey guys, this will blow people's minds! Let's call the album "Square" and put a fucking circle on the cover!" I mean...they are prog.. Ok so I thought maybe if I stared at that album cover for five minutes I would see some hidden meaning "subliminal message" ...I didn't and I have just wasted five minutes of my life that could have been spent making toaster strudles. | Features
