On Pass The Flask, the Bled revealed themselves as the product of two influences -- not even two bands, but two specific records. The first was Radiohead's The Bends and the second was Converge's When Forever Comes Crashing. Every song could be traced back to those albums, and the result was a harsh, melodic indulgence.

umm. i don't know if i got a defunct album or something but is anyone else's last track on the album like 38 minutes long... 34 of those minutes are basically the same 3 guitar notes? I think this review sums up the album pretty well track 4 shows their musical talent, altho not my favorite, it's a very complex and awesome song, i love this cd. I have to agree, thats one reason i love munoz as a singer, tho hes no whitney houston lol he has a lot of passion in his screaming and singing. his voice just adds to the music that the whole song becomes amazingly passionate and intense and makes u feel whatever emotion...but it makes u feel, be it annoyed or in love or sad or angry or happy, be what it may it makes u feel something. thats how u know they achieved their goal as song makers. C'mon guys, he uses words like "crushing distorted guitars" and "dissonant vocals layered beneath a blah blah blah fucking bed of roses" LOL ya ummmm no im not in the band but i did play at warped tour with them and got to be backstage and watch and chat with the guys and they're really smart and nice. the show they put on!!! :| all i can say...ive never felt a band more then i did when i saw them....these guys put on an intense (very tight) live show. "YA THAT'S RIGHT 9! Reading through these comments is hilarious, are u all critiqueing it as bad to be trendy?...ya thats what i thought. First of all this review was horrible and clearly the writer is a total punkhead and seems to only like the really fast stuff. Now everyone here says "pass the flask" was better. well the thing is neither is better, theyre both great in their different ways. The best point by the writer of this review was that this album was less about aggression unlike "pass the flask". Now don't get me wrong the singer isnt the best of singers but he is decent and has an interesting style that has a lot of emotion in it, which is what music is about isnt it? its about expressing urself not just how crazy u can go. I found this album captures those two contrasts well, while it has its crazy moments it still has nice melodic moments that show that sometimes less is more, its sign of growth. this band's sound is obviously maturing and branching out, and i respect them for such a choice of action. I found the contrasts between the songs made a very listenable album becuz it wasnt just one constant on-going of loud music making it like a story (which it clearly is) rather then just a piece of music for the sake of music. If u didn't like this album that's fine and if u don't like the band that's fine but these are talented musicians who have worked to get where they are and deserve respect for their abilities as a band and as individual musicians, so don't talk shit about them until i see u play better. Yeah the guy below me's mostly right on about why it doesn't suck. Except track 4. Thaat sucks. YA THAT'S RIGHT 9! Nothing sends me running away like saying a band sounds like a cross between two other bands I hate. "to the guy two posts below who hasnt learned to properly cut and paste...what the hell are you talking about with your punk points and shit? what in my comment made you think i care about all that and when you were listening to rkl? I'm gonna reiterate my comment on the Minus The Bear review and say that I haven't given this enough spins yet, but I really don't see it ever being as good as the first album. Man, does that album kick my fucking ass. It totally blew me away the first few times I heard it. 3 stars? Whatever this album is clearly shit. I haven't heard this yet, but I love their first release, so I will give it a few tries before I pass judgement. I often find my opinions change after more than one listen. Writing an opinion after one quick listen through should not be allowed. Am I really the only one that likes this? I'm into my second listen of this and it's rather good. A lot of their previous elements are still there, and even that "My Assasin" single is really well-integrated, somehow. I bought this only because it was 6.99. Needless to say I shouldn't have bought this. I figured if I hated it I could atleast get 5 or 6 bucks for it. I'm gonnoa give it a couple more listens. Once I get a little tired of Minus The Bear and Criteria. OMFG Where's teh Lifetime review?!?! I don't think you can use the words "hardcore" and "the bled" in the same sentence and take yourself seriously, what is it with everybody not knowing what hardcore is nowadays, it seems to be like, "skrappy's kids are gay." Chaos and stuff is cool and all, but it is good to have bands that have melody too. I really like Converge, and I can totally see how they changed the face of hardcore music with their chaotic dissonance. However, I am tired of every "hardcore" band trying to imitate this sound instead of doing their own thing. Chaos and stuff is cool and all, but it is good to have bands that have melody too. I think that in all respects this album is almost every bit as good as Pass the Flask. PTF was an amazing album, and it is implausible for anyone to try to compare new work to it, but the new album comes pretty close. Oh, and were you serious in your comparison to the All-American Rejects? I mean, come on. Seriously. So do these guy sound like All-American Rejects or what? anyone else finding it funny that less than a month ago just about everyone on here was all over aws's nuts and now they are all dogging them? i was just looking through here and noticed that. what happened, they start getting too popular for you guys? "ps. Husker Du was the best melodic hardcore band ever...don't believe me? Listen to their version of Eight Miles High "melodic hardcore" has been done to death and done better a long long time ago!" boring boring boring Good cd...but slightly dissappointing...lacks punch I still get a kick out of their old album. This one has it's moments, and these guys definitely know how to do the metalcore "dropping of the shit" with the open chords, but it gets a bit repetitive and trite. The Bled - Found In The Flood A crappy band sucks? Boggles the mind. ps. Husker Du was the best melodic hardcore band ever...don't believe me? Listen to their version of Eight Miles High "melodic hardcore" has been done to death and done better a long long time ago! I'm still wondering when the AWS is going to come out...for some reason they've re-issued mute print with some new artwork and called it Ruiner...anyone else know when that NEW AWS record's supposed to come out? Aws vs against mevs strung out part 3 2005 Award of the year Contenders: "That new AWS record sounds like a poor man's Artist in the Ambulance...some songs on it are really good but most are just filler." "That new AWS record sounds like a poor man's Artist in the Ambulance...some songs on it are really good but most are just filler." Best thing i read in this article was Drive Like Jehu, then i got bored and tried to rip my eyes out. A High ten for clicheness, next stop for you MTV i'm afriad, and possiblly a mixtape for 12-17 year old boys and girls. this is horrible...I'm so sick of the album of the year shit... 2005 Award of the year Contenders: horrible band. simply horrible. I miss F2F :( -oldpunker- also Automatic 7 Whatever it is, almost every band who had albums previous to being on Vagrant go downhill fast once signing to the label. vagrant ruins another band i dig this album. i do hear the radiohead and glassjaw influences for sure on this album. however this is not a bad thing. personally i like this album better then pass the flask. i had to be in the "right" mood to listen to PTF. why do people like this lame ass fake hardcore? sick of it all and agnostic front, now that's more like it! cmon now people. i rarely listen to any "hardcore" music, but pass the flask was really good. horrible, horrible, horrible. why the hell would anyone want to be glassjaw? The Bled wants to be Glassjaw when it grows up. a lot of high class shit came out today i listened to this last week, thought it was great until track 4 when he started singing. some people should just stick to screaming Anyone know where the Rise Against reissue review is? Wow......my John Doe review isnt up yet? You guys must be really backed up with reviews. Where the HELL is the Every Time I Die review? |
