Come with me, children, and listen to an aural experience like no other. This is about punk. This is about hardcore. This is about pop. It is all of these things and more. It is Hüsker Dü’s first album of 1985, New Day Rising.

Best band ever. Their best Album overall. Better than stinkin Zen Arcade. I bought my ticket to see Bob Mould in Chicago today. I'm really looking forward to it. time to overload on Husker, Sugar, and Body of Song in the upcoming weeks. Husker Du didn't play ArthurFest. Whew! Wait....I just checked Bob Mould's site out.....how could Husker Du reunite tonight if Bob's in England??? Yeah....looks like it was a rumor afterall. IF Husker Du played tonight and I missed it......I'm gonna throw a shit fit. Here's to hoping (if it WAS them tonight) that they reunite and actually tour. That'd be one of my top 5 disbanded bands to see if I could go back in time, along with Black Flag, Flipper, Joy Division, and the Minutemen Yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh... you stupid FUK! "lushj u must be old if u were into these bands when they were "big" on college radio" this album is way better than zen arcade, its one of the best albums ever made fuck. rumor has it that husker du is playing today at arthurfest. if anyone sees this, go check it out. i went yesterday (i'll write a review) and they didn't even check my ticket so you can just walk right in. jello@alternativetentacles.com hey lushj....since you work for AT and all.....I'm just curious, does Jello have an actual email address? I heard he doesnt have a computer. "lushj u must be old if u were into these bands when they were "big" on college radio" Rumor has it that Coq Roq is disbanding uner pressure from Slipknot... Ugh, I'll always regret never being able to sing along to the junkie lament of "Nice Box" in a live setting. lushj u must be old if u were into these bands when they were "big" on college radio Instead of Husker Du, I'm rocking Tesco Vee "Dutch Hercules"- the college rock sound never did it for me. REM, Husker Du, Camper Van Beethoven (except for "Take the Skinheads Bowlming"), all those Athens and Minneapolis bands. Honestly? Never could get into this band or Fugazi. Each band bored the shit out of me when I tried to listen to them. The only thing I've heard by this band is "Land Speed Record", I like that a lot, though, even though it sounds like it was recorded in a tape player. I prefer Spot's production, and I think it perfectly fit the bands at the time. He makes it sound like a very well-produced live record, and I personally think that lends itself better to early to mid-80's indie rock than the era of 32 tracks and whatnot. in spot's defense, he did meat puppets II which sounds, to my ears, absolutely perfect. also...anybody else notice that when Spot quits producing a bands records they suddenly sound a whole lot clearer and crisp? Just look at this compared to the crystal clear production on Flip Your Wig....or the difference between My War and Loose Nut. Spot has produced some of my ALL TIME favorite albums....but I can't help but feel that he simply wasn't very interested in the music. Zen Arcade is Husker Du's "Damaged" or "London Calling" or....you get the point. This is album will always get overshadowed by that album's groundbreaking brilliance. But this album is NO LESS brilliant than Zen. I dunno if it's been said or not, and while I love this album, it still isn't near as good as Zen Arcade. this album is top notch front to back and its about time someone reviewed this! Next up i hope too see Flip Your Wig reviewed. I'm not sure which of the 2 is more amazing This is one of the greatest albs of all time Haha, well consider this the first time I've ever disagreed with anything you've posted! this is one of my favorite albums to pop in my car riding with people drunk, mainly to see the look of surprise on people's faces when they learn that i listen to husker du. i just read our band could be your life, which has in turn caused me to start listening to all my husker du albums again. this used to be my third or fourth fav one, but lately i think it's pushing it's way up to number one. Yeah, somebody had to break up the love fest! Ha ha ha... never could Du this band. Holy shit LushJ, are you serious? Great review, great album (although after "Powerline" I tend to skip quickly through the remaining third of the album. It just doesn't compare to the first 10 songs). I think "NDR" and "Girl Who Lives..." is one of the best one-two punches to open any album ever. I also always loved how the last line of "Folklore" is "..one thing I know for sure: heroes always DIE!!!" They don't write 'em like that anymore. Yuck. "Land Speed Record" = the only listenable Husker Du record. Give me the Replacements any day (up through "Tim"). Shit your right dude, i thought i put that in there, yeah take a listen to that before Zen Arcade, some of their most powerfull stuff is on there. the guy below me forgot to tell you about metal circus which features "Diane" on it... a great song featuring the fucking awesome lyrics "We can cruise down Robbins Street all night long/ But I think I'll just rape you and kill you instead" Try these Album/Ep's/Singles in this order For the longest time, I couldn't get past the first couple songs, but after I did, I was pleasantly surprised. Good stuff. I enjoyed Husker Du the board game, but have never tried Husker Du the band. Where to start? The story behind their name is that they took it from a Danish boardgame called "Hüsker Dü" meaning as you correctly said "Do You Remember", i believe the game is some sort of memory game. I'll say it a thousand times, best band ever, totally fucking weird i was listening to this yesterday, but i guess that's not so werid as i listen to them everyday nearly. Very inovative and intersting band, absolutley paving over any cliches this genre previously had. Great band, great album. This album's cool and all, but Flip Your Wig is some hot shit Dude, I like Candy Apple Grey. I am kind of swayed by the better production, but "Don''t Want To Know If You Are Lonely" and Hardly Getting Over It"? C'mon. Those rock! this is as well my favorite Husker Du record This is such a wonderful record. What's the story behind their name? Cause in danish it means "Do you remember?" First Husker Du album I ever got, and first song I ever heard. I became flat out obsessed when I heard this for the first time and picked up their entire discography within three months. Yeah, this album has some truly great songwriting, but as shallow as it may be, I can't get past the awful production. The guitar sounds in particular are just downright offensive. I wish someone would remaster it already. Grea fuckin' album, but then again....Husker Du is one of those bands that never released anything less than amazing. To the guy below- why don't you like "Turn On The News"....I think it's a pretty killer track. am i the only guy who's favorite husker du album is everything falls apart? man, they've been a favorite of mine for 12 years now. simply put, they're a brilliant band that more people should love. this album is an awesome intro to them if you've never heard them. the guitar part in Friends I Make kills. can't believe you mentioned Turn On The News, probably my least favorite husker track ever, if you're gonna mention zen arcade, you could mention so many better tracks- whatever, newest industry, chartered trips. the fact that you reviewed them at all is cool, hopefully turn more people on to them husker dont lol "Celebrated Summer" is a strong contender for best Husker Du song of all time. my favorite hüsker dü album. pick this shit up. great great album. especially "girl who lives on heaven hill" which walks the fine line between hummably catchy and unlistenably noisy. fuckin genius. great band, solid review. husker du owns. |
