Going to your first "concert" more or less in three years is a very, very strange and unsettling experience. In the summer of 2002, I'd attended that year's Pop Disaster, which, as many of you may recall, featured the two biggest names in pop-punk, Green Day and Blink-182, with Saves The Day on support for my area of the stop. It was at Jones Beach Amphitheater, a rather large, outdoor venue perfect for hosting the giants of the genre, and while I enjoyed the concert immensely, it would be my last one of that size for a long time. By the time I'd seen Rise Against a month later or so, I was basically settled into the habit of seeing bands up close and personal in intimate nightclubs and moderately sized bars. Imagine straying from that setting for nearly three years, only to be thrown into what's essentially the largest scale possible: an NFL stadium. Every little detail made it the perfect metaphor for moving from a small, rural, one-horse town to the busiest city in North America; the 60,000 parents, college students, and fresh-faced, Green Day shirt-clad youngsters were the same people swarming about the city sidewalks; the hundred or so kranky employees running the several dozen food stands were the same ones weaving yellow taxis in and out of bustling, smokey streets; the circular upper tiers making up the top of Giants Stadium were the same as the buildings tall enough to make any remotely curious passerby crane their neck to view the skyward architecture. To go from clear visibility of the performers you've paid to see, to watching Tic Tac-sized objects dance about a stage a quarter mile away is a mindblowing deviation. If I'd been living in and out of whistlestops for three years, East Rutherford, NJ's Giants Stadium was indeed my abrupt reentrance to the big city.

ahh. i agree with every positive in the review. i went and it was byfar one of the best experiences of my life. my local newspaper wrote a review, saying that billie joe's masterbation session was in "bad taste, given the substantial number of preteens in the audience." pssh. i'm sure EVERYONE got off their seats when he began. =] The show was amazing, who cares if they play the same set list? they are a decent band with some decent if not amazing songs...if they repeat em..whats the difference, i'm sure you do the same on your CD player of I-pod when your fav. song plays...its a stupid reason to stop going to their shows b/c they play the same exact same thing...all the more reason to remember...and when you actually experience the show..its awesome. I'm sick of always seeing stereotypical angry "punk" high schooler comments about Green Day not being punk and selling out because they play a bigger show than what we are used to. They have too many fans now and a smaller show is just not possible anymore. So either be happy to see them where they do play or petition for them to play at small clubs that will sell out in 5 minutes and tickets will be available on ebay for $500 a piece. If you don't like it then just don't go. Have your mom drop you off in her van at a smaller show were you can be more punk and your trucker hat and tie can be proudly displayed. Jackasses. what the fuck are you talking about. "Faggot" is a perfectly acceptable insult no matter what age you are. The hard "g"'s and the hard "t" help it to carry an impact of high insult value. if he called you a "stupid head", then you might have a point. but he didn't, so you do not. You guys are all fucking tools. "Faggot? What, are you still in middle school or something? Grow up." "I hope AM fucked with green day" I hope AM fucked with green day Mark from Guttermouth and I go to the same middleschool! ha ha Faggot? What, are you still in middle school or something? Grow up. thye were only nominated for basket case at the 94' grammys not dookie nice try faggot They should do a 21 tour and play stuff from 1,039-insomniac. good show RiseAbove was offended by that comment. no more green day reviews please, it's pointless to keep repeating how they do they exact same thing with supersoakers, etc and play the same fucking setlist every damn night with nothing that wasn't pre planned. "the fact that Against Me! is now opening for Green Day is absolutely insane. Does anyone remember these guys pre-Axl? what happened?" "They never won a dman thing for dookie and it is a classic." Green Day played "2000 Light Years Away" at Reading 2004, but this was just before American Idiot came out. That show was actually very cool, they covered the Ramones, Buzzcocks and The Clash too. Now they just play the same damn show every time. the fact that Against Me! is now opening for Green Day is absolutely insane. Does anyone remember these guys pre-Axl? what happened? damn, my spelling sucks... thought out It's not because it's cool to do so on this site. "Half of the comments are just fucking stupid. As in written by a junior high kid on his parents' computer. Reminds me of "kids who used to live for beer and speed now want their fries and coke."" Half of the comments are just fucking stupid. As in written by a junior high kid on his parents' computer. Reminds me of "kids who used to live for beer and speed now want their fries and coke." "Wait, I don't get it. Just why exactly is everyone complaining about Green Day's live show?" They don't play 2000 Lightyears anymore, or any songs off of Kerplunk! for that matter. Although, it is fun to see Green Day live, but not necesarily for the band themselves. It goes something like this: Score for the people who paid for overpriced tickets. That is like the same setlist from pop disaster. Without all the American Queer songs.. American idiot is like dookie 10 years later we were those twelve year olds.... if green day just put on a regular show without pyrotechnics or destroying every instrument every night, i'll bet the money saved would be enough to end all the problems of the world. The ones complaining about the same show bullshit just need something to complain about. what a gaytastic show this was the worst fucking "show" i've ever been to.... the last time i saw green day is when dookie first came out and i remember them being pretty damn good. And people who post anonymous insults and somehow find a connection between being a self-admitted grammar nazi and liking crap like Dave Matthews are funny. Or do you think I like Dave Matthews because I said I went to college? Ha! did someone just say american idiot sucks? people who come on to messaage boards to pick apart grammar need to stay in their dorm room and whack off to dave matthews band videos fucking poser fag but how bad do you suck at music and shows if the only two shows youve been to in 3 years is the pop disaster shit and this? i only read the first couple sentences, but how bad do you suck at music and shows if the only two shows youve been to in 3 years is the pop disaster shit and this? This score is for The Living End's live shows It's "would HAVE" not "would OF". The last good tour these guys did was with the Living End. I can honestly say that, while Green Day still sounds awesome live, their show is my least favorite thing about them. i just saw them on monday here in montreal. i saw them in november too... the best part is that i could predict when they were gonna do specific things. its the exact same show as in november. that doesnt mean that its not awesome though, i still had a blast. Green Day has been playing the same show for 5 years now...and i don't mean the setlist Wait, I don't get it. Just why exactly is everyone complaining about Green Day's live show? Green Day played a 3 hour show over in Socal last year. :) It's ironic. yeah, it'll never happen. but wouldn't it be nice to see green day play a 21 only tour with a setlist composed of absolutely no radio or tv hits. I guess i just i want to see "Who Wrote Holden Caufield?" live before i die. I hate sounding like 'the old guy' but I saw Green Day years ago right when dookie came out right before they blew up. I've seen them several times since then and I stoped seeing them. I'm sure the idiots here bitching about Green Day's same show for x number of years have a much better show themselves. Score's for the review- good stuff! "I'm sure the idiots here bitching about Green Day's same show for x number of years have a much better show themselves." I'm sure the idiots here bitching about Green Day's same show for x number of years have a much better show themselves. I didn't see the show, but why the hell would Against Me! wanna open for these jerk-offs? when i went there were kids around me that didn't know the words to Basketcase and Longview. Only highlight was that they played Maria which no one knew. They need a new act and setlist this review gave me a headache. Green Day must be making a ton right about now. I can't think of any other explanation as to how they can justify playing the same show for the last 6 years (not including a few songs off American Idiot) to themselves. I'd be bored out of my mind. Heather in Tight Leather Emergency Rooms totally killed Jimmy Eat World. Against Me! playing in a stadium totally compromises what is so great about their live show. Oh well, I just hope they had a good time. Green Day has been playing the same show for 5 years now...and i don't mean the setlist I couldn't even imagine playing to that many people. what the fucks SH going on about down there? Why would you even go to a stadium show? The idea is just awful. Replace JEW with the Souls and that would be quite the fucking show Wait for the AM! backlash and the "RAR" quotes. Yeah, the basements are our arenas alright. People are funny. That's cool that they played "Maria." I love that song. Referring to Billie Joe as BJ is just plain weird. Dude's name isn't BJ; it's Billie Joe. You never abbreviate someone's name like that; shit, man. This is about seven of my reviews put together. |
