The pyramids of Eygpt, the Pharos of Alexandria, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Temple of Artemis, the Statues of Zeus, the Mausoleum at Halicarnaussus, the Colossus of Rhodes. Most people don’t even know the seven wonders of the world, let alone what makes them so wondrous. Right here, right now, I’d like to propose an addition made to the list of wonders entitled: Equal Vision Signing Radio Rock Bands. The name could probably use some work, but the concept of it being a complete and utter mystery remains true.

If distorted vocals are right up your alley and you can’t get enough of Trapt’s new record, you’re in luck, because Fivespeed’s EP Bella will provide you with that and more. The limited edition EP is home to four songs that would be better left to Jared Leto and 30 Seconds to Mars to handle.

Bella's first track “Vegas” offers a chorus that could easily be mistaken for the often-garbled vocals of Chester from Linkin Park. “Are We In,” the EP’s final track and only demo on the release, offers a semi-memorable sing-along of “I am a surprise because we have to live for lies,” but with lyrics like that and others on the release (ex: “Well come on / The tacks are stuck / We’ll burn the map to hide the getaway”) the potential for the presence of a semi-redeeming quality is quickly diminished.

When it’s all said and done, bands like Fivespeed and Seemless create music that may be appealing to some and are even perhaps solid muscians themselves, but their presence on independent labels in the likes Equal Vision is surely questionable.

This crew is incredible live. having heard the new cd i am now a fan. Tight.. very tight.

I found Fivespeed to have a tight, melodic, powerful sound that will stand the test of time. Music must stand the test of time and not just be "different" from what was played yesterday. The immature, or untrained ear wants effects and not art. Fivespeed composes and plays from the heart-there is pain, joy, and hope in their music. Plus, they are better musicians than 90% of the bang and shout bands out there today. They will do well because their music is damned good! Can't wait for Morning Over Midnight."

something tells me the term 'fivespeed' has to do with a car, and not a bike.

whoever mentioned trapt.. that band sucks balls

    awful

Trapt, Linkin Park (pahk to RI), bands that aren't worth the $5 dollars i could spend on their used CD's. comparing to these 2 bands makes me dislike this band without listening to them.

    Dear Superdude,

I don't think you know this but you are very gay when you "write" letters to the bands. It's not funny in the least. Seriously, it's really gay.
So in turn please stop being gay because these bands will not reply to your dumbass comments the way you will respond to what I have just written.

i think their bassist got me into warped tour a few years ago after i lost my ticket. that's worth at least some points.

I found this used for $2 and picked it up because people were saying that it was actually good. Those people were wrong.

This stinks and I don't like it.

and doing a ep on an indie before they jump to the majors for cred makes them worth praising?

    it's lame.

    LAAAAAAAAAME - chris reeve style.

um fivespeed is not signed to EVR. theyre just doing the whole EP release on an independent, followed by a full length on a major. btw this band blows away alot of other rock bands out today..with that being said im really looking forward for the full length.

    crazytoledo (September 27, 2005)

I really liked both of the Trapt albums, the new one more than their s/t major debut, and I dont like this except at a rare few moments.

    Xposed.

    crazytoledo (September 27, 2005)

There not all that bad at times...

    superdude (September 27, 2005)

    Dear Fivespeed,

Just to set the record straight, I have a 24 speed at home, and I really hope that doesn’t make you feel insecure. You shouldn’t feel insecure.

Well, maybe according to that review you should feel insecure. But frig it. Let loose! Ain’t no mountain high enough.

    Tina Turner. All that jazz.

Hey, maybe punk rock can be Tina Turner and you can be Ike. Or we can do Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown if you’d like.

Whatever you want. We’re doing this for you.

Punk rock may not be dead, but it appears to have suffered at least a stroke.

Formerly great labels are putting out shit no one wants to listen to, most bands are more fashion than substance, and it's making everyone who used to care completely apathetic about it all.

It's time for something new, something that actually means something.

there sure were alot of killer albums reviewed this week.
