Reviews

Okay. Look at the cover art to the right. That’s how most of this album sounds. It blasts open with “Black Thunder” and I feel like I’m riding that beast of a horse. I’m holding that lightning bolt in one hand (sometimes I pretend it’s a sword if I’m in the mood) and using all my might to reign in that beast with my other (I know homeboy has got a sickle in the art, but this is my review). Can you feel that? Can you put yourself on Black Thunder?

That should be enough to describe this band’s sound, but I’m feeling generous, so I will throw one more word out there. galloping. From the guitar, to the bass, to the drums, all are galloping.

Now, the flow of the album is kind of botched with the slower “Midnight Eye,” which has some singing that is reminiscent of Danzig. “Fuck This Shit,” a rather forgettable song, follows it. The pace is brought up again for a couple tracks only to be dropped by the instrumental “Voice of Fire.” None of those tracks are necessarily bad; they just get in the way of the general ass-kicking that’s done by the rest of Black Thunder.

After the instrumental, I’m back up on the horse, galloping through the streets and wrecking shop for a couple tracks, before “Sirens” properly winds down and closes the album out.

    My Score:

This album rocked the panties off of my girl! It's a kick ass album with a good combination of sludge metal and skate punk. For fans of Kylesa, Motorhead or anything that produces a desire to get really drunk and ride on the roof of a car at 90 miles an hour!

I wouldn't consider it an 'ode,' because that implies Chinatown is in a position of high esteem. More a satire, maybe.

    Regardless, great review.

This review was pretty good, but here's how I would make it better:

    1. Like you're even going to listen to me.

    2. I happen to think the cover is kind of scary. Look at that guy.

    3. I went to the record store and asked to see the "galloping" section. They don't have one.

    4. So what am I supposed to do?

    5. I'm still pushing for CDs to come with holograms in them. Whaddya think?

    My Score:

Doomriders are spot-on tight live, and Nate is a hilarious frontman. After every single song: "YEAAAAAAHHHHHH. THIS IS A PARTY. ROCK AND ROLL."

I thought this album would suck but it was amazing

    My Score:

I've heard a lot of Danzig/Motorhead/rock and roll whatever "...but more!!!" comparisons to this, and that's definately promising. I will have to listen to it more, though.

There was a limited vinyl run to this, and I think it's almost sold out already, I don't know. It would definately be better on vinyl, I just have that feeling.

That was a great review Jones. If someone cant tell how this sounds form the cover art alone then, well, I pity them.

This album is good, but can be boring if you aren't in the mood for it.

Jones, if I hadn't seen them live before, I would have no clue what they sound like after reading this review, but that's okay, because I got a good laugh out of it.

Posted by TheOneTrueBill on 2005-10-07 00:05:27

    But do they growl?
