Bad Religion - New Maps of Hell (Deluxe)

I hate Bracket. I should be able to end the review right there, but I'm sure if I did, John wouldn't print it. So, I'll go into detail about the new album. It's 13 songs long, and there is actually a good song on here - "Everyone Is Telling Me I'll Never Win If I Fall In Love With A Girl From Marin" [yes, that is the actual song title]. Everything else on here just sounds like typical Bracket. They always end up on the more pop than punk side of things, and this record is no exception. I really can't tell you why I dislike this band. I mean, it's not like I champion Fat Wreck for quality skate punk or something. In fact, there's only a few bands on Fat that I really like, so my hatred is not from a label bias. It might come from the singer's high-pitched voice driving me absolutely nuts. It might come from the country influence that shows up in too many songs for me to be comfortable with. It might be because people like their band and they don't like mine. Whatever the reason is, the point remains that I do not like Bracket, and probably never will. I just don't understand what people see in these guys.

    Sucky review, waste of time.

    My Score:

Score is for the review. Obviously the reviewer has neither graduated from any level of schooling nor thought better of passing a review of a band he doesn't like instead of giving a completely bullshit, biased review. Keep in mind, this is the same reviewer that gave Just One More 2 stars.

The reviewer is right on. This band is just awful. The singer can't sing at all. Their music sounds thin. I just don't get it.

Dude, that's a terrible review. It's a good band. Don't give it one star just cause you don't like their sound, especially if you can't come up with any good reasons why you don't.

I tend to like hard music. And this definitively isn't. Some would say it's gay.

But listening to it makes me happy

I love this album even though it might not be punk. Call it emo. Call it pop. Call it what ever the fuck you want. It's still good.

I don't see what people DON'T see in Bracket. So what, they're on Fat. With the exception of a few bands, Fat is an awesome record company. Bracket's singer's voice is just great. I'm sorry, Scott, but I believe that just because someone's on a label that everyone else loves to hate doesn't mean that they suck.

Have any of you sat down and really listened to what is going on in any bracketsong? 'everyone is telling me.....' is probably one of the simplest songs bracket has done. It was the one I really didn't like, because it didn't sound up to par for them. Everything is so brilliantly layered. Poor people that can't appreciate good musicianship. This band is overflowing with talent! Seriously if you own this album and don't like it?..listen to it again and listen for the things being done in the background of the music, there are melodies within their melodies....you'll think to yourself 'HOLY SHIT!!!!, how in the hell did I not notice that little riff he was did' Cause once you hear the first, more will follow until you do believe that this album was really good!

    My Score:

I got this cd expecting something good, it is not very good, it is real poppy and almost reminds me of that real bad pop band fastball. "Everyone is telling me I will never win..." is the only good song on the cd.

    My Score:

I seriously love this CD. I guess I'm one of the few who can appreciate what Bracket does. But I've never heard anyone else like them, and I'll be happy as long as they keep doing this. I guess the best way to describe this CD is really happy, jolly, catchy pop-punk. It's just a fun CD.

Novelty Forever was horrible, I think. So if that's all you've heard by them, then give this one a chance.

    My Score:

Bracket plays their music and they do it well. There is never any doubt that a Bracket song is just that. I like to think of it as Punkish music you can get away with listening to in the presence of your boss or mom. Sure, they're not your average Fat band - but we all know how boring the Same Old Shyte gets... kudos to Bracket for not abandoning their sound for one that sells more records to people that are just too darn punk to enjoy a pop-sounding melody.
