All too often young bands wear their influences on their sleeves. Instead of incorporating a sound, they merely seek to replicate it, sometimes consciously and sometimes unconsciously. I’m not sure if the Finale would own up to it, but their album Things Can Still Get Better plays like a reworking of the Ataris' Blue Skies, Broken Hearts…Next 12 Exits.

I agree with that previous comment about the Ataris. Furthermore I didn't see as much resemblance in this music with The Ataris as the reviewer does. I thought this was a pretty decent debut which indeed does sound like pop-punk, but I think The Ataris were much more away from a band like Blink to name that other icon than this band is. It's true that nothing innovative is going on here, but I never cared about that. I thought it had great guitars good vocal harmonies and was just fun to listen to. the ataris weren't exactly revolutionaries. they were ripping off every band before them, too. Anyway, pop punk of this kind is a lot more appealing to me than the "screamo" as of late. |
