When you think of the words "boston hardcore" you think of such bands as In My Eyes, Fastbreak, or Converge, which have a more brutal, metal sound to them.

When I heard Reach the Sky, honestly I was expecting it to sound like all their boston hardcore peers. The music is fast, the backups are all there, but singer Ian larrabe's voice is kinda halfway between singing and screaming, which is good to hear once in a while.

This was their first full length for Victory, and this record had a lot of people talking about Reach the Sky...comparing them to their emotion drenched "youth crew" peers Chain of Strength, No for An Answer, Bold, and others.

The album starts off with "maybe next year" which sounds like well, every other song on the album, really thats the only problem I have with this record, you can't really differentiate between songs. But it works out even since every song kicks ass.

"the chase is on", "she really loved you", "first few days", "everybody's hero" will all knock you on your ass and leave you wondering what the fuck just hit you.

If you want to hear more of this band, definitley check out this release. I have had this for 2 years and it has been one of my favorites. also check out "Friends, Lies and the End of the World" which is slowed down a bit from this record, but is more musically diverse with more elements of punk, hardcore and even emo in there.

right, right. i forgot blood for blood. those guys are pretty good. still though, ime was an amazing band... the only truly awesome band to come from the boston scene recently, though blood for blood are a pretty close second.

as a clarification of my previous review: i'm talking "can't slow down" era saves the day. but also, i forgot to mention the "hardcore edge" (hahahaha!) ala other bad boston hardcore bands (i mean, let's face it, the only good hardcore band to come out of boston in the last ten years was in my eyes. sad but true) that again, makes it cool for hardcore kids to like this album.

    My Score:

jesus fucking awful. imagine saves the day with less talent, less vocal range, simpler melodies, and stupider lyrics (yes, amazing but true). plus, i agree with a previous reviewer, every goddamn song (a) sounds the same, and (b) sounds like it's taken from the same set of lyrics. but that's ok though, cause all those cool hardcore kids (especially those who represent boston) that hate emo are down with this... i guess it pays to be a scenester.
