This is by far my most favorite record by Jawbreaker. I believe I first heard this in '92 when friend of mine introduced me to them..In those days I was into the whole Down by Law, Pennywise, NOFX - the Epitaph scene. (which there is nothing wrong with), So this took a while to get used to because this sounded nothing like the punk I was listening to at the time. The overall quality isn't all that good, but it just hits you in a way that their other albums don't. "want" is an amazing song, and I knew just by hearing it, that this album would soon change me. Actually this was one of the first bands who opened my mind to the different styles of punk rock. This album is a true rarity in my book, it's one of the few where I can get into each and every song. I can't seem to do that with other Jawbreaker records. "fineday", "imaginary war", "wound", "down", "eye 5" are just a few great songs that come to mind... This is a band that has paved the way for so many expierimental acts to follow in their footsteps, but can't quite fill their shoes, and for good reason you just can't imitate Jawbreaker. They had their own trademark sound which it seems like no other could copy.
In short, this band is amazing, If you haven't heard Jawbreaker I highly suggest you get this album, it shows the band in their early stages and in their simplicity and rawness. I wish they were still around, but they have moved on to better things I guess (You've seen members in bands like J-Church and Horace Pinker to name some) But this truly remains a classic to me.

such an AMAZING album! it's my favorite that i've heard from them so far. i only have this one, Bivouac, and Dear You. i want 24 Hour Revenge Therapy.. Seethruskin = amazing My score was supposed to be 4 stars not 2 Not counting the Whack and Blight EP the first half of this album (1-6) are all amazing; the second half is..different? It sounds like the vocals are lower on the second half at least to me. Score is for the REVIEW, which is an absolute piece of shat.... This album swallows 24 Hour Revenge Therapy. There's a relation among these two albums similar as Hüsker Dü's (a big influence on Jaw.) Zen Arcade and New Day Rising. The laters are considered (i wonder why) as their finest records, but the formers are filled with more creative, rawer, and influential music way ahead of its time. This band was not capable of making a bad record. I love this band so much...this is great album...one of the best hey hey i'm pretty sure that lifetime songs always wanted to sound like chesterfeild kings. there was definatly a similarity but the fact that jawbreaker was all over the place kind of messes up any comparisons but i think ari often immitated blakes vocals. anway saves the day ripped of both lifetime for the sound of the first album and jawbreaker for the title of the second. ps i hope everyone knows that when i say choke i mean gutless haha. lifetime sounds like Jawbreaker!! you've been drinking haven't you. both are unbelievable bands, but they sound absolutely nothing alike.- fathead No, Saves the day sound like lifetime..well, not anymore... ...and lifetime doesnt sound like STD, they sound like jawbreaker! every mix tape i make has at least one jawbreaker song on it. it's fucking classic boys.... this album is so great because it has such a get your shit together, be acountable, and change the world starting with yourself vibe. songs like incomplete, busy, down, and choke all convey that theme. its totally differnt from the rest of their albums but its still great. Damn I was working on one for as friends rust CRAZY!! oh well, go ahead and take it its cool What's Jawbreaker....the first time I heard from them was when Lagwagon cover Want...Amazing song and since I bought that crazy records...Fucking great!! No, but I did one for Dropkick's "Do Or Die" and I'm working on one for As Friend's Rust and Planes Mistaken for Stars... Ha!...well sickboi..I hope you didnt send any reviews for avail's one wrench or Hot Water music's forever and counting. that would be really weird...but funny. ok, this is the ONLY Jawbreaker i don't have.(I've never even heard it, except for 'want') can you believe it! anyway, coldjuly says it's his favorite, and so do a couple friends of mine. but then, i know a couple people who consider this Jawbreaker's worst by far! I don't know what to believe. Guess i'll just have to get it myself. i talk a lot of shit to everyone, but any fan of Jawbreaker is cool in my book.ROCK- fathead Damn Coldjuly, damn Fathead. You guys are always submitting a review that I was just going to send. Oh well, damn good album. I don't really care for Jets to Brazil but Jawbreaker is tha shit. I couldn't agree more. Great album, great band, and even though I did enjoy Jets to Brazil, it isn't even close... |
