With bands such as Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Unearth, and All That Remains all coming from New England, it’s only fitting that Ligeia make the same strides as the previously mentioned bands and rise to popularity. The comparison doesn’t even end there, as the band’s full-length is produced by Unearth’s Ken Susi, and they signed to Ferret Records like Killswitch Engage did for their own debut. So the question is, is the next New England buzz band worth the hype?

Ligeia’s sound can be described as the mainstream equivalent of a Poison the Well / Mikoto hybrid. Ligeia effortlessly blends chaotic metal with hardcore breakdowns and clean, melodic singing. At the heavier portions of the song, the metallic sound is easily reminiscent of recent Poison the Well. The use of harsh shouting and clean, melodic singing is used in a style similar to Mikoto and is stronger than a lot of similar bands. While the lack of originality can be spotted from a mile away, Ligeia manage to keep themselves up to par with the metalcore genre.

On tracks such as "Beyond a Doubt" and "Heart Attack," the band blends crunchy and distorted metal riffs with melodic guitar lines and hardcore breakdowns. None of the areas really excel to the top of the line, but the mix of styles at least keeps it interesting. Keith Holuk’s singing is also dead on and keeps the songs from being generic. The only fault with the clean vocals is how you can easily make out such poor lines as "Happiness, I heard / is a heart attack."

Ligeia’s main marketing point is their location, and it’s hard to argue with that. While they can’t get it all together to be on par with Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, or Unearth, they at least manage to craft a release that is somewhat memorable and better than a majority of the releases by new bands playing this genre. With time, I could easily see this band exploding and follow the same path that Killswitch Engage did. But if they’re going to go down that road, some work will definitely be needed to help Ligeia establish their own sound.

I like this cd. It combines the passion of hardcore and melodic hardcore (minus the fucking repitiveness) with the fierce yet overused attack of metalcore. If you havent listened to this whole album then you really have no idea what's up. If you have and still don't like it then it's not youre deak. Some people hate metalcore and some people hate melodic shit.

Best Buy never has this album in. So for now I have to stick to the album stream, maybe I'll find it tonight.

And boy have some of those choruses got into my head even more.

This album sucks. Let's just hope the new Misery Signals CD isn't this bad.

Also, anyone who thinks a Remembering Never CD is the best hardcore CD in ages probably wears cut-off camo shorts and says things like 'Sick Mosh, BRAH!"

I like Howard more than Jesse at times and vice versa.

Howard is better around the clean parts and Jesse has a slightly better, but similar, shout.

i bought the KILLSWITCH ENGAGE dvd and its absolutely the lamest shit i have ever seen. i remember seeing these guys freak out and brigning crazy mosh and stuff, but now with BHBS's Howie, all they do is dress up in capes, talk about boning bitches, and raise the devil horns EVERY FUCKING SECOND THEY CAN!!!

The Remembering Never CD is pkay, nothing great, but nothing bad. Ligeia is a little better.

'God Save Us' is their best CD overall, with an effective cameo by the ex-vocalist of Comeback Kid. My favorite RN song is off of 'Women And Children Die First,' and that's 'Plotting Revolution In a Minor.'

I don't care for the message based crap that is barked out but it's an okay album.

But Ferret has done pretty good so for.

I dont care for In Flames new stuff, but I like the band. Releases by Scarlet only tighten things up.

This label isn't that bad overall, the problem is only around a fourth of the people that comment on the bands actually listen to them.

It's annoying to see people flat out say 'I haven't heard this band but becaome of their name or record label, they probably suck and I'm not going to listen to them' when there talking about bands like Between the Buried and Me and Scarlet.

I'll agree & disagree with you on this one. I think it is possible for someone to like this shit. Not a lot of people, but people with really bad taste in music. He/she is working for Ferret though. I mean, could someone not working with Ferret honestly say something like:

This CD fucking kills! There's also a stream of the album in its entirety at www.FerretStyle.com. The band really does mix together all of the popular heavy sounds, but does it in a way where it actually feels new and refreshing.

The vocalist sounds like the dude from PTW when he does his lower screams and pulls of shrieks like Efrem from Death By STereo. His melodic vocals range between that dude from It Dies Today to once again Efrem from Death By STereo. All of this is a good thing.

This CD defintely continues to keeps Ferret's positive roll going as this lable has been ptting out nothing but near-perfect CDs this year!

Also check out the new Remembering Never. Hands down, best CD this year and possibly the best of this decade so far. It is the most honest and direct CD I've heard in ages!

I've only heard the streams, but you have to give Ferret a lot of credit for finding the really good bands in this genre; Scarlet, Zao, A Life Once Lost, Misery Signals and now Ligeia; genuinely interesting bands all.
