Some people argue that writing a review about a band you love is a conflict of interest; I'm not sure why that would be, after all, the biggest fans are usually the harshest critics, but nonetheless, it should be clear that your humble writer is a fan; not just of their last, TVT release, A Place Called Home, but of their triumphant Revelation-era releases, and even beyond that. Ignite is a band that has managed to write increasingly memorable releases and over a lengthy career, to define themselves as a band of both ethical and music integrity and overwhelming talent, and these are scarce and valuable resources.

with the execption of the first song, this is terrible radio rock...quit hustling the kids using the name Ignite! its ruling my summer! i'll be listening to this all summer the same way you older dudes did pennywise in 96. punk will never die. Awesome! i liked this album a lot Jesus Christ this album is amazing. Love the shit out of it and love it more with every listen. oh dear, this is one of the best hardcore albums in years. Pick up the new NMDS because it's seriously fucking good as hell. It shreds No Trigger, Ignite, and shitty old Bigwig. Still, the cover of "Sunday Bloody Sunday"seemed to lack depth. I think teglas is Czech or Croatan. The song is very Irish and very personal I liked the last acoustic song on the the last track though I don't know the song title. It's no "Call On MY Brothers" but definitely "Past Our Means". they sound exactly like this band eggghhh, fuck u2. besides that, i like this much but his voice is hard to get into. he's got talent but it's very awkward to me. anyone else feel that way? Every single person on this site claimed Oh Calutta was the best thing eva, despite it's huge flaws. I'm not so sure why I have to like this album. Saying that people that think another record is better than this is automatically a lemming... well isn't that sort of lemming environment behavior? There was far less universal praise for Oh! Calcutta!, an album which is basically a traditional Chicago punk rock album (short, fast, loud). By contrast, this is much less punk and I can see how someone who might come to this site from a punk background wouldn't like the cheesey (though skilled) vocals and formulaic song writing. how can anyone not like this? I never really got into A Place Called Home, but this is looking very appealing. I will probably pick it up at some point. It will be a random, spontaneous purchase. This is out already? I've heard this band on comps and they never really did anything for me. Midtempo hardcore has never made any sense to me - it always sounds like emasculated metal. I really love this album. It's one of those albums that's really good and it's easy to get into on the first listen. I'm suprised there is so much positive reasponse considering the accesibility of the music. Most stuff that is this listener friendly get's smashed on these boards. worth the 6 year wait. best album of the year so far. zoli has the most amazing voice in punk/hardcore. The first 6/7 are very, very good. ive never really thought of ignite as hardcore, but i guess i can see that line of reasoning. up there with ohcalcutta, gold record, none more black for album of the year but just a little short of those three. Probably not my favourite Ignite release, but then again, even the "least" of Ignite's work is better than most of the stuff being released nowadays. Really? Album of the year. I've liked Ignite since last decade and had been looking forward to this with a huge weight of expectation. I have to say the first time I heard this (after my inital euphoria/notalgia faded) I was quite disappointed. So fucking good. Love this album. Zoli rocks it like Sammy Haggar. i knew someone was going to say it from the moment i posted it. As i said in my previous comment, i feel Ignite have evolved from album to album in what concernes the style they played. By that, i mean this album picks up from where A place called home left of after evolving from Call On My Brothers. That is the reason why it's easier to me to compare this album with A Place Called Home. As for the other releases i didn't include them in the comparison, because not only have they got pretty much the same songs in various mixes to form different releases, but also because neither can be called a full length. Not to be snide, but I wonder how many people are only going to compare Our Darkest Days to A Place Called Home, but not Call On My Brothers... there is a bigger frame of reference at work here and APCH definitely doesn't give Ignite's full picture. I like it a lot, though not as much as A Place Called Home. I think Ignite has consistently evolved and developed in a way that is easy for someone that doesn't even know them, to order their discography from least to most recent, and still clearly distinguish Ignite's albums with the albums released by other bands in the same genre/style. sure, this shit is kinda cheesy. it's also kinda amazing in every possible way. one of those albums that just repeats in your head for weeks. i like a band that releases good stuff, instead of floating the stores with a mediocre album every year. Most of the great bands only had 2 or 3 albums (negative approach, gorilla biscuits, minor threat) and all those shitty bands have 10 records and 5 singles out (there are a few exceptions but this is a generalization that is necessary) "Lengthy career"? this album is unbelievably cheesey, i don't get it Album of the year. 4 and a half? Really? great album, even if it did leak 2 months early. I'm surprised the review doesnt mention "Slowdown" - the best song on the album. rock and fucking roll on this one. this record is fucking AMAZING, they really did it I thought it sounded like an entire disc of 'A Place Called Home' B-Sides. It's really good and produced well, but nothing really stands out. Definitely not worth the wait. Yesssss |
