To see that this album wasn't reviewed kinda shocked me. Whole Wheat Bread isn't the biggest band, but big enough to have their album reviewed by now.

Oh, and Fuck you Crasshole I love this band, as well as this CD. I just got it a few days ago, and I have listened to it at least 5 or 6 times. Its quite the amazing CD. The bonus tracks are really neat as well. As far as them sounding like old green day, or blink 182...I hate it when people say that! This band for sure is deffinitley really poppy. But still, way better than blink 182 or old green day. Old Green Day and Blink 182 should be looking up to WWB. I hate the consistant comparison. WWB is much better than both of those bands. These guys are asses.. They told me to quit skating the bowl at the Orlando skatepark and go else where so they could play dead on the bottom and take pikturz. I had the urge to cannon ball in and land on their chests. Boo hoo. "The only reason anyone listens to them is because they're black people playing "white people music." why is this a gimmick? because theyre not white and they have a mix of influences incorporated into their sound... This band kicks ass. I heard them in concert the other day and this C.D. does them no justice. They rock so much harder live. You can't really feel the music on this c.d. but in person they rock. It was a great concert. This reviewer is on crack. I didn't even read the review, I saw 4 stars and am calling bullshit. This band is HORRIBLE. it's the most generic, un-catchy, boring "pop punk" I've heard in years. The only reason anyone listens to them is because they're black people playing "white people music." And maybe because their agent keeps putting them on tours with the same 3 ska bands and even the worst music can grow on you if you hear it enough. i had a long ass discussion with a stoner buddy (who's black, not suburban black either, 'nigga black') and rap music and shit definitely IS a culture. Gee wiz, winner of the punk news message board debate team!!! Will - who's up for a friday night kumbaya-athon? anybody? and yes, holding of hands is involved and i'm not talking that fake finger grasping shit either. I will fucking tear you apart at this since I'm smarter than you Uh, what? I never said anything about Dead Prez or Mos Def. I enjoy albums by both of those artists. I've never said all hip hop is negative. I said the majority of mainstream rap is. I don't get it. No matter what I type here, you're going to accuse me of being wrong and racist and misunderstanding with out-of-the-blue comments. You switched your argument from "fuck you, racist blah blah blah" to "mainstream rap isn't bad!" to "not all hip hop is mainstream!" and I don't even fucking know what you're trying to get at, besides pathetically trying to show me up on the message board because my opinions usually aren't popular. If you want to disagree with me, fine. But if you're going to try to debate stuff, have a fucking coherent argument and don't step up trying to just boost your ego, because I will fucking tear you apart at this since I'm smarter than you. good point on Dead Prez... i'm not a big fan of hip hop, but they're one of the few artists i really enjoy. I'd like to hear Will's take on artists like Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, Mos Def and the Roots. They embrace the "ghetto culture", but speak about the downside of poverty and continuous struggle to break out of it. "A problem with what? Hip hop? i think i have to agree with will somewhat, but maybe i just like articulate message board conversations haha One of the best pop-punk albums I've heard in a while. Also an energetic live show. I'm seeing them again next week with Reel Big Fish and Streetlight Manifesto. Rock on. "if you do have a problem with that, then yes, you believe in white supremacy. you believe that white culture is inherently better than black culture." To everyone waxing philosophical about hip-hop music and "ghetto culture:" I can't speak for everyone, but the reason I used the adjective "mainstream" was to separate that crap from intelligent, underground rap. some of you are criticizing mainstream rap for promoting "negativity" among black youth.. but you should not blame the ENTIRE hip-hop culture for that, which it seems you are doing. I thought mainstream rap dropped the gangsta image a while ago. It seems everything I've heard recently makes that stuff looks substantial, as all the new singles seem to be about dancing at clubs and how hot girls are. Maybe I'm wrong and I haven't heard a whole lot of mainstream rap recently, which would be a good thing for me. picked this up for a buck. wonder if it will be worth that buck. Why do you hate me Will? I like how you guys try to goad Will into responses, and then when he actually responds in a intelligent manner you spazz out and take everything he says out of context. I do the same things sometimes. It is a fun game. Okay, it's a good thing I don't live my life attempting to validate myself to some jerkoff from a message board whom I've never me "Will, have you ever been in a ghetto? Ever known anyone that has?" Will, have you ever been in a ghetto? Ever known anyone that has? "Believe it or not Will, but the ghetto lifestyle has become a fucking culture. Doesn't mean they are all selling crack and shooting people. You are so fucking thick." i think wwb walks the fine line of gimmick band or not but ultimately, i don't see it. i understand how they could be called a gimmick band because we see how much they flaunt their hip-hop culture and background. but then you have to ask yourself, if that's who they really are in real life, then how can it be a gimmick? maybe they add some flavor to their live show but that's harmless and hardly reason to label them as a gimmick. We totally need to start a internet support group for our kind... Owch, I felt that one from here. Is working at the Science Museum, all day on AIM, the real world? It's just plain racist to call this band a gimmick unless you have some sort of intimate knowledge of how they came to be a band. I would seriously consider hitting people if said people said some stupid shit like that. Don't listen to Sickboi, Will. Well put sickboi. I agree 100%. Score is for that. "Ghetto Trash"? "the matisyahu of punk rock" Okay, I forgot that people with the internet don't have ethnic heritage and cannot be minorities. Sorry, my mistake. You're "the man." "There's no doubt that a lot of minorities' cultures (including my own, Croatian) can be as fucked up as mainstream white peoples'. It's up to us as minorities..." Ha, even though Brian just wrote one of the most ridiculous non-flame bait posts since people actually felt sorry for Billy Talent an hour or so ago, I suppose he had the best of intentions. "Spoken like a true white kid" white suburbia rekognize foo! he only time we're going to get past racism is when we stop talking about "races" and seeing "differences" in people. so i dont see why you guys are all up in arms about them being black and pointing it out. i think these guys are great. since we're all part of the human species, we're all the same race. so i dont see why you guys are all up in arms about them being black and pointing it out. "When I say 'kill,' you say 'whitey!'" It'd be great if they were trying to do something different. What they're doing is Limp Bizkit-esque raps with MXPX-esque songs. "Not only that but they act like they blend rap and punk? No. I saw them live and they do stupid acapella "freestyles" in between songs." this band sucks. people just pretend to like them because they think its like racism or something to say that they are a pathetic band. its seriously terrible music. boring. First, this band is terrible. Just bad, terrible music. When I saw them in concert, they said "pop-punk isn't 13 year old white girl music, this is real nigga music right here". Dante - when I found out about these guys I found it awesome and hilarious at the same time. come on, black punkrockers? they look like rappers! great stuff! generally I think that poppunk sucks ass, but in my eyes these guys have that "something" to stand out (besides being black, of course). The label is not an incubator. There is no major backing. Dave King is from Ireland, not LA. He happened to live in LA after his band Fastway broke up. That is where he formed Flogging Molly. Who cares if WWB bring up the fact that they're black? Every time I've had the misfortune of seeing the Dropkick Murphys at warped, I've have to deal with retards who bring big huge irish flags with them. Never had to deal with gang bangers at a WWB show. WWB is also from Jacksonville. I don't know if you've ever been to Jacksonville, but they still have a lot of nazis and kkk types hanging out down there. I think it's great that they say shit like "who came to see some black people?!" I can also see the humor that is implied. the matisyahu of punk rock "Whole Wheat Bread is because they consistently shove the fact down your throat. Look at their name." Solid. It's good to see punk music becoming less monochromatic. Also, Dave King is Irish. Flogging Molly is from LA. Damn it feels good to be a punxsta I can't think of any white rappers that remind their audience that they're white in a predominantly black music scene. It seems like a rare thing to happen, but I actually agree with inagreendase on this one. I don't care that they're black, because music is music, and that's all there is to it. But when you're constantly taunting the fact that you're a different color in a predominantly white music scene, it doesn't help. I can't think of any white rappers that remind their audience that they're white in a predominantly black music scene. Very fun to see live, very cool and down to earth guys. And yes, they are black, and let you know it. Flogging Molly are Irish, they let you know it. Mike Park is Asian, he sure as hell lets you know it. Move on. ps-i guarantee these dudes started this band ONLY to fuck underage white girls. wow, four stars?! I love it. Suddenly a band comes out that isn't singing about the white suburban struggle and it's a gimmick. Anyone questioning these guys should watch the interview I did with them: They suuuuuuuck. 4 stars for this garbage. are you guys serious??? my friend once said it best...... I don't know why people freak out and scream gimmick at the mear mention of this band's name. Gimmick or no gimmick it's pretty harmless and a really silly thing to get hung up on. And here's a news flash for you: Every band has a gimmick on varying levels of cheese. So chill the fuck out. i saw these guys live last night and they were absolutely incredible like them Gimmick? I'm sorry, but I doubt these guys planned to be born black so they could, twenty years later, form a small indie pop-punk band. these guys blow. Where is a review of one of these new Rancid shows? i like this band a lot. can't wait to see them again in a couple weeks. yes, because black people who play guitars are automatically influenced by the bad brains or jimi hendrix. Their wepage compares them to Bad Brains, then says they draw on a wide variety of influences, from Rancid to Green Day. Just saw them open for rancid 2 nights ago, rancid were amazing. these guys were really entertaining, some hip hop, some hard core, some rap. good shit. RKL: When I get a wireless card for my computer and am on AIM again, I'll try. Right now, I'm back and forth between my roommate's computer and my wife's laptop. black-182?! hahahh, genius! I really really really really cannot stand this band. I want to like them because they seem like they're just in it for the fun and for the music, but the only songs I can tolerate are Old Man Sampson and Symbol of Hope. Symbol of Hope really fucking rules though. I put off reviewing this for so long, so thanks. scruffy: i demand that you send me this album so that i can determine whether your comments are correct, or if you are just drunk. I've seen them maybe three times, but no less than twice, and I have to agree that they seem to put on a better show every time you see them. They're just straight, fast pop-punk. So, if you guys are posting reviews of older CDs again, is my review of Farside's The Monroe Doctrine going to go up? 'Cause it's a travesty more people don't own that album. It should be up there with Dear You and Clarity. No mention of "Scar Your Lungs?" That song rules. |
