I know half of the readers on this site are gonna jump right into this review with a mouthful of smart-ass comments on how this is called S.C.E.N.E. Fest, but the festival's acronym stands for St. Catherine’s Event for New Entertainment, and has been up and running for 11 years. It's been one of the largest all-ages independent music festivals in Canada, and attracts thousands of kids from all over every year, most of them coming from the Greater Toronto Area.

I drove 3 hours and paid $25. Fucked Up is by no means underrated or overlooked. Good call guy Keep it Up rocked, O'Toole's probably the nicest guy you'd ever meet...he's not an egotist and treats people with ultimate respect. Plus, he and Doug Haydon ran the mix-CD exchange, which is the ultimate participatory event of the day. I'm biased, but I love the guy. i thought you meant 6 stars. Correction: BNO used to be a pretty good band. Key word. Used. That works two ways. you only gave it 3 1/2 stars which is a 7 which isnt that much better. and how can you not like BNO if your such a fan of moneen theyre friends and going on tour together, not to mention they play pretty decent music. yeah i would have rated it 6 too if i listened to shite like BNO and Summer Hero. I was at SCENE and I didnt think it was the best festival I've ever been to but none the less was worth th $23 I pad for it. Alexis was alright and so were Wade and Dallas but by far the best sets I saw that day were Shane Told of Silversteins Verona Records act The StickUp in the Red Square. This place is in a basement and while your inside you feel at any moment your gonna be gassed in Nazi Germany. Besides that though there was only like 20 people theyre but The StickUp were still amazing and I sugest you check them out. Boys NIght Out were also really good on one of the 2 outdoor stages. Also I checked out a band called Summer Hero who are managed by Goldfinger's Darrin Pfeiffer. These guys played in a place called the Alehouse and what made theyre set even better then the quality music was that most of the people there were guys in there 30's who didnt even know the band and were just getting drunk on great Canadian beer that was there right in the bar. I hope Fucked Up get more popular, that's the kind of music that needs to replace metalsnore! anybody know why Keep It Up is doing a shirt recall from this show? it's called scenefest, enough said. "Confused kids who arent even out of high school yet trying to mosh to KEEP IT UP is a lot better than crybaby elitests who think the show is all about them. good review Did the Mansion House get a new stage? i second that nigga tyler fucks his mom 2.0 But Alexisonfire make generic-as-shit music that's completely representative of the worst of hardcore today. i saw some of these sets. keep it up fucking sucked. their crowd was full of little wannabe hardcore kids that wouldn't know hardcore if it fucked them in the ass. if a real band like sick of it all or AF played in front of them they wouldn't know what to do. oh wait that happened at the comeback kid show and all the so called "hardcore" kids stood at the back not knowing what to do when ignite played. ahh boohoo they didn't have mosh parts. kids these days don't know shit or how to respect their elders. attack in black are quiet because the guitars run through bass amps. also they aren't very good. their demo is classic but their new songs are boring. wish I could have gone but I was alone in that wish and therefore was stuck in TO. Did anyone catch Greg Graffin last night? I'm trying to remember the second encore song to write a review but was kinda drunk, there was Suffer and then? there was a second right? lots of singing along. Another BR song? or anyone know if there is a standard to his encore? And it's just a matter of time before someone signs rad affair, probably Nitro. Fucked Up is getting ridiculously overrated in the last few weeks, seriously. Admitting is the first step towards recovering Adam. sickboi: I actually don't drink that often… at least not to the point where it's newsworthy. The weekend of S.C.E.N.E. was a glaring exception :) Adam, you sure talk about getting drunk a lot. Keep up the good work. Alexisonfire make generic-as-shit music that's completely representative of the worst of hardcore today. I'm so punk that I ended up at the Hillebrant Jazz in the Winery fest this day and was far, far too inebriated to make S.C.E.N.E. afterwards. I really wish I could have caught the Stickup or the Maximum RNR / Million Dollar Marxists set though, that would have been epic. new brunswick, nj > new brunswick, canada The best thing about this fest is that Like You played in an alley. I suck for missing out on that. booo, you missed Like You. i saw some of these sets. keep it up fucking sucked. their crowd was full of little wannabe hardcore kids that wouldn't know hardcore if it fucked them in the ass. if a real band like sick of it all or AF played in front of them they wouldn't know what to do. oh wait that happened at the comeback kid show and all the so called "hardcore" kids stood at the back not knowing what to do when ignite played. ahh boohoo they didn't have mosh parts. kids these days don't know shit or how to respect their elders. the flatliners were kick ass though.. The Sainte Catherines should have played. But Alexisonfire make generic-as-shit music that's completely representative of the worst of hardcore today. I live in St. Catharines now, but I didn't go to this. A bunch of my friends' terrible bands were playing though. |
