| Bollweevils / Blue Meanies [2]live in Chicago2006 live show Review by: red_eye_inc See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on November 14th 2006
Nothing brings out the “hang by the bar” crowd quite like a mid-`90s local phenomenon reunion show. Standing in the back to protect your $5 drink, brittle old bones and Friday night outfit is just fine as long as there’s a younger, more excitable contingent in the crowd to fill up those now un-coveted front spots. The younger set never seem to be at these things, however, and whatever schlock ex-band members took a night off from work to reform for a masturbatory set of classic tunes only manage to capture a fraction of their former glory. If you’re booking the Riot Fest pre-show, I suppose you could actively recruit a bored/boring audience by having a show with bands whose hey-day audience was comprised of 16-year-olds at a 21-and-over bar.

These bands do indeed suck. However, you shouldn't be "aloud" to write anything else for anything ever again. By the time Lone Wolf and Cub was announced, I had tickets to this show already. I wish I had waited, I would rather have gone to Note that night. y'all blew it. Lone Wolf & Cub, Rager, and the Muzzler played across the street at the note that night. Now that was a show worth checking out. Wno needs 1996 when you've got fresh shit at your beckon call? I was there, had a blast and most folks who were up front did as well. The Tossers put on a great set, the crowd was definitely into them. The reviewer should have spent more time focusing on the MUSIC then passing judgment on the mannerisms of the crowd, his interpretations of who should have gotten in and who played when. The Bollweevils set was all energy, I'm not sure what show said reviewer went to because there were a lot of smiles to go around after the show from band members and crowd alike... Why would you do a review that you went in with bad intentions? Personally, and no offense to the kids out there, but the Blue Meanies, Bollweevils and Raygun are much more popular with the 21 crowd than the all ages; plus, it's not like the kids couldn't seem them on that Sunday. We grew up on this music. I personally like that is was at Double Door. It made it feel more specila than having it at the Beat Kitchen or some other shit all ages room like Champs or Stage 83. Thsi was my favorite show of the whole year. It sounds like you didn't want to be there from the start. It was one of the best shows I saw this year. I didn't pay attention to the rets of the crown because I decided tto be up front where the fun way. "Some of them might even have to get home to their wives." I still don't think you can really blame Riot Fest for some things... I can understand why the two pre-shows were 21 because there's not a lot of smaller venue All Ages type places out there in Chicago and the ones that are out there get booked up pretty quickly. How does talking about someone having a wife make me a sexist? I could have said kids or husband or sick mother but since the crowd was mostly men, I thought I'd make a safe assumption. Poorly formed theories about my personality and my ideological fortitude aside, the guy that wrote the other review is right about all that stuff he just posted, he just had a better time than I did. Similar circumstances, different experiences. Well I wrote the "positive" review of this show and I will admit it was unfair that only the 21 crowd got to enjoy these shows. I know Bill would have loved to have gone to both shows but he was under 21 by a few months. "Some of them might even have to get home to their wives." "easily entertained" -- you're a dipshit. i think seeing the bollweevils at all would make this a 5 star review. You sound like you always find the worst in people. I'd hate to hang out around you. I'll admit it, I didn't like Chemicals when I first heard it. I had no idea about Full Throttle or anything about the Meanies, it was one of the first songs I heard from them. The more I heard it the more it grew on me. Expeciall the part right before the verses with the "duh duh duh, duh duh duh, duh duh duh" You know what i'm talking about. God damn your a bitter angry person...I would hate to hang out with you, you seem like a real downer Strong words from all you anonymous posters out there, I never thought this review would garner such hatred. I'm glad you were all so easily entertained. Thanks to the two guys who corrected me, apparently people do like "Chemicals". My mistake. i was @ the show. and i had a pretty good time. and i think everyone there did too. odd review. Agreed w/ bones - chemicals is a good song. Were we at the same show? I saw people lose their shit when the Meanies and Bollweevils played. I think the energy was totally there. And no offense, but, if you're complaining that there was no energy, which you are 100% wrong, then you're fucked in the head. If anything, The Tossers were the snooze fest, bot BM or the Bollweevils. Absolutely no one was into that band. And who cares in BM played before the Bollweevils? So, what, you had to move your fat ass 20 feet from the bat to get a better look? Dumb review. you're a jaded douche. i was at the show and had an awesome time. your review was not insightful or witty -- it was just dumb and poorly written. I like this review. Sounds about as jaded as I get sometimes... Your on Crack!!!..This was one of the best shows in a long time..(PLEASE SEE THE REVIEW THATS WAS POSTED EARLIER IN THE WEEK).
