I can't think of very many bands whose rarities compilation acted as a gateway album for so many young music fans first discovering punk. With MxPx being this band, those raised on diets of Minor Threat, Rancid, Ramones and the like are likely to scoff, but upon its release in 1998, Let It Happen lured in a mini-generation of skatepunks and pop-punk kids alike.

everybody sez MxPx is a cristain punk band. To all you MXPX haters? whats so bad about a christian punk band? your right their newer stuff is slowing down.... Who cares? And for the ones who think their music is all about girls... and realationships do u ever hear a song on the radio that isint? DUH MXPX is good better than anyof those other dumb bands i read about on here.... Simple solution here IF U DONT LIKE EM OR CHRISTIAN MUSIC DONT LISTEN TO IT. i can understand why people would find their shows shitty nowadays: because mxpx is playing shitty music. but it wasnt always like that. they used to be awesome. Swingset Girl is one of my favorite songs of all time. I think they put on a good show and this is a pretty good album. I dont get why people hate these guys so much. They had a couple bad albums but most of their stuff is decent, despite some of the immature lyrics. I'm not judging this album, I was just stating that MxPx was one of the worst bands I've ever seen live. "JerryCola", have you heard this album? it sounds NOTHING like GC or Simple Plan... its really fast skate punk I get that a lot... You're one of the worst bands I've ever seen live. This is one of the worst bands I've ever seen live... Hey everyone, this (the original) was the album I took off my iPod when I found out the band was Christian! You can start saying that I'm "discriminating against Christians" again! to the person below me, listen to their pre-1997 stuff... it does sound like that What do you mean by "skate influenced"? Cus MxPx sounds nothing like a Skate-thrash band. this was good the first time, but yeah, my feelings echo that of the review. pretty unnecessary. life in general did change my life though, so, props and all that. I've always hated mxpx, but this album had some pretty good songs on it. The only decent songs I've ever heard from them. they havent really done anything worthwhile since 1998. maybe if you took the best tracks off all their stuff since then, you might be able to put together a decent compilation, but most of it has just been junk. and that makes me sad. i'd put rancid in the category with mxpx, not the category with minor threat and the ramones Eh, this band never really appealed to me (or at least their recods), considering that when these guys where in their 'peak' they had to compete with NOFX, Pennywise, Satanic Surfers, Lagwagon and Strung Out, who all put out some pretty fucking awesome skate/pop punk records in the late 1990s. As for them being Christians, who really gives a fuck? It doesn't mean that they can write any better (or worse) songs than an Atheist. Mind you, I think that songs for (as opposed to about) God/Jah/Allah/etc... are pointless. haven't bought album as I already have the original. Let it happen, life in general and SGTWOB are mxpx best albums by FAR. Supposedly Mike said the new album is going to have really fast hardcore melodic songs on it. If this is the case I may consider myself a avid mxpx fan again. if not, I will no longer have any faith in the band what so ever didn't these guys do a diet pepsi commercial? this album is useless. the new songs suck and the dvd is shit . really. mxpx old videos ? what a bunch of retarded christians i hate this album years ago and i hate it now. I have to agree with the reviewer, the new songs are way better than anything on Let's Rock. Let it Happen was a great CD, and the new songs are even better, it's definitely worth buying. "Just a question, which sect of christianity are you speaking of?" "Let It Happen lured in a mini-generation of skatepunks and pop-punk kids alike." "fuck this christian shit" Everything gets 3 1/2 stars don't you know that by now. hahahahaha this album deserves more than 3 1/2 stars I'm sure that their album due out next summer on Tooth and Nail is going to blow everything away. I haven't heard this yet, but I still think that Life In General is one of the real treats of mid-90s skate-punk. this record was awesome back in the day, and occasionally still finds its way into rotation. Meh, I can say I've never dug this band. To me they were just a watered-down version of all the pop-punk bands I grew up on: Screeching Weasel, the Queers, etc. Even old Blink 182 and Green Day did it better. I always got the impression that MXPX were trying to appeal to that same mainstream crowd, but no one was buying it. fallingupwards84, I agree, i dont get all the hatred towards mxpx, frankly though, i dont really care either, Im 40 and i still get a kick out of some good pop punk and mxpx does the job just fine-oldpunker- I used to have this album and played the crap out of it. I don't know what happened to it, but I just might have to rebuy it. Chick Magnet video is dope! I've always questioned why so many scrutinize MxPx for writing about a quarter of their songs about girls, when bands like Lifetime (who write nearly all of their songs about relationships) are worshipped on this site. Its a double standard. Fair review. Well done. While I personally don't care for this album, the 90's were an awesome time for punk music. Things were more simple. I'd give anything to go back to those good old days. Is 25 old? nobody under 16 is going to like mxpx. Word to that, guy below. If you're over the age of 16 and still think MxPx is the balls then you haven't been living or just have bad taste. I'm not going to lie. part of the reason both fall out boy and new found glory are so far removed from the sound of mxpx is that they both came fromhardcore backgrounds instead of a skatepunk background. i think there are way more similarities between mxpx and say simple plan or good charlotte The re-release is actually pretty nice. Especially for people who didn't have Let It Happen yet, all the new songs and bonus demos are great. This is a really good cd, i like it even more than Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo, which is the only other MxPx cd I have. Was this release really necessary? |
