In the opening track of All In, Nothington's Jay Northington bellows out "I know exactly where I stand" and I have to say that he's got a point. For a band's freshman release you can't help but be impressed with their mix of punk rock, southern rock 'n' roll and infectious melody that would sound just as at home on No Idea, sandwiched between Gunmoll and Hot Water Music as it does on BYO's roster.

I loved this record on the first listen. Had no idea Tsunami Bomb members were in this band until just now, after reading this review. Which is pretty cool, I was a big fan. "The Last Time" almost made me cry the first time I heard it it's so good. That hasn't happened to me in years. This album kicks ass!! Everytime I put this in the CD player, I just want to pound down some whiskey....especially to "Where I Stand". Can't wait for the next one. Greath album. And the singer has far better voice than leatherface! leatherface tribute albums rule. This album has rocked me harder than anything else I've gotten in 2007. Nothing groundbreaking, and it doesn't need to be. This album isn't doing anything original but I haven't been able to stop listening to them for days now. Considering it could be another 8 years before Social Distortion puts out another record, I don't mind if someone else does the same thing as long as they do it well, and these guys do it pretty well. The Gunmoll reference is apt, too, there's a hint of their brand of punk in Nothington's sound. All in all, worth tracking down. I like this band a lot, when Tsunami Bomb split I was kind of bummed. When the two new bands came out of it: Nothington, and the band that Agent M is in, I really didn't like her new band. But Nothington grabbed me and demanded my attention upon first listen. Great album, this band has a lot more potential too I think. This album is pretty solid. But then again, when I listened to the album (especially track #6) I was feeling kind of beat. Yet I decided to hit the streets... Who knows, maybe I am slowly losing my mind? of all the new stuff this week, this actually sounds pretty decent, almost a social d esk feel, at least in some parts-oldpunker- This is the album I keep wishing Lucero would write. Ahh the perks of AP hehe cheers Scott! BYO is one of my favourite labels, this helps support that feeling. I bought this and listened to it twice. The songs never say anything new or interesting and the music is predictable. I'm thinking about throwing it away as an act of defiance. This is a good album. It is produced by Scott Llamas (Facing New York, Love Equals Death, Tragedy Andy) who is an awesome producer. Check it out. He also produced my band Two Left Feet's two cds... woah shit! , this album is fuckin rockin. "So what ex Tsunami Bomb member(s) are in this band?" Release is solid as hell. I enjoyed it. Sure its nothing incredible or groundbreaking but I think its a solid first release from a band that has a great future. As much as I like this release it makes me look forward to what this band can become in the future, if that makes sense? So what ex Tsunami Bomb member(s) are in this band? what sort of surprises are in this re-quilted blankie you speak of? Maybe I'm being too picky but the label "one trick pony" shouldn't apply to a band that can juxtapose songs like "Death of Jim Green" and "Where is this going" and do so seamlessly. And really, for a guy who put The Draft in his top 20, this is at least as versatile as that. Ah, it's "Going Home," not "Coming Home." My bad. Four stars is a bit gracious for a one-trick pony, but there's some solid tunes on here for sure, especially that "Coming Home" song (I think that's the title; it's the first one M sings on the record). Whoa, did I fuck up on that last comment... I meant: Being a big fan of both Hot Water Music and Leatherface I had to check this out, pronto. I was not disapointed whatsoever, they album is extremely fluent and none of the songs are a let down. Well done Nothington, I'm always ashamed that I thought these guys wouldn't match Tsunami Bomb. I tried to order this today, unfortunately my computer doesn't like BYO or No Idea's shopping cart feature. Good review. I'll have to give this a listen. |
