Comparisons are easy to make. It's easy to say, "This band totally sounds like this other band!" It's the crutch of the reviewer. It's a cop-out, it's an easy way to shill out 250 words when 75 of them are "they're like a cross between David Bowie and Martha Stewart mixed with the Shins and Hank Williams but only if James Mercer and Hank were having a baseball home run contest with Ron Artest and Frodo from the Lord of the Rings." Which is why I'll restrain myself from saying that the Brokedowns sound like Dillinger Four.

The Brokedowns new CD "New Brains For Everyone" coming May 8th on THICK. It baffles me that a band called "Brokedown" doesn't have any breakdowns in their music. My band played with these guys last year in west Virginia, they were incredible live and fucking hilarious.I think the multiple singers thing is really the only "d4ish" thing about them. agreed 100% with the review. its a good record speaking of D4...they better be fucking recording soon! I remember seeing these guys play at the Warehouse in La Crosse, WI a bunch of years ago for a Big Action Records show. Actually, I think that was back when Big Action just started. I remember when the Big Action guys used to play in a ska band aptly named The Skamish. Memories... I used to work with one of these dudes, and they're the nicest guys in the world. I'm glad they got a deal with Thick. Besides, with the noteable abscence of D4 in recent years it's nice to hear something new from a band of the same ilk. as a person from the chicago burbs, i love this band. people from the chicago burbs tend to praise this band, but I just don't like it...this album not an exception. I like these guys. The D4 worship is cool. The one time I saw them a few years ago, two of the guys in the band were wearing D4 shirts. |
