If any genre of punk-related music can bring out the best, and the worst in its bands, ska is right up there. For a style that has so much talent, diversity and overall cultural influence, it seems a stagnant progression in the "third wave" left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Sure, the music was fun, but people grow up, and honestly, the same riffs and horns get tired and worn.

I'm really glad big d came through with such a sick album, I was psyched to hear them mix up their style with some more chill songs '07's albums of the year, at least top 5 gerat cd ska all the way This CD is great, though I wouldn't call "Steady Riot" a "rock" song. Ska all the way. shit son a lot of you seem to hate this album.. y'all on some of that cheap american crack or something?? simply put this album is fucking great.. pretty damn chilled out dub music and fun ska songs.. what else do u want from a ska band?? the songs dont suck only the haters suck so go jerk off to your jawbreaker albums This is good overall. I wish it was a bit more punkish and less reggae stuff but well doen and varried. I can't stop listening to Shining on. This album reminds me of the berlin project's Culture Clash. If anyone can remember that album. And look what happened there. Next album those fags were EMO. i dig the experemental stuff, its rad. good album, however, doesnt quite top good luck or any of the old sca-core psyco ska stuff. That shit was amazing. This album is fucking horrible. I don't get their popularity- all their other albums are crap as well. The singer is horrible, the horns unimaginative, and the songs are just not creative. Yea, look who was quoted. Big D is nowhere near such artistic worth to be able to "steal" any ideas. Good artists copy. Ok, I liked How it Goes. It had some really good songs, but the lyrics were usually not very good and neither were the vocals. This album is superb though. Well worth a puchase. Mr. Anonymous, it's just an opinion you freaking moron. AndrewKauervane, bro... sorry, but you're a dummy and an embarassment to yourself. I know this because you: As a big ska fan i have never been much of a big d fan for some reason. maybe it's the talky vocals, dunno. but this cd is GREAT. could be the cd that saves ska. i didnt read the review. i listened to timebomb and big d's ripoff side to side. hmm...yea...sorry...bigd was out of ideas...the kids wont know!! From the recent posts I've read, most of you are musically inept idiots who only want to harshly review something because it is different than the bands previous attempts. Strictly Rude will seriously go down as one of the best albums of all time, possibly even the best album of 2007. Each song is designed for feel, and aren't made for the douchebags that just like ska so they can mosh the shit out of someone at a show. Every single song has thought provoking lyrics, touching melodies, and vocals that literally stomp out all other efforts by David McWane. The only track I have a problem with on this album is Hell On Earth. The song is lyrically sound, but musically it leaves alot to be desired. To me it just sounds like another L.A.X (One of the worst Big D songs out there.) Also, how the fuck does Steady Riot sound "exactly" like Time Bomb? The only reason you think that is because Rancid was MENTIONED in the official review of the album. Stop being idiots, and find some REAL music taste. there is no way in hell the big d didnt know that steady riot sounds exactly like time bomb. i mean..sure bands use the same chord progressions all the time...but even the guitar strokes..the rythm...everything up to the chorus...what fucking losers. this band is lame. to those of you comparing this shit to Losing Streak and Destruction By Definition, you're nuts to those of you comparing this shit to Losing Streak and Destruction By Definition, you're nuts havent heard much of the cd, but saw them live. strictly rude(song and album) is amazing. Yeah, and Time bomb is just like Little Bitch. wow, Steady Riot does sound identical to Time Bomb... its the fucking album of the year. the only reason i havent scored this Cd is because i havent heard the entire thing yet, but that will come next week along with my check. and i hate to break it to ALL the people who say that this band sucks but Big D and Streetlight ARE THE BEST SKA BANDS out right now. Now hailing from the south shore of mass, im a pretty big fan of big D, but they'll never be the bosstones. still, from what ive heard- awsome The only people who seriously like this album are shitty high schoolers who think Streetlight Manifesto is ska. This review sucks almost as bad as the album. lammi 5/5 ( the best ska album ever IMO) Wow great cd... the song Steady Riot is the best song they've ever written "It's a great ska CD, but not a great Big D CD. I like my Big D to be fast and energetic." This album is fucking incredible. Right up there with Westbound Train, The Slackers, and The Aggrolites as far as current ska bands go. I'm pretty sure I just don't like ska. How could all these people be stoked about a song that repeats "noise complaint" the whole time I've always hated Big D's singer because of his talk-sing style, so I never really got into them. However, after hearing the preview of the Big D/Brain Failure split, and based on this review, I'm going to give this album a chance. This shit is hot no doubt. "i used love big d so much. but i am am sorry. boring. their live show has taken a hit as well. zero energy. all costumes." This album has rekindled my love for ska. As a result, I've dug out all my old ska albums and I'm going to spend the entire day listening to a genre I had nearly written off for good. I guess what I'm saying is, "Thanks Big D and the Kids Table!" this sounds really promising. at least all the fuckwanks can stop asking for the review to be posted. Best ska record I've heard in years and years. Crucial listening, for real. cant wait to see them open for the bosstones in the fall! an absolutley awesome album... i only wish it was warm already so i could really enjoy this the way it's meant to be enjoyed. It's a great ska CD, but not a great Big D CD. I like my Big D to be fast and energetic. Good CD, songs were suprisingly fun live... don't like "Breaking the Bottle", though.... that song bites pretty sweet if this is what your into... I haven't touched any ska/punk in years yet coming back to this site got me to check out a few reviews. This sounded a bit interesting so I checked out some songs... not disappointed. I've only heard "noise complaint", "snakebite" and "shining on". Snakebite has to be my favourite by a landslide. Cool tune. Thanks guys. This album is fan-fuckin'-tastic. I'm betting this'll be my album of 2007. The only song that never really got me was Relocate The Beat, and even that's an alright song. Seriously, there's nothing bad on this album, and its perfection *almost* all the way through. i just think the title is hilarious. this score is for the title. I still have to pick this up, but when I had a downloaded copy, I fell in love with the last track on it. this is one of the worst albums i've heard all year if you don't like 'shining on' you're an asshole. if "Shining On" doesn't put you in a good mood then you don't want to be in a good mood! the first 4 songs are incredible as that guy below said "Hell On Earth" is Big D trying to be NOFX. It's a good song, but the lyrics and even the music sound like NOFX. Worst album from these guys. Still fucking amazing. Slow songs definitely bring it down. I can't get enough of the first four songs. Simply incredible album, and easily the best thing these guys have ever done. Yes, even better than Checklist. i just may pick this up today. ive been lazy, i haven't even gotten the brain failure split yet If this record was a gun. Rudie Can't Sing. and is it just me, or does the music/vocal pattern for the verse of 'try out your voice' sound a lot like 'white man (in hammersmith palais)'? this is damn near perfect IMO...this is the album i've been waiting for Big D to make..always knew they could pull off this sound and do it well after about 5 listens it hit me. this shit is almost, almost as good as 'losing streak' , 'destruction by definition', or any bosstones album and has a little bit of flavor of all 3 of those bands , particuarly the suicide machines (and a dash of jesse michaels vocal stylings) but really they're doing something altogether original within the familiar context of third wave ska. but the dabblings into two tone and ska punk and street punk and dub make it seem much more broad and varied than say...reel big fish. Wonderful, wonderful record. I disagree no face, what makes this record work is that it sounds unforced in every way, very flowing and I cannot say enough about the use of horns, very well done, gets better with each listen-oldpunker- this record really disappointed me she knows her way is the current favorite for song of the year Haven't heard this yet, but the only ska band I really can listen to over and over again is tokyo ska paradise orchestra... best ska album of all time?, hardly. Traditional ska?, not even close. Fun as shite to listen to? hell yeah. -oldpunker- I skanked to them at age 16, I listen to them at age 21 and wonder why I liked them. I remember their energy and some good songs, but overall its dull. I do see why people like them though and if they want to keep on playing ska then so be it. At least they do what they like. sweet record. I definitely need to give this another spin. I listened to it once when I first got the CD but wasn't captured by it, and it was quickly forgotten. Maybe I'll bust it out tomorrow. This album confirms that Big D is the best current ska-punk band in the world. i need to get this... The only Big D record which I truly love. Great, fun album. Can't wait to hear them play this stuff live. i used love big d so much. but i am am sorry. boring. their live show has taken a hit as well. zero energy. all costumes. I swear I read the actual review before asking. I SWEAR! Bill- Alright, so how long is this thing? I can't take another 70 minute album. i really really really don't get it the only "pussies" are the anonymous pieces of shit like you who drag everything you can through the mud with no credible backup. Best ska album I've heard in a long time. Love it. Easily one of the absolute worst albums I have ever listened to. Stop worrying about your image. This is such a fun album! I've been telling people for months and months that this would be Big D's massive hit record. Maybe it won't be as far as sales, but I think it definitely is as far as sound/style/production. Going back to Shot By Lammi, it's amazing to see the growth. Best ska record in a very long time. Hopefully Mad Caddies' new one is equally good. Maybe I need to listen to this album again, I skimmed through the album and absolutely NOTHING grabbed me. Not like throwing on The Gypsie Hill EP where every fucking song rules. This is the best thing this band has ever done. I didn't include this in my review, but I love the production on this record. Though the vocals are a little too clean, the layering of the instruments is so awesome. I was driving on my lunch break today listening to this, and I can't recall which track it was, but during a bridge the sound from the toms just bounced into my left ear from nowhere. Killer album. So fucking good. This gets an 8 even just for "Steady Riot," "Noise Complaint," "Souped-Up Vinyl," "Strictly Rude," and "Relocate the Beat." |
